Stage 3 Learning Grid Complete the following learning activities over the next two weeks. Keep a timetable of your learning time to keep yourself on track. Be sure to create a safe, quiet learning space, free of distractions Remember to have regular breaks, drink water and eat some fruit/food Don’t forget you can also access Epic, Read theory, Homework Hound, Studyladder, Prodigy Write a story about what you might find inside the tunnel (see Picture 1) Draw and describe what a mathematician or a scientist looks like. Label your image. Try and give a really good description. Write a conversation between a fairy tale character and your teacher. Can you think of over 15 adjectives to describe POPCORN! Give it a go. What is your favourite book? Design a new cover for it and write a summary about it. Step into my book

You are going to use the choice board to complete a variety of activities based on your book. Each activity is worth a number of points. You must make a total of 25 points. You must complete at least one activity from each section. You must complete both of the must do activities

Design a poster to advertise the book. Make sure you write why people should read it

Which character are you most like and why? Which character are you least like and why?

Find 10 common nouns and 5 proper nouns from your text. Illustrate them

Make a prediction as to what you think will happen next in the story. You will need to explain your prediction based in what you have read.

Draw a ‘map’ of the main events of the book you are reading. Draw a picture of each setting and event with brief notes from the text. Join each event with arrows to show the progress of the story

Imagine you are the main character in your book. Choose one day in the story and write a diary entry for that day. Write in first person and remember to say – what has happened, how you feel, etc

You are asked to draw a picture of what you saw in your head as you read 3 different chapters. Write 2 sentences describing what you would see. The picture must contain detail on one or more story elements: setting, main characters, main event, problem or solution

Make a list of 8 questions you would ask the main character

Make a venn diagram to compare and contrast the main character and yourself

Using the computer, create a wordle (and print it out) of key words or events from the text.

Write about one of the characters life twenty years from now.

Make a gravestone for 3 of the characters. What would the tombstone say? What would they be remembered for?

Make a list of 20 amazing adjectives from your book

Draw a portrait of a character from your book. Label your picture with words and phrases the author has used to describe them.

Write a letter to a friend telling them all about the character. Tell them how and where you met, what they look like, what you have done together, etc
