  • SIGNS ON SITE

    Always comply with safety signage Read the labels on containers before using any

    substances Use all safety precautions required

  • DRUGS AND ALCOHOL

    Any Person caught in possession ofunder the influence of drugs oralcohol will be removed from site

    If you are on drugs for any medicalreason, please inform your supervisorat once

  • NO HORSEPLAY

    Stress that horseplay on site will not be tolerated and could lead todismissal and the incident being reported to the police or HSE asthis could be seen as assault. Example:On one site a worker flicked a lit match at a colleague as a joke.Unfortunately the mans overalls had inflammable liquid spilled onthem and he ended up with serious burns.Stress the need for common sense!!

    Look after your P.P.E. and always wear it whenrequired

    Please ask your supervisor to supply theseitems as and when required

  • PLANT & EQUIPMENT You will only be allowed to use plant and

    equipment where trained and authorized to doso.

    Stress that equipment must be fit for use andshould be subject to an inspection process so thatany defects can be reported.

    Consider the hazards from: ElectricityMoving parts / sharp edges Fuels Noise Vibration Dust / flying debris Heat / cold

    and fragile materials Consider weather conditions If in doubt - speak to your

    All of these systems have to be followed properly, regularly inspectedand any defects to be reported to the right person.

  • CONFINED SPACEReducing the Risk of hazards Post signs to alert employees to the dangers of confined spaces Use barriers to keep unauthorized employees out of permit

    spaces Develop and use a written space entry program Conduct air monitoring and other tests to identify and evaluate

    hazards in each permit space Ventilate, eliminate, or control the spaces atmospheric hazards

    before entry into the space

    Check valves and allow gas to flow in one direction only Flashback arrestors are designed to eliminate the possibility of

    any explosion at the cylinder. Combination Check/ Flashback Valves can be placed at the

    torch or regulator The maximum safe working pressure for acetylene is 15 PSI ! Cylinders containing compressed gases must be securely

    restrained in an upright or horizontal position and chained. Employees should be familiar with the details of the Material

    Safety Data Sheets for the gases concerned Oils, greases and other organic materials must never be used

    with oxygen. Oil used on cylinders or regulators, can causeexplosions.
