RE Program 2020-2021 Given the uncertainty about the status of public gatherings and school due to COVID-19, we have decided to resume religious education classes through an online program entitled “My Catholic Faith Delivered.”

This program uses the Faith and Life textbook series and follows our usual curriculum. The primary reasons why we elected to go online (at least initially) include our desire to protect the health of your children and volunteers, and the various changes that would be required due to social distancing requirements that involve drop off/pick up changes, the need for medical screening for students and catechists, masking requirements and other considerations. We hope to transition to a classroom environment as soon as practicable, but we will begin the academic year using the online pro-gram.

Classes will begin on September 13.

Registration for all families for the 2020-2021 school year is now open and will CLOSE on Mon., August 31, 2020.

Confirmation 2 students should verify with the RE office prior to registering that all confirmation requirements have been completed.

All registrations can be done through the Religious Education office or by going on the website to obtain a printable form. Go to swoycc.org/Faith Tab. The registration process can be done via coming into the RE office during normal business hours, email/phone credit card payment, or by mail. Please do not send cash. Checks should be made out to St. William of York.

2020-2021 Registration fees are as follows: RE Office Hours:

1 student - $80.00 Monday – Friday; 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM 2 students - $145.00 Phone: 540-659-5705 3 or more students - $200.00.

God Bless each of you and your loved ones, especially during these trying times. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Each student will be placed in a class under the direction of a catechist, who will interact online with you and your children during the period of online instruction. Parents will have to take the time to assist their children in the completion of assigned work. This is something that most of you already do, but is of course paramount importance when instruction is conducted online. Our hope is to resume Sunday classes as soon as practicable. We will begin transitioning classes from online to in person classroom instruction as the year progresses.

Saturday, August 15th is the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. While still a Holy Day, because this solem-nity falls on a Saturday, the obligation is dismissed. However, Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 15th at 9:00 AM for the Assumption of the Blessed Vir-gin Mary.

First Friday Adoration Friday, August 7th we will have First Friday Adoration. Eucharistic Adoration will begin after the 9:00 AM Mass and will end at 5:00 PM to prepare for the Confirmation Mass. Please join our parish community every First Fri-day as we adore Our Lord on the altar. For more infor-mation or to sign up please contact Cindy Armstrong at (540) 220-7344 and remember the same rules apply in regards to social distancing, face masks and hand sanitiz-ing when entering the church.

Pew and Kneeler Cleaning After every Mass all pews and kneelers must be sani-tized. Until now, our ushers and some very kind parish-ioners have been doing all the work to prepare for the next Mass. We are asking all parishioners to aid them by picking up a bottle of cleaner and a towel for cleaning on your way into church so that each of us can clean our own pew and kneeler. Please leave the towel on the pew so that the ushers know that it has been cleaned and ready for the next Mass. Thank you for helping to create a safe environment for us to attend Mass.

Novena for Life Rosary Come all and join the Knights of Columbus in praying a Novena for Life Rosary beginning on August 9th in the church at 5:00 PM. Remaining prayers will occur weekly on Sunday evenings at 5:00 PM through Oct. 4.

Ushers Needed The Usher Ministry would like to extend an invitation to interested parishioners. New ushers are needed for all Masses, Volunteers are placed on flexible schedules and serve with a crew of experienced ushers. This is one of the easiest ways to get involved at St. William of York! For more information please contact Alison Truslow at (540) 779-3012 or [email protected]. Prayer Request… Please keep everyone who is serving in Iraq and Afghan-istan and their family members in your prayers.

Michael Harrison, Jason Locke, Orlando Medina, Patrick Mooney II, Andrew Rodriguez, Andrew Sines, Jonathan Sines, Josh Taylor and Carey Tignor.

If you have a relative serving in Iraq or Afghanistan and would like to have his/her name included in our prayer list, please contact the parish office.

Please join the Knights of Columbus in the St. William of York parish cen-ter after all morning Masses on August 9th, to enjoy some fresh donuts and assorted refreshments. When you sign up for the Sunday Mass, please in-dicate on the additional slots if you are planning to come. We are ensuring all COVID19 protocols like face masks, social distancing and hand saniti-zations as is practiced at the Church will be practice in the center. All pro-ceeds go to support the church and charities.

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading: Isaiah 55:1‑3 With great enthusiasm and fervor, God urges his people to come to him and to accept the gifts he extends to them. Second Reading: Romans 8:35, 37‑39 In words that are both stirring and courageous, Paul ex-claims that nothing will separate him and his followers from the love of Christ‑‑neither trial‑‑nor persecu-tion‑‑nor death. Gospel: Matthew 14:13‑21 Matthew gives us a straightforward and convincing ac-count of the miracle of the loaves and fishes. Because the crowds following Jesus were hungry, he took five loaves and two fish, blessed them, and gave them to the crowds. Although the people numbered about five thou-sand, there was still food remaining. ©1999 Bon Venture Services, Inc.
