PARENTS CORNER

DON’T MISS OUT - SVDP Spirit Wear E-Store OPENS THIS MONDAY Our e-store will be OPEN from June 3rd to July 31st: https://varsitycanada.com/schools/svdp/

We know that parents often do uniform shopping over the summer to get ready for the start of school. The timing of this e -store means

that orders will be delivered the first week back to school in September.

Reasons to buy SVDP Spirit Wear?

1. It’s all navy and white and so your children can wear it as their school uniform.

2. Why should our kids have all the fun – the whole family can get their own cool SVDP gear. 3. 10% of funds go back to our children to be used for learning enrichment and experiential opportunities, technology, and

classroom and gym resources.

*NEW* Items - 1. We heard from parents that they would like some items with “SVDP” as well as “WOLVES”, so the e-store has both. A big

thank-you to Shane Madden, SVDP school parent, for his great work on the SVDP logo.

2. We also have women’s fit tops this time round. No more boxy tops for mom!

SAVE THE DATE: The Annual SVDP Family Potluck BBQ is ONLY 2 Weeks Away!

Thanks to Mary Walsh and her team of CSPC parents that are organizing this for our community!

WHEN: Thursday, 13 June, 5pm to 7:30pm

WHERE: High Park – by the Jamie Bell Adventure Playground

BEING SERVED by CSPC Parents: Meat and Veggie hotdogs

WHAT TO BRING for the POTLUCK: A salad, snack or dessert to share! HELP STILL NEEDED: We are in need of more parents to help with preparations on the day at the school

and at High Park between 2pm to 5pm, and will need parents to help at the event and with clean-up. Please

email [email protected] if you can lend a hand.

June 12th, 7pm – All are Welcome to Our Final CSPC (Parent Council) Meeting

The big items on the agenda:

- A review of a draft plan for 2019 – 2020 of CSPC-organized community events and fundraising.

- Ms diManno will outline the SVDP School Block Budget and her asks of the parent community to

support our children.

A summary of all 2018 – 2019 investments made to our classrooms and children, thanks to the generosity of SVDP school parents, will be sent out after the June meeting.

SCHOOL NEWS

Parent Engagement Many thanks to all parents and students who came to our Parent Engagement Workshop on Growth Mindset. The workshop taught us how to deal with stress in a positive manner, helping kids learn how to identify stress. The goal was to help parents and their children learn how to return to a teachable state when anxiety rises a step towards learning how to self-regulate. It was exciting to see how we all applied this learning to balloon twisting as a family.

Communion Breakfast A sincere thank you to our CSPC and parent volunteers whom provided a wonderful breakfast for students who receive the grace of the Holy Spirit in their First Holy Communion. Home, School and Parish connections are valuable. Thanks to our parent volunteers and Father Dan.

School Year Calendar for 2019-2020 https://www.tcdsb.org/calendar/pages/schoolyearcalendar.aspx

Want instant alerts about your child’s absence? Sign Up for School Messenger To enhance our existing absence-checking procedure we introduced a new student absence reporting system called

SafeArrival making it easier for you and staff to verify student attendance. With SafeArrival, you are asked to report your child’s absence in advance using any of these 3 convenient methods:

1. Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the

Google Play Store (or from the links at https://go.schoolmessenger.com). The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.

2. Use the SafeArrival website, https://go.schoolmessenger.com. The first time you use the website, select

Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence. 3. Call the toll-free number 1 (833) 251-3286 to report an absence using the automated phone system.

These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time up to a maximum of 10 consecutive days. It is important to note that when setting up your account, you must register using

the email address and phone number associated with your child’s Trillium account. In addition, schools will use the

SchoolMessenger Communicate automated notification system to contact parents whose child is absent when the absence was not reported in advance.

Get Updates on School Bus Service Register for the Toronto Student Transportation Group Parent Portal to receive real time notifications about school bus cancellations or delays. The parent portal will be updated and re-open in mid-August for sign up.
