To the Parish Family of Saint John’s,

With a joyful and grateful heart, I wish to share with you some great news! Archbishop Pérez has announced that parishes of the Arch-diocese of Philadelphia will be able to resume public Masses the weekend of June 6 and 7. On behalf of myself and the Deacons, we look forward to welcoming you back! Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus as we make our way back to the in person celebration of the Mass.

While our county remains in the Yellow Phase of statewide reopening, all of us need to do our part to make sure that our return to Mass is a peaceful and safe experience for all. Please take the time to read the instructions below. We ask everyone to follow these guidelines when attending Mass during this period:

GENERAL POINTS

• The obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation continues to be lifted during the Yellow Phase. You are not required to attend Mass at this time.

• Please stay home if you are sick.• Please stay home if you are at higher risk of severe illness with COVID19. If you are uncertain about your risk status, please consult

your doctor.• Mass will continue to be available as it has throughout the pandemic. Daily and Sunday Mass will be posted on our website and

Facebook page.

MASS SCHEDULE

• The regular Mass schedule will resume with the 4:00 PM Saturday Vigil, 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM on Sunday.

• Since state regulations for the Yellow Phase allows for only 50 percent capacity of our church to be utilized (450people), any over-flow of parishioners would be directed to the Chapel.

BEFORE COMING TO MASS

• Please wash your hands for 20 seconds using soap and water.• Before entering the Church, please put on a face mask or cloth covering. Exceptions to this are “children younger than 2 years old,

anyone who has trouble breathing or is unconscious, and anyone who is incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the cloth face covering without assistance” (CDC Guidelines).

• Missalettes will not be in the pews during this period. You are welcome to bring your own missal/readings with you.

ENTERING THE CHURCH AND SEATING

• Hand sanitizers will be available at the Church entrances. Please use the hand sanitizer upon entering and exiting the Church. Please consider bringing your own small hand sanitizer.

• There will be Collection baskets at the entrances of the church for your convenience to drop off your weekly donation. NO collec-tion will be taken up during the Mass.

• Once you have entered, you will be guided by an usher or greeter to your seat, where social distancing will be required. Seating will start in the pews closest to the altar, and by direction of the ushers, proceed to the back of the church, until the church has reached capacity.

• Seating will be designed for every third pew. Members of families or same households may sit together. Please place 6 feet between your household and members of a different household.

• Missalettes will be removed, and you are encouraged to bring your own Missal reading with you, or access the Mass and readings using your own electronic device.

Upon the conclusion of Daily Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sac-rament will occur and the Church will remain open. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin in the Main Church at 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Saturdays, and 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday. Please note: there will be NO Benediction at the conclusion of Exposition but a simple Repose of the Blessed Sacrament.

MASS AND THE RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION

• There will be an organist and cantor to lead us in song.

• There will be no Sign of Peace during Mass during the Yellow Phase.

• The Precious Blood will not be distributed during Mass during the Yellow Phase.

• There should be no holding of hands during the Our Father.

• Please maintain social distancing in the Communion line. Please keep several pews between yourself and the person in front of you while in line and when returning to your pew.

• During the Yellow Phase, the faithful are asked to receive Holy Communion in the hand. There will be FOUR Communion stations across the front. N.B. Father Will will distribute ONLY to those who wish to continue receiving Holy Communion on the tongue.

• Please remove your mask before receiving Holy Communion.

EXITING THE CHURCH

• At the conclusion of Mass, please exit the Church and take a bulletin with you. Bulletins and any additional flyers will be available on tables in the vestibule.

• Please leave your mask on until you exit the Church.

• You are asked to avoid congregating in small groups in church, either before or after Mass. Kindly proceed directly to your ve-hicles.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU

Saint John’s will follow the guidelines from the CDC for sanitation as we resume public Masses.

A NOTE FROM FR. WILL

As you can see, here at St. John’s we are taking seriously your safety, as well as our own. I know so well how much you,our parishio-ners, have been yearning for the return to the reception of Our Lord in the Eucharist. May this reunionbetween you and Jesus be a holy, profound and at the same time, a safe experience.

As a postscript, weekday Masses will resume again on Monday, June 8th and will be celebrated at 8:00 AM in the main church. This space allows for the required social distancing.

Our St. John’s Loving Hands having been lovingly making masks for frontliners. In order to continue their efforts, they need 1/4 inch elastic, cotton material, and thread. These items can be left in the St. Gianna Room at Church for them to pick up.There is also yarn in a basket in the St. Gianna Room that is avail-able for any knitter or crocheter to pick up. Even though it is spring, children will need hats and gloves to wear next winter and now is the time to start making them! Any finished products can be left in the St. Gianna Room.

Social Concerns will continue to provide meals in June. Currently vol-unteers are preparing meals in their homes and bringing them to the church parking lot to be picked up. This is most probably the format that will be followed for June 26th. If interested in preparing 5 to 10 meals in your home to donate for that date, please contact Diane Coyle ([email protected]). Donations of $5.00 WAWA gift cards can also be left at the Parish offices.Your efforts are appreciated by many!

Congratulations to all our parishioners who are graduating in the days to come. We applaud you for a job well done!

“A catechist is a person of faith, hope and love attached to arms and legs with aches, and pains, family duties and not enough time. A catechist is an ordinary person who is extraordinary because he or she teaches as Jesus did. A catechist is faithful to the past, open to the future, but especially dedicated to deepening the faith of the present generation.” A catechist at St. John the Evangelist is one who follows the guidelines as set forth by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia adding their creativity, their faith experiences and their loving personality to each lesson.

Our dedicated catechists number about 25. The classes are being generated during our registration drive. Each catechist is willing to make the effort to plan and present the Archdiocesan curriculum appropriate for each grade level. We presently have a need for a few catechists or volunteers or PREP substitutes. Two of our catechists are moving and one is heading back to school. This is the first time in 11 years that a plea for catechists is being made. If you feel that your talents can be shared with the students while spreading the Good News o the Gospel, then the PREP family welcomes you. Just give me a call or reach me by email, please.
