She decided that she should use this time to be as available as possible for him, enjoying having worked with us, of course. Diane Agbenyo had that little extra and is our newly-hired ad- ministrative assistant. She adds abilities to market the church more extensively on social media and to work with new treasurer-elect, Clark Seipt. Diane’s office hours are 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Custodian/Sexton

We have had a season of changes in the staff over the last two months. Melissa Kramer Karr had an epipha-ny on January 6th and decid-ed that it was time to pursue a more heartfelt vocation – caring for senior adults. The Trustees, the Neighborhood Learning Center (NLC), and I are grateful for the fine job that she did (as well as with George Macdonald who was her partner in 2016). With the position open, the Trus-tees decided to contract with Clean Method. They have assigned Mr. Hilton Morgan to be our regular custodian. He had cleaned at Clarke County High School before working for us and has no-ticed that Laurie Barbagallo, Math Teacher extraordinaire, is the spouse of Trustee chair, Mike Barbagallo. He is off to a good start.

Church Administrative Assistant

Next Carolyn Comras broke the news that she foresaw that her son had only four more years at home before being college bound. She decided that she should use this time to be as available as possible for him, enjoying having worked with us, of course. Carolyn has been a wonderful administrative assistant: efficient, friendly,

professional, and competent. We will miss her. Several applied for the position and five were interviewed. Diane Agbenyo had that little extra and is our newly-hired ad-ministrative assistant. NLC Director Marcie Peter-son has also left as you also likely know from an email sent out from the church of-fice. This is sad news be-cause Marcie had such mean-ingful ties with so many. Our Neighborhood Learning Cen-ter is a fabulous success. Marcie gets a lion’s share of credit for the growth and success of the Neighborhood Learning Center. Lent begins on Wednesday, March 1st, with our observance of Ash Wednesday. The church sets aside 40 days (minus Sundays, which are mini-Easters) to prepare for the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. The colors of the church turn purple. The mood is petulant. Our focus is often inwards, and for the past cou-ple of years with our Lenten studies, we walked with Jesus along The Way and creeped along with him in his last 24 Hours that Changed the World.

This year for Lent we will fo-cus on the beloved community around Jesus. We will see Jesus’ life, ministry, passion, death and resurrection through the eyes of friends. How did Mary his mother see him? How did Peter take Jesus’ re-buke when he questioned Je-sus’ announcement that he was to die? How did the Samaritan woman feel after Jesus left her village, but never seemed to really leave her? How did Pontius Pilate encounter Jesus? Did Pilate question what he

was doing? How did Mary Magdalene raise her down-trodden eyes focused on the path so that she could see Je-sus alive?

Our weekend worship, small group experiences and daily devotionals will have us ex-ploring the beloved communi-ty around Jesus from multiple angles. Worship will lead us through the Gospel of John, discovering and excavating the following stories: Jesus, Mother and the Wedding at Cana; Nicodemus, the Samari-tan woman, the man born blind, Lazarus, the disciples at Jesus’ farewell, and Mary Magdalene on Easter morning.

Are you interested in playing recorder in a group, just for fun? Ibby Dickson and Janet Locklear are hoping to gather interested players to make music together. This group is not geared to performances, we just want to have some fun and make a joyful noise. All levels are welcome. Even if you don't still have your recorder, please join us - we'll surely have an extra recorder or two sitting around! If you're interested, contact Ibby ([email protected]) or Janet ([email protected]).
