Luke L. Caffrey was born on a farm near Knoxville, Iowa, !'.[arch 5, 18: Ion of Peter and Mary Caffrey. He attended the public !!ehools of Mari and Madison Counties and Rake's Mechanical school in Kansas City. Y Caffrey moved to Howard County in 1922, living on and owning his 0'. farm in Howard County. He married Genevieve Wren in 1922, and to tl union were born six children, fou r boys and two girls. He served in Wo War I as a Sera-eant in Motor Transport Corps with overseas service, n wa s a member of the American Legion, Farm Bureau and Dowling CI Mr. Caft'rey served twelve years as County Supervisor, served on the COUl

Welfare Board , was Township Trustee on the Township AAA Commit· and was Township Farm Bureau Director. He was a democrat and ser' as State Representative for one term in the Fifty-third General Assem)

Mr. Caffrey passed away March 10, 1970 at Veterans Administrat Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, after a long illness. Services were held at John's Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa, and burial at 5t. Ambr, Cemetery.

Surviving are his wile, Genevieve; two daughters, Mrs. Alvin DriIJi Des Moines and Mrs. J ohn Neuhaus, Walford; four sons, Leo of Cre~ Donald of Des Moines, Roger of Dallas Center and Thomas of Green Re l11inois; two sisters, Mrs. Theresa Coleman, Des Moines, and Sister M. Aquin&!, S.S.J., of LaGrange, Illinois ; 27 grandchildren and two gT(

grandchildren.
