BEGINNING PATCHWORK FEATURING: DISAPPEARING NINE PATCH Learn a simple and fun way to create a dynamic patch work pattern! In this class, students of quilting will learn how to easily sew a fun and complex patchwork design. A fabric kit will be provided. Students will need to bring a sewing machine with thread and a 1/4" presser foot and know how to use it. No quilting experience necessary! GARDEN ART FEATURING: GREEN MAN FACES Students will make their own Green-man or garden face under the step by step guidance of The 577 pottery staff. GARDEN ART

FEATURING: TOAD ABODES Join us for a fun night making a toad abode (house) for the toad residents of your yard! These dome-like coil structures are adorable yard decorations and are easy to create with a little guidance. Students will create and personalize their small toad houses to their liking! DATE NIGHT POTTERY FEATURING: FLOWER VASE & FLOWER Ask a special person in your life to join you for this fun night of clay work. Fun for partners, friends or family members, each student will create their own flower vase, perfect for fresh cut flowers. They will also create a clay flower, which will look beautiful displayed in the vase all year round (no watering required!) Perfect for a night out to get creative and beat the winter blues! PENDULUMS & DOWSING RODS This class will discuss what pendulums and dowsing rods are, what they are used for, and how to use them. In this hands-on class, students will be able to practice using these items. All materials are provided, but students are allowed to bring their own pendulums or rods to work with if they like. MADE FROM SCRATCH!

NATURAL & INEXPENSIVE WAYS TO STOCK YOUR PANTRY In this class, students will learn how to easily make their own healthy flours, jellies, salad dressings, vegetable stock, non-dairy milks, and more. Students will discover how to incorporate healthy foods like chia, flaxseed, quinoa, and tahini into their diet easily and cheaply. Each participant will taste (and take home!) samples of their choice of homemade milk, flour, and vegetable stock, along with lots of recipes. All supplies provided. Leader: Barbara Brunner. WORM COMPOSTING

Learn the art of using worms, or vermicomposting, to recycle your food waste into usable rich humus for your houseplants or garden. Help put water and nutrients back into the environment instead of taking up space in a landfill. Each participant will make and take home their own vermicomposting bin, including a starter supply of red wiggler worms. Leader: Jamie Kochensparger. Class limit: 20 students. GROW YOUR SOIL This class is built around the book of the same name, written by Diane Miessler, and is the home grower’s guide to restoring soil health for a more bountiful garden. With the growing awareness of the importance of soil and harnessing the power of microbes, this class can help transform your garden spaces into soil that’s teeming with life. HOME HERBALIST 6 WEEK COURSE

This in-depth, six-week course will provide students with a solid foundation in the medicinal preparation and use of herbs. Students will learn about herb cultivation, wild-crafting, common ailments, medicine-making, basic clinical skills, specific herbs and formulas, and much more. There will be lecture-style classes as well as hands-on practice sessions. Books, handouts, and all in-class materials will be provided. Whether you're brand new to herbalism or are looking to place your knowledge into a logical, practical framework, you are invited to join us on this journey! Leader: Sarah Williams. ADULT POTTERY Adult pottery classes are open to anyone 18 and older.

No experience necessary! These classes are designed to be engaging and fun for both the beginner and the seasoned potter. All pottery pieces made will be fired and glazed by

staff and ready for pick up at a later date.

CLAY GARDEN TOTEM In this popular class, students will create a garden totem, crafting clay “beads” which will then be mounted on a provided 3’ pole. Participants will make 6-15 beads, depending on what kinds and sizes they choose. A demonstration of several different clay techniques will be presented, including pinch, coil, slab, and extruder. This class is perfect for the beginner to the advanced potter. Your garden will love the new addition! Leaders: Julie Beutler Limit: 8

HALF DAY THROWING

In this half-day study class, students will expand their skills throwing on the pottery wheel. There will be several demonstrations as well as lots of individual attention in this class set around student’s individual goals. This class requires The 577 Foundation’s 6 Week Adult Pottery class as a pre-requisite for registration. Leader: Julie Beutler. Limit: 5. Wednesday, March 25 9:00am-12:00pm Fee: $50.00

JOYFUL JUNK JOURNALING Adults, or Ages 12+ with an Adult

In this class, students will use a variety of scrap materials to create their own handmade journal. Students will determine the style and purpose of their journals. Create a beautiful journal to hold your creative poems and drawings, or a utilitarian space for bullet journaling, or something else entirely. The process of putting these varied items together is easy; however, the sky's the limit in terms of the techniques which can be used to create a journal which is uniquely yours. Registered children to be accompanied by a registered adult. Leader: Claudia Cooper. Class Limit: 15.

BASIC SEWING

Adults, or Ages 10 + with an Adult

This class, for anyone aged 10 and up, will present basic hand sewing and mending techniques, including sewing a button, creating a buttonhole, enlarging or shrinking a button hole, invisible hemming, hole-patching, as well as a few basic stitches that can help with any sort of mending. Smith will also discuss purposeful mending, a technique which in pottery is known as Kintsugi. All supplies provided. If students have any of their own items that they can use to practice mending, they are asked to bring them! Registered children to be accompanied by a registered adult. Leader: Carmen Smith. FAMILY POTTERY In this family clay class, both adult and child will enjoy an exploration of hand-built pottery projects. Students will make projects using pinch, slab, or extruded clay techniques and can work together or individually. Pieces will then be decorated with colored clay paint. The 577’s pottery staff will fire and finish pieces with a clear glaze and pieces will be ready for pick-up a few weeks later. Leader: Connie Stose. Limit: 10.

PRE-SCHOOL MAKE & TAKE BUSY BAGS

Ages 0-5 with Adult

In this Make and Take class, caregivers will learn how to easily create “Busy Bags”. The activities contained in these homemade pouches engage the mind and fingers through the building of fine motor skills. Kids also learn skills like counting, colors, patterns, shapes… all during self guided play. Busy Bags are particularly useful during times like waiting rooms in doctors' offices, on airplanes, waiting for a meal at a restaurant, car rides, or during quiet activities, like while sibling is sleeping, ..etc. Kids will socialize, learn, and play while the caregivers create three of these activity toys. Families will then go home with these three items plus a big list of ideas for future projects. Leader: Megan Rittenhouse. Class Limit: 12 students.

JOURNEY THROUGH JOURNALING

YOUR STORIES Everyone has a story to tell. Sometimes it’s the everyday moments that inspire us: a chance meeting with a stranger that changes our lives for the better, a family tradition, or a surprise on our doorstep that leaves us with a smile. In this class, participants will learn to write a memorable story in their own voice. Come and enjoy the art of storytelling! YOGA

This beginner 3-week series class focuses on learning simple poses and practicing flexibility, mobility and stability. Each class will begin with purposeful and gentle breath exercises, and will slowly warm up the joints and muscles with simple yoga poses. Students will gently stretch and strengthen. GO WITH THE FLOW

INTRO TO ALCOHOL INKS Alcohol ink is a permanent ink that flows on surfaces, giving wonderful movement and unique vibrant colors to create designs, images, and abstracts. Learn the basics from the ground up using ceramic tiles. This is so easy and a lot of FUN! Absolutely no previous artist experience needed, and all materials will be provided. Participants will watch their creations unfold before their eyes. No two are ever the same and each one tells its own story. Frame will also be provided to display a favorite masterpiece. WATERCOLOR: EXPLORING FLORALS In this two-session class, participants will explore the joy and beauty of flowers painted in a loose and whimsical style. In the first class, participants will learn about shapes, color, and composition to create the first layers of a 12" x 12" painting and some notecards. The second class will explore color and will include instruction on how adding additional layers, salt, and drawing techniques can give a painting added interest. Leader: Connie Stose. Come celebrate spring with bright colors and floral patterns! Participants will create 5 cards for Easter, spring, and a variety of occasions (choosing their own sentiments). Students will also make a paper basket to decorate & fill with treats. Projects will include a variety of techniques - dry & heat embossing, die cuts, and embellishments. All supplies provided. ACRYLIC PAINTING WORKSHOP

RAIN BARREL

MAKE IT AND TAKE IT WORKSHOP Harvesting rainwater improves water quality, helps reduce flooding, and collects free water. In this workshop, participants will learn about the benefits of rain barrels and will use power tools (with assistance, as needed) to make their own rain barrel to take home. All supplies and materials will be provided. Please bring a vehicle large enough to transport a 55-gallon drum rain barrel home. ADULT POTTERY 6-WEEK COURSE This comprehensive pottery class is designed for adults of all levels of pottery experience. This class is the pre-requisite class needed for many pottery classes at The 577 Foundation. Students are invited to experience in-depth clay work, including pinch, slab, coil, and extruder techniques, as well as learn the potter’s wheel and how to use glazes. Leaders: Julie Beutler and Connie Stose. Class Size: 13 students. Thursdays, April 2,9,16,23 May 7,14 1:00-3:00 pm Fee: $130.00

GARDEN ART POTTERY

FEATURING: FLOWER POTS In this class, students will make 2 coil flower pots using extruded coils and simple hand-building techniques. It will be fun for all students, whether they are brand new to pottery or more experienced students. Each pot will be decorated by the student and bisque fired to a lovely terracotta color, or student can add colors using slips! No prerequisite required. Leaders: Julie Beutler and Connie Stose. Class Size: 12 students. Saturday, April 18 2:00-4:00 pm Fee: $45.00

HALF DAY THROWING In this half-day study class, students will expand their skills throwing on the pottery wheel. In this class set around student’s individual goals, there will be several demonstrations, as well as lots of individual attention. Prerequisite: Adult Pottery 6-Week Course. Leader: Julie Beutler. Class Size: 5 students. Wednesday, April 8 9:00 am-12:00 pm Fee: $50.00

SUPERVISED INDIE POTTERY

Need some extra help? In this class, 577 pottery staff will offer assistance to students as they work on their own current projects or start new ones! It's a fun and casual time to catch up with pottery friends while developing pottery skills. Prerequisite: Adult Pottery 6-Week Course. Leaders: Julie Beutler or Connie Stose. Class Size:8 students. Friday, April 17 with Julie, 2:00-4:00 pm, Fee: $20.00 Thursday, April 30 with Connie, 5:30-7:30pm, Fee: $20.00

MORNING YOGA FOR YOUR HEALTH Welcome to this beginner yoga class, where students experience movement, mindfulness, and peacefulness. Bring a yoga mat or use one of ours. This class will be offered in two separate sessions this month. Due to limited space, please register for either the Tuesday or Thursday session of this class. If a student is unable to attend a class, classes cannot be made up in other sessions. Leader: Pam Bortz. Class Size: 8 students. JOYFUL JUNK JOURNALING Adults, or Ages 14+ with an Adult

In this class, students will use a variety of scrap materials to create a handmade journal. Students will decide the style and purpose of their journals: a beautiful piece in which to hold creative poems and drawings, or a utilitarian space for bullet journaling, or something else entirely. The process of putting these varied items together is easy; however, the sky's the limit in terms of the techniques which can be used to create a unique, special journal. Leader: Claudia Cooper. Class Size: 15. This class does require registered teenagers under the age of 18 to be accompanied by a registered adult. Saturday, April 25 1:00-3:00pm Fee: $30.00 per person

100 PLANTS TO FEED THE BEES

With guidance and directions from the Xerces Society (the global authority on insects and other invertebrates), this class and book will allow students to turn their backyard, farm, or any part of the community into a thriving pollinator habitat. INTRODUCTION TO TAI CHI FEATURING: THE 24-MOVEMENT YANG FORM Introduction to the philosophy, benefits, and history of tai chi with a live demonstration and participation. Leader: Richard Messer. Class Size: 10 students. Tuesday, April 28 6:00-7:30 p.m. Class Fee: $15

ADULT POTTERY CLASSES Adult pottery classes are open to anyone 18 and older.

No experience necessary! These classes are designed to be engaging and fun for both the beginner and the seasoned potter. All pottery pieces made will be fired and glazed by

staff and ready for pick up at a later date.

SATURDAY POTTERY FEATURING: GARDEN ART This class provides students who have completed the 6-week Adult Pottery intro course at 577 through our most advanced students an opportunity to receive more pottery skills instruction, individual attention, and several demonstrations, plus have pottery staff present to answer questions and help. Prerequisite: Adult Pottery 6-Week Course. Leaders: Julie Beutler & Connie Stose. Class Size: 15 students. Saturday, April 18 9:00am-12:00pm Fee: $20.00

RAKU POTTERY

Students are invited to spend a fun evening finishing their handmade pots in a Japanese-style firing, while enjoying a delicious potluck! Materials needed: 3-5 pots already bisque fired prior to class and a dish to share for the potluck. Prerequisite: Adult Pottery 6-Week Course. Leader: Julie Beutler. Class Size: 15 students. Wednesday, April 29 5:00-9:00pm Fee: $20.00

YOUTH POTTERY: WHEEL THROWING Ages 8-17 years

NEW in 2020! Now youngsters can try their hand at the wheel! This class will begin with a wheel throwing demonstration. Students will utilize the rest of the time practicing this awesome art form. Any pots able to be kept (learning can take time!) will be glazed by our staff. Leader: Connie Stose. Class Size: 5. Wednesday, April 8 5:00-7:00pm Fee: $30.00

FAMILY POTTERY In this family clay class, both adult and child will enjoy an exploration of hand-built pottery projects. Students will make projects using pinch, slab, or extruded clay techniques and can work together or individually. Pieces will then be decorated with colored clay paint. The 577’s pottery staff will fire and finish pieces with a clear glaze and pieces will be ready for pick-up a few weeks later. Leader: Connie Stose. Class Size: 10.

INTRODUCTION TO FREE HAND WEAVING FOR KIDS

Ages 10-17

This class will include constructing a very basic loom on which students will weave fabric that can stand as a wall hanging or even become a small purse, depending on the artistic vision of the child. Each student will create their own loom using frames and nails, or cardboard, depending on what the child is trying to make. They will learn the different terms that go along with looms and learn how to weave fabric and yarn into the loom to create their final result. Students should bring scissors, a permanent marker (such as a Sharpie), and any fabric or yarn they would like to use in their piece. Leader: Carmen Smith. Class Size: 8. Wednesday, April 22 4:30-6:30 p.m. Fee: $35.00

MUSICAL JAMBOREE Ages 2-5 with Adult

Come and make music in this class designed for preschoolers. Participants will dance, play games, sing, listen to stories, and use toy musical instruments to make music. Take home a shaker to decorate and a CD with most of the songs on it the first day of class. Leader: Elaine Sneider. Class Size: 12 children (plus their adults). Monday, April 6, 13, 20, 27, May 4 10:00-10:45am Fee: $43.00

SENSORY 2.0 Ages 0-5 with Adult

Sensory activities help children explore using all 5 senses, building skills that will help them in school. Come learn something new, play and meet other people. Participants will go home with both make-and-takes as well as a handout with many other DIY ideas that are easy on a budget. This class will be similar to the February sensory class, but is worth repeating! Participants will leave with all new ideas and materials. Each child will go home with one sensory bottle and one sensory bin. Leader: Megan Rittenhouse. Class Size: 12 children (plus their adults). Saturday, April 25 10:00-11:00am Fee: $15.00 per child
