Dominic Perissinotto, one of Perth’s finest and most experienced organists, once again returns to explore the rich treasury of pipe organ repertoire for the 13th season of Pipe Organ Plus.

Contrasting old masters with more contemporary composers over four diverse concerts, including two solo performances, Dominic will play works only recently created alongside some of the masterworks of organ repertoire. JS Bach’s Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, arguably his greatest work for the organ, Felix Mendelssohn’s Sonata No 6, and two of Maurice Duruflé’s most beautiful works, Prelude, Adagio and Choral Variation on the theme Veni Creator and Suite Op 5, rub shoulders with Reefs I, II and III by Sydney-based composer, Moya Henderson, as well as a number of transcriptions of famous orchestral works by Tchaikovsky, Ravel and Mahler.

In a more contemplative space, Spirit meditates on the Christian feast of Pentecost, which falls on the concert day. The St Paul’s Chapel Choir, resident at John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School, Mirrabooka, has developed a reputation as one of the finest choirs in Perth. Directed by Jamil Osman and accompanied by their organist Jonathan Bradley, they join Dominic, showcasing the two organs in St Patrick’s Basilica for the double organ Mass composed by French master Louis Vierne. The performance will follow the structure of the Mass, with the men from the choir singing the Gregorian chants of the day and the choir singing two motets referencing the Holy Spirit in place of the traditional Offertory and Communion pieces.

Violinist Shaun Lee-Chen and ‘cellist Clare Tunney make a welcome return in a concert spanning four centuries of sonata. Commencing with Jacchini, whose works for the ‘cello helped to strengthen its position as a solo instrument, we will play three other great Baroque composers of sonata: Biber, Corelli and Bach, visiting Mendelsohn and Ravel on the way.

Please join us as we celebrate wonderful, diverse music in the stunning surrounds of St Patrick’s Basilica, Fremantle.
