A moment in our lives, forever in our hearts.

SHRINE OF THELITTLE FLOWER

Named in honor of Saint Thérèsede Lisieux (who was also known asthe Little Flower), the church wasfirst built in 1926 in a largelyProtestant area. The original woodstructure was destroyed by a fireMarch 17, 1936. Construction of thenew building started in 1931 andended in 1936. Its completion wasspurred by the destruction of theold structure and it employed largeamounts of copper and stone toexecute the designs of architectHenry J. McGill.

Pope Francis designated theShrine a minor basilica January 31,2015. During a recent outing,residents were captivated by thetalent, charm and tremendous faithof Saint Thérèse de Lisieux and themagnificent statues and decor ofthis historic church. Candles werelit to remember beloved residentswho have passed on recently.

St. Sabbas Orthodox Monastery,located in Harper Woods, Michigan,is a monastery of the RussianOrthodox Church.

The monastery is surrounded bybeautiful gardens, fountains, andmosaic shrines, very much in thestyle of the ancient monasteries ofJerusalem, Macedonia, Bulgaria,Greece, Serbia, Russia, Ukraine,Poland, and Romania.

The Royal Eagle Restaurant is themain financial support for themonastery. An outing is planned atthe restaurant and to stroll thebeautiful gardens on Thursday,September 1st. Sign up to reserve aseat on the bus!
