• The Amazing Race was a formative assessment game I created to test my students’ knowledge about Latitude and Longitude in an authentic way. Prior to the class, I had created envelopes and placed them around the school in hidden areas. Within the envelopes had 2 things; a piece of paper that was a jingle and clue for their next ‘pit stop’ and a question they had to answer before moving on. I printed out three maps that students needed to be able to answer the questions. The student’s had a great time playing this game and it gave me insight into what they did and did not know and I was able to reflect upon this and go over it again and clarify misunderstandings during the next class

Questions• Using the map of the world, find what the Latitude and Longitude co-ordinates are for Tunisia, Africa• Using the map of the world, find what country lies at the approximate co-ordinates 18° S, 66°W? • On the map of North America, what are the Latitude and Longitude Co-ordinates of Michigan?• On the map of Australia, find the Latitude and Longitude co-ordinates for Canberra. • Using the map of North America, what state has the co-ordinates of approximately 38° N, 77° W?• Using the map of Australia, guess where Brisbane would be and place a dot on the map. Then write

down the latitude and longitude co-ordinates for where you think Brisbane is.• Using your IPhone, find the compass application. Open this application and write down the latitude

and longitude co-ordinations that you see. After this, return to the classroom with all of your questions
