Our Lenten readings focus on the Law of God and on Gods knowledge of what we do. We are given the right path to follow. However, there are times when we make our own path and things dont work out. The right path that we are to follow leads to eternal life. The Book of Exodus speaks about how God brought the law to the Hebrew people. Moses was given two stone tablets upon which God has written a plan for life, Loving God and Loving our neighbor, by paying respect to both in all we do and say. The 10 commandments was given by God to the Israelites as a means to free them from the past and provide a path for the future. The Israelites knew the proper way, but did not always follow it. We ourselves, are given the proper way and do not follow it as well. Jesus shows the proper path in the gospel. He remons the buyers and sellers from the temple, showing people what God wanted. The temple was to be a house of prayer and not a marketplace. Lent is the perfect time to see where we stand in our relationship with God. We know the law - we know what is right and we know what we should do. However temptation leads us to wander off the right path, to go astray. Often today, the world may see Gods law as foolish and possibly not applicable in the world of today. Let us look at the path that we take in life, let us take the path that leads to eternal life.

Our Lenten Journey continues. Our Lenten readings focus on the Law of God and on God’s knowledge of what we do. We are given the right path to follow. Mass Intentions

March 3 5:00pm†Ron Hensinger (Irene Parris) March 4 8:30am St. Theresa Parishioners

The Knights of Columbus is committed to ending hunger in our local communities and “40 Cans for Lent” is an initiative to provide Food for Families.

Through this program, Knights of Columbus members and parishioners are encouraged to contribute one can of non-perishable food per day for the duration of Lent. Running a “40 Cans for Lent” program connects traditional Lenten alms-giving with meeting the nutritional needs of poor families in our local community. It is also a good reminder for parishioners to continue their donations beyond the Christmas holiday season and to make a difference in the fight against hunger. Contributions may be placed in a box located in the church foyer. Your generosity and thoughtfulness will make a positive difference. God Bless one and all, Corky Valentine

Bishop Strickland’s Statement on the Right to Life The protection of human life, from the moment of conception to natural death, is an issue of primary importance in the United States, and the State of Texas. Every adult Catholic should vig-orously defend life, both in the public square and in the voting booth. All persons who are committed to the protection of life should unify around the teaching of the Catholic Church, beauti-fully taught by Saint John Paul II in his encyclical, Evangelium Vitae: Laws which legitimize the direct killing of innocent human be-ings through abortion or euthanasia are in complete opposition to the inviolable right to life proper to every individual; they thus deny the equality of everyone before the law. Pope John Paul II, Evangelium vitae, no. 72. Likewise, the Catechism of the Catholic Church says: 2270 Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life. 2271 Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law. The message of these documents is that Catholics respect life. We protect it. We cherish it. We work through the political process to obtain laws which protect life and respect the dignity of the human person. I am saddened to hear that some sensational stories are circulat-ing this week about the Catholic Church changing the teaching on life. As the Catechism says, this is impossible. The teaching comes to us from the very beginning of the Church and merely affirms God’s commandment that “You shall not kill.” Let us not be troubled, but rather, let us stand firm in our com-mitment to the teaching of Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church: THE GOSPEL OF LIFE is at the heart of Jesus’ message. Lov-ingly received day after day by the Church, it is to be preached with dauntless fidelity as “good news” to the people of every age and culture. Pope John Paul II, Evangelium vitae, no. 1 -Bishop Joseph E. Strickland

If you would like to be considered by Fr. Mark to serve (2 years) on the Parish Council or Finance

Council, please sign the volunteer list in the lobby. Thank you
