Summary of Key achievements

• Targets to reduce business mileage and paper use have been achieved whilst the number of relocation cases handled has increased.

• Client and employee numbers and Group turnover has increased each year with operating profit breaking £1 million in 2009.

• In March 2010 HCR launched their Sustainable Relocation promise in conjunction with eForest - planting a tree on behalf of clients for every corporate relocations handled.

Social Achievements

• Support employees with external commitments allowing part-time, term-time and home working flexibility.

• Staff can use computer/printing facilities for personal use during lunchtimes and after work.

• Bi-annual health screening is provided and annual PDR’s assess staff training & development needs.

• HCR participate in the Government Childcare Voucher Scheme and the Basingstoke Perk Card scheme; providing staff with discounts from participating local shops and services.

• A staff suggestion scheme implemented through the monthly newsletter can suggest social events along with business improvements.

• HCR participated in the Basingstoke Mayor bowling charity challenge after a staff suggestion.

• HCR actively promote and support local events e.g. sponsoring music at the annual ‘Basingstoke-Place to be Proud Of’ Awards and supporting the Basingstoke Bisons ice hockey team.

The Problem

• A home Search involving three visits with a distance of 200 miles between home and host city would leave a carbon footprint of 410kg – the same amount of emissions produced by two months worth of electricity by a UK family of four. (The lower you’re Carbon Footprint, the smaller your contribution to Climate Change.)

• Air travel as result of international relocations are also one of the major producers of carbon emissions:

Flight from London Heathrow to Telluride Texas for four passengers travelling 4869 miles would create 4.45 tons of carbon emissions.

Mumbai, India to London Gatwick – London Gatwick for 2 people travelling 4468 miles would produce 2.02 tons of carbon.

From Manchester international airport to Hong Kong international airport for three travelling 5985 miles, would create 4.21 tons of CO2.

Reducing Property Advisor’s Mileage

Since introduction of ISO14001 HCR have reduced the Property Adviser average mileage per case by 4 miles a total saving of over 35000 miles per annum.

Recycling

• Reducing the amount of waste paper bins • HCR takes an active approach to paper recycling.

Saving 78,000 sheets from 2008/9–2009/10 (Average 98 sheets/case).

• In 2007, our supplier advised that HCR had recycled the equivalent of 97 trees.

• recycling all cans, plastic bottles, batteries and all paper• we are also part of the Save a cup scheme.• Old printer ink cartridges are collected on behalf of the

charity Marie Curie.

Green Hosting

• The total electric bill to operate world internet servers is $7.2 billion worldwide.

• Estimated that if energy consumption with web hosting keeps rising at the current rate by 2020 the industry will be more polluting than the airline industry.

• The HCR website is powered by green hosting using solar and wind sources.

Furniture re-use network

• Supporter of the Furniture re-use network

• we have added to over 2.5 million items

• Diverting 90,000 tonnes of waste from landfill.

• Re-using furniture saves the manufacturing energy -reducing CO2 emissions.

Role of HCR Employees

• HCR Green Card – Walk to work scheme to encourage employees to walk, cycle, use public transport, or car share to work

• Each employee has received a credit card sized card (similar to coffee shop loyalty cards).

• For every day an employee walks, takes public transport or those who use one of the above means to get to work for a minimum of 15 days per month are entered into the draw.

Sustainable relocation:

• For each corporate relocation case undertaken, HCR will plant a tree on behalf of our clients.

• The Sustainable Relocation Promise enables HCR to provide Greener relocations to its clients. HCR take the financial burden of this promise and do not add any mark up to cover the cost of this.

• Trees will be receive on going monitoring, ensuring they are maintained appropriately and last a lifetime.

• Certificates are provided a unique reference number to enable them to track their tree's progress online. Printed on paper made from sheep’s waste even the certificates are eco-friendly.

• The promise was launched at a community woods in Farnham on Sunday 21st March, where over 30 HCR Employees and their families gathered to plant 120 trees.

Little things that make a big difference:

• Online meeting facilities – saving money and reduces emissions. For example: training to a large corporation in Manchester. Saved 0.087 tonnes of CO2, and over £100 in travel costs.

• Marketing materials used are created from either recycled paper or FSC certified paper.

• Use Nordic paper throughout office • Provide a paper free brochure• Company cars are low emission vehicles • All staff received energy saving lightbulbs• HCR have a switch off policy

Carbon Neutral

Using the CEMAR methodology we were able to measure our carbon footprint for the past 2 years.

• In 2008 the company produced 11.9 tonnes CO2e• In 2009 we produced 10.2 tonnes CO2e.

• The planting of 130 in March has the potential to off set up to 130 tons of carbon, thus making HCR Carbon neutral in 2008 and 2009.
