Product OverviewDesign your stairs with flexibility and freedom in the model rather than in a dialog box.

A range of individual components allow highly flexible stair configurations and accommodate for both residential and

commercial styles. Railings can be linked to stairs or slabs, or may be placed stand-alone so that stairs easily wind at varied

widths and heights and open on to landings. Stair assemblies can be edited, labelled and output as if they were a single

object.

Model a Straight Flight Stair

In this tutorial we will create a 1000mm wide, straight, timber stair with a 1200mm long landing half way up.First select the Polystair Tool from the ToolBox.

NOTE: If the Polystair tool does not appear in the ToolBox , you will have to add it. This process is outlined in the Installation

Extras article.

Before making any changes to the Stair geometry, within the Floor Plan and Section tab make sure the Floor Plan Display

is set to Show on Home Story and one Story up. This means when we go up to the story above, the stair will still show.

Now go to the Cadimage Stair Component - Settings tab, and within Dimensions set the Stair Width to 1000, and set the

Total Rise height to 2700.

NOTE: Setting the Rise height is not essential as it can be adjusted dymanically in 3D latter on.

Within Structure select the Structure image and change it to Timber Stringers, then select the Stringer image and change it

to Square.

Within Treads & Risers change the Riser type to Angled Risers, then set the Going to 300mm, I haves chosen to lock the

going dimension so that it is consistent for my entire stair - do this by clicking on the lock icon and change it from an open

lock to a locked lock.

Click OK, then within your Plan View (you could be in 3D also) click the start point of your stair, the Ploystair Pet Palete will

pop up, form this choose your flight type, which is straight flight. Move your cursor in the direction you wish the stair to go,

i.e. to the right, and type 2000 into the tracker and hit Enter .

Your next stair component is a landing, so from the Pet Palette choose straight landing, and into the tracker type 1200, then

Enter .

Next add another piece of stair by choosing straight flight from the Per Palette, then type 2000 into the tracker and hit Enter .

To finish the stair, click on the node at the end of the stair.

Notice that you now have info boxes for each flight component telling you the going and the riser height. 193mm is too high for

our risers.

To change this, select the top flight (you could also select the bottom flight), choose the pink hotspot at the end of the stair,

and drag it to the right. As you drag your mouse, notice that a new riser is 'hinted' to be placed every 300mm. (this is because

we locked our going to 300mm). Move you mouse to the right so that just one extra riser will be placed.

Now the riser height has changed to 180mm for all placed flights.

The stair can be viewed in 3D.

If you are happy with the stair, you need to assemble it. This basically converts the various components into a single object,

meaning if you have many stairs placed, they do not slow down your views.

To assemble your stair, select a piece of it (you do not need to select all the components) and go to Cadimage > Stairs >Assemble Stair .

In Plan View you will see a breakline appear, this can be selected via the pink hotspot at its centre and dragged along to the

landing.

There are many more settings for stair structure and geometry as well as how the stair is represented in your 2D

documentation. Please refer to the Stair Component section of the Knowledge Base.

Model a 'U-Shaped' Stair In this tutorial we will create a 1200 wide, concrete, 'U-shaped' stair.

First select the Polystair Tool from the ToolBox.

NOTE: If the Polystair Tool is not visible, you will need to make it show. This process is outlined in the Installation Extras

article.

Before making any changes to the Stair geometry, within the Floor Plan and Section tab make sure the Floor Plan Display

is set to Show on Home Story and one Story up. This means when we go up to the story above, the stair will still show.

NOTE: Setting the Rise height is not essential as it can be adjusted dymanically in 3D latter on.

Within Structure select the Structure image and change it to Concrete.

Within Treads & Risers change the Riser type to Angled Risers, then set the Going to 300mm, I haves chosen to lock the

going dimension so that it is consistent for my entire stair - do this by clicking on the lock icon and change it from an open

lock to a locked lock. Change the tread thickness to 0 (i.e. we do not want to see a tread, just the plain concrete)

Also because we do not want to see the timber treads, go to Model > Materials and change Treads and Risers to match

Structure - i.e. Surf-Concrete Dark

Your next stair component is a landing, so from the Pet Palette choose straight landing, then move your mouse in the

direction of the landing (i.e. to the right) and type 1400 into the tracker, then Enter . Next bit of landing is up, so move your

mouse up, and into the tracker type 2800, Enter , then move your mouse to the left and type 1400, Enter .

Next add your final piece of stair by choosing straight flight from the Per Palette, then type 2200 into the tracker and hit

Enter . To finish the stair, click on the node at the end of the stair.
