Proposed regulatory changes in the federal skilled worker program were announced on Aug. 17. As anticipated the selection criteria in the skilled category include emphasis on higher language proficiency, Canadian work experience and younger applicants, while reducing points for foreign work experience.“The changes we are making to update the selection criteria are based on a large body of data and evidence we’ve accumulated over the years showing what skills and qualifications are most likely to lead to success for skilled immigrants,” said Citizenship and Immigration and Minister Jason Kenney, making the announcement. The proposed changes are:• Making language the

most important selection factor by establishing new minimum official language thresholds and increasing points for language;

• Increasing the emphasis on younger immigrants, who are more likely to acquire valuable Canadian experience and remain in the workforce longer;

Trade between India and the U.S. has increased by 40 percent since the launch of India-U.S. Strategic Dialogue by the Obama Administration three years ago and could cross the $100 billion mark this year, a senior administration official said. The elevation of India-U.S. relationship to that of a strategic dialogue in 2009 has produced real results for the well-being and security of the

• Increasing points for Canadian work experience and reducing points for foreign work experience;

• Simplifying the arranged employment process; and

• Awarding points for spousal language ability and Canadian experience.

Another proposed change is the mandatory requirement to have foreign education assessed against Canadian education standards by designated organizations, prior to applying. However, it does not necessarily guarantee that the prospective immigrant would become licensed to practice in a regulated occupation, according to a government press release.“This is an important step we are taking to address the problem of immigrants arriving and not being able to work in their field,” added Minister Kenney. “This new requirement will help potential newcomers make informed choices about immigration and Canadian career paths.”These changes are expected to come into effect in January 2013.

Air India Gears Up to Receive First Boeing 787 DreamlinerWith Air India’s first Boeing 787 Dreamliner landing in New Delhi, a definitive delivery schedule for the aircraft would be firmed up soon as two more are ready for delivery, official sources said. The last hurdle in taking

delivery of this plane has been cleared with the law and justice ministry giving its nod to the compensation settlement agreement which Air India would sign with the US plane-maker for the almost four-year delay in its deliveries.

An Air India team, including pilots, engineers and crew, has already reached Boeing’s South Carolina facility to go through the formalities as soon as they get a nod from the airline’s top brass, they said.A definitive delivery schedule

would follow soon and it could involve the first few of these long-haul planes being delivered in 7-10 day intervals, the sources suggested. With the first aircraft coming in now, Air India plans to take delivery of all 27 of them by 2016.The Dreamliners’ delivery was to take place in 2008 and the rest by October 2011. But their delivery was delayed due to various factors, including spare supply delays and labour trouble. The induction of the plane would enable Air India mount several new international flights, including those it plans to launch for Melbourne and Sydney this winter. The twin-aisle aircraft can typically carry between 210 and 250 passengers on routes of 14,200 km to 15,200 km distance, while using 20 percent less fuel than airplanes of similar size. This is because of its lighter weight as it is made out of carbon composite material, instead of aluminium. However, the aircraft would be flown on busy domestic routes for about two months for the already-trained pilots to practice more on take-offs and landings, before it is put into service on long-haul international routes, the sources said.Air India was the second airline to place orders for 27 B-787s but two Japanese carriers, All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, and Ethiopian Airlines have already started flying them.

people of the two countries, the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Robert Blake, said. The third annual session of the strategic dialogue was held in June this year.“To take one example, the trade between our two countries is up 40 percent since we began our strategic dialogue three years ago, and it may exceed, we hope, $100 billion this year,” he added.

Blake was addressing the Indian American community at an event organised by the National Council of Asian Indian Associations (NCAIA).“Since India’s independence, and most notably over the last decade, we have woven the tapestry of cooperation into one of the broadest and deepest bilateral relationships in the world. Today, this is a relationship that knows no limits,” he said.

“On virtually every field of human endeavor, the U.S. and India are partnering to shape a more secure and prosperous environment not just in our two countries, but throughout the world,” he added. The U.S. official appreciated the role of the Indian American community in strengthening ties between the two countries.

Lindsay Lohan is back in surprisingly familiar territory as the prime suspect in a criminal investigation ... oh

how we only wish we were kidding. The troubled star is formally a suspect in the theft of $100,000 worth of watches and sunglasses from an L.A. home this month, a resource told. LiLo was recently at the Hollywood Hills home of Sam Magid, who called the LAPD and reported a jewelry theft the night after an all-night party. The 26-year-old star has been at the house frequently, including at the all-night house party a week ago Sunday when Magid reported the crime.Lindsay and her assistant Gavin Doyle are both suspects in the theft, with earlier reports suggesting that Lohan may have invited the robbers in.Now it appears she’s being

fingered as the crook herself. There’s an odd twist, though, in that Magid has since recanted his story and now says nothing was stolen. Police aren’t closing the investigation,

however. Lindsay, of course, is already on probation for a similar offense - her alleged jewelry heist from a store last year. An arrest here would look very, very bad.

Prince Harry “Disappointed” in Himself, Shuts Down Facebook AccountMany people think the Prince Harry nude pictures are being blown out of proportion, but the royal himself takes the situation very seriously.“He feels he has let himself down and is very disappointed with the fact that he allowed it to happen,” a source said. Its unlikely Harry will attend the Paralympic Games’ opening as planned, and will keep a VERY low profile for some time. That includes toning dialing down his presence online. In the wake of the Prince Harry naked pic leaks, he frozen his anonymous Facebook account as well.“Because all of the Vegas drama he’s shut down his account,” a source explains.“So no more Facebook for Harry for a while. He’ll probably come back online in the future, but, for now, he’s been advised to go offline.”“It’s best that he keeps a low profile for the moment.”The 27-year-old will resurface a bit this week when he reports back to Royal Air Force Wattisham base, however. He may be reprimanded by the

army. There, the helicopter pilot will have formal interviews with both Lieutenant Colonel Thomas de La Rue and the Head of Army, General Sir Peter Wall.“This is pretty serious,” a military source says. “General Wall is a tough guy to make excuses to. He won’t let Harry get away with just a light ticking off.”Meanwhile, Rosa Monckton, a close friend of Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, stands by the embattled

royal unconditionally.“He is absolutely entitled to a private life,” she says. “He has a full-time job and he is a full-time serving member of the armed forces.”“They all need to let their hair down.”Although Monckton acknowledges that Harry is “guilty of a lack of judgment,” she goes on to say, “But that’s young men for you … It’s classic of a young officer. They work very hard and they play very hard. It’s a very simple thing.”

Oscar-winning sound specialist Resul Pookutty has hit out at the humanitarian TV show for being “doctored.”“Satyamev Jayate was a completely doctored show. We had the belief to win: Unmukt Chand

West Indies favourites to win World Twenty20: Sourav Ganguly

Grand Slam partners Sania Mirza, Mahesh Bhupathi split at US OpenIndia’s Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi will not play mixed doubles at the US Open despite the pair having captured two Grand Slam

titles together as the bitter fall-out from the Olympics continued. Bhupathi will team up with Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic in New York while Sania will link with

Britain’s Colin Fleming. Sania played mixed doubles at the Olympics with Leander Paes but only in controversial circumstances after Paes had

demanded an assurance that only he, and not Bhupathi or Rohan Bopanna, would be paired with her. Angry Sania hit out about the arrangement, saying she was uncomfortable at being used

as “bait” to keep Paes happy. Sania and Bhupathi won the Australian Open in 2009 and French Open in 2012.

Yet to play a game for India, Unmukt Chand is already a superstar. However, India’s latest U-19 World Cup winning skipper Unmukt Chand has his head in the right place. His feet too are on the ground. “Right now, I am not thinking whether I am good enough to play for India and whether I should be picked. I have been selected for India ‘A’, so the next target is to go to New Zealand and perform. I am just cherishing this moment and enjoying myself,” Unmukt told a packed press conference here on Tuesday. Not surprisingly, the number of media persons were far greater than those that had assembled when the team had departed for the World Cup. “Right now I want to take things one step at a time. At the moment I just want to perform at whatever level I am picked. I do want to play for India but that will happen in its own time,” he replied. Talking of his hundred in the final against Australia on Sunday, Unmukt said, “We are very happy to win the World Cup. Aug 26th is a big day for me. I think I was fortunate to score the hundred when my team needed me most. The final was an important match and I wanted to do well. Some days you click and some days you don’t. I wanted to take India to 226 and I was successful and am really happy about it,” he said. Reminiscing the journey to the trophy, Chand said, “The best

thing about the tournament is we faltered initially and then we got into the groove slightly later in the tournament. We stumbled a bit, but peaked at the right time. The best part was that we didn’t know what was happening in India, and that really kept us on target. The belief was very strong among the guys and we always felt we will go and lift the trophy.” His cool on-field demeanour right through the tournament prompted people to compare him with the original ‘captain cool’ - MS Dhoni. Unmukt’s response was: “You guys compare, we just play.” Coach Bharat Arun, whom pacer Sandeep Sharma describes as the “best coach in the world,” deserves some credit too. Arun wasn’t willing to buy the argument that performances at this Word Cup need not be taken too seriously.

“The U-19 level is a great platform. It is a showcase for talent, and very competitive. The fielding was good and some of the bowlers bowled at speeds of 140 to 150 kmph. Everybody contributed. It was all about handling pressure and they did that. The big difference between U-19 and the senior level is that those at the senior level are more mature,” he stressed, before outlining the next objective: “The bigger challenge will be to take the next step.” Will anyone from here make it to the Indian team? Arun wasn’t willing to take names, perhaps not wanting to make some boys feel left out. I am sure some of them will go on to play at the highest level soon. If you look at previous World Cups, only 20% make the cut. And only another 20% end up playing good first class cricket. So it is obviously difficult.”

Without playing down India’s chances, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly suggested on Tuesday that West Indies were among the frontrunners to lift the World T20 title in Sri Lanka next month. “West Indies are a powerhouse (in this format),” an impressed Ganguly told reporters at an event organized by tournament broadcasters ESPN-Star Sports. “They have guys like Chris Gayle, (Kieron) Pollard, Dwayne Smith, Andre Russel and (off-spinner) Sunil Narine. They also have a good fast bowling attack with Fidel Edwards and Kemar Roach, all bowling at 90 miles an hour,” Ganguly added. Ganguly’s fellow commentator for the event, former Test batsman Sanjay Manjrekar, agreed, saying, “West Indies are a strong Twenty20 team because they have got the best four T20 players in the world.” While both felt there are other teams like Pakistan who can rise to the occasion, India too will be looking to add to their one World T20 title, won in 2007, when they head to Sri Lanka for the Sept 18-Oct 7 event. “When you have players like Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni

and Yuvraj Singh, it is very difficult to count India out. There is a lot of firepower there,” Ganguly said. “India always have a great chance, especially in limited-overs cricket. They have got the players who can clear the boundary with ease and they will be playing in the subcontinent, where the short ball will not bother them. India have most things going in their favour. If Sehwag fires at the top, it will be difficult to stop India. That said, they are in a tough group in World T20.” ‘Bhajji should have been recalled earlier’ Ganguly also chose to bat for beleaguered recalled off-spinner Harbhajan Singh,

saying, “Harbhajan is one bowler who should be playing all three formats of the game. One year was a bit too long time to keep him out. The board should have spoken to him and told him, ‘Look, we are giving you six months time to sort out your bowling’. You can’t keep a bowler like him in domestic cricket for too long.” ‘27 cameras for each match’ The official broadcasters will be installing 27 cameras for each of the 27 matches during the World Twenty20. “We will have 27 cameras for each match. We will also have touch screen cricket presentation tool in our analysis,” an ESPN director said.

MOVIE TALK

Son Of Sardaar confirmed for Nov 13 release

Big B happy with films earning Rs. 100 crore

Bheja Fry director-Vinay Pathak to team up for comedy film?Director Sagar Ballary and actor Vinay Pathak, who have worked together in Kachha Limboo and the hit Bheja Fry series are likely to team up for the fourth time for a comedy film. “I am almost done with my script. It is a comedy film. We have approached people...we are in the process of casting. Once the cast and other things are in place we will announce it in the coming 15-20 days,” Sagar told PTI.“We are working on two-three other scripts simultaneously. One is a comedy film and hopefully we would be going ahead with it first. It will go on floors this year,” he said. Out of the four films that Sagar has directed, three of them featured Vinay. “Hopefully yes, he (Vinay) will be part of the film, provided we get his dates. All I can is that the actors in this film are good..can’t say if they are big or are newcomers. We are trying to get the dates of actors and then we will start shooting,” he said refusing talk further about the ‘comedy’ film. After making the audiences laugh out loud with Bheja Fry in 2007, Sagar returned after four years to hit the chord with sequel Bheja Fry 2. As ‘Bheja Fry 2’ was a moderate success at box office, Sagar is not in a hurry for the third installment. “Recently Vinay and I met ...we were

discussing about the third part, but we don’t want to rush into things. We would like to take the franchise ahead. The third part has to be as good and interesting as the previous two films, only then we will go ahead,” Sagar said. “Its too early to talk about anything on this,” he said. ‘Bheja Fry’ revolved around Bharat Bhushan played by

Vinay Pathak, a tax inspector who is looking to fulfil his long cherished dream of becoming a singer. While, In Bheja Fry 2, the idiot’s (Vinay) journey continues abroad which had a bigger star cast and higher budget. The film starred Vinay, Kay Kay Menon, Minissha Lamba, Suresh Menon and Amol Gupte.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan believes these are good times for the Hindi film industry as movies are regularly minting Rs. 100 crore and plus at the box office.“It’s a great time for the industry. More the business, the earnings, the better it is,” the 69-year-old said here.“Last year, the film industry was going through a bad phase. Most films were not working. But it is good to see that lately films are doing good business,” he added.Amitabh will soon be seen hosting the sixth season of game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), and admits it has helped him increase his knowledge base.“The amount of knowledge I get from here (KBC), I don’t get outside. I’m grateful to KBC because of which my knowledge is also increasing,” he said. The first season of KBC went on air in 2000 on Star Plus. After four seasons, the show shifted to Sony last year and now the sixth season of the game show is ready to go on air Sept 7.

The festival of Diwali is always a big ticket window for our B-town folks. This year too, two biggies, namely Yash Chopra’s SRK- Katrina- Anushka starrer and Son Of Sardaar starring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Juhi Chawla, are slated to clash at the B.O.However, as the release date of November 13 fast approaches, there have been some murmurs doing the rounds that this clash may not take place. However those are just rumours. Son of Sardaar is definitely releasing on November 13 and so is Yash Chopra’s untitled film. While YRF’s film is still being shot, post-production work on Son Of Sardaar is already on in full swing in anticipation of a bumper Diwali day release. A reliable source confirms to us that Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt are currently dubbing for the film in Hyderabad and the entire creative and marketing teams are brainstorming on putting in place an innovative publicity blitzkrieg.

The production houses backing Son Of Sardaar namely Devgn Films, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and YRV Infra & Media have in fact paved the way for an all out release and have licensed the worldwide distribution rights to Eros International. The banners have

kick-started their campaign in full swing to release the film with tremendous fanfare and go wide encouraged by positive reports from all their centers.Well, this certainly puts a rest to all rumors circulating around the film for its release.

Father O’Grady was saying his good-byes to the parishioners after his Sunday morning service as he always does when Mary Clancey came up to him in tears. “What’s bothering you, dear?” asked Farther O’Grady. “Oh, father, I’ve got terrible news.” Replied Mary. “My husband passed away last night.” “Oh, Mary!” said the good father. “That’s terrible. Tell me, Mary, did he have any last requests?” “Yes...,” Mary replied sheepishly. “ W e l l ? ” “He said, ‘Please, Mary, put down the gun.’”

A mathematician wandered home at 3 AM. His wife became very upset, telling him, “You’re late! You said you’d be home by 11:45!” The mathematician replied, “I’m right on time. I said I’d be home by a quarter of twelve.”

A woman in her 50s was driving with a friend. She went through a red light. The friend didn’t say anything. But then she went through another one. The friend said, “Do you realize you just went through two red lights?””Oh,” she said, “was I driving?”

Teacher asked : Why are you late for school? Johnny: Because of the Sign. Teacher : What Sign? Johnny : The sign that says “School ahead go slow”

A professional juggler, driving to his next performance, is stopped by the police. “What are you doing with these matches

and lighter f luid in your car?” asks the police officer. “I’m a juggler and I juggle f laming torches in my act.” Oh yeah? Let’s see you do it,” says the officer. So the juggler gets out and starts juggling the blazing torches masterfully. A couple driving by slows down to watch. “Wow,” says the driver to his wife. “I’m glad I quit drinking. Look at the test they’re giving now!”

The English teacher asked Tommy to give her a sentence with an object. “You are very pretty,” he answered. “What’s the object?” the teacher asked. Tommy replied, “To get an A in English.”

There were three dummies. The first one learned how to say “ forks and knives, forks and knives, forks and knives. The second one learned how to say “because he stole my lollipop.” The third one learned to say “Yay we are going on a field trip.” So one day after they climbed a mountain they went into a restaurant. When the waiter set down forks and knives. The first boy said “forks and knives, forks and knives forks and knives. Then the waiter gave the second boy his lollipop but then the third one stole it from him so he said “because he stole my lollipop.” Then they left without paying. So when the police caught them the third one said “Yay we are going on a field trip.”

Two elderly ladies had been friends since their 30s. Now in their 80s, they still got together a couple of times a week to play cards. One

day they were playing gin rummy and one of them said, “You know, we’ve been friends for many years and, please don’t get mad, but for the life of me, I can’t remember your name. Please tell me what it is.”Her friend glared at her. She continued to glare and stare at her for at least three minutes. Finally, she said, “How soon do you need to know?”

One day a blonde went to a store and saw Donuts that were sugar free. So she grabbed them and walked out of the store without paying. Security stopped her and asked, “Excuse me miss, but what do you think you are doing?”She said “ Duhuh...Im taking the free Sugar donuts!”

At a convention of blondes, a speaker insisted that “dumb blonde” myth is all wrong. To prove it he asked one cute young volunteer, “How much is 101 plus 20?” The blonde answered, “120.” “No,” he said, “that’s not r ight.” The audience called out, “Give her another chance.” So the speaker asked the blonde, “How much is 10 plus 13?” Slowly the blonde replied, “16.” “Sorry,” he said, shaking his head. Once again the crowd roared, “Give her another chance.” “This is your last t ry,” warned the speaker. “How much is 2 plus 2?” Carefully she ventured, “Four?” And the crowd yelled, “Give her another chance!

LIFE STYLE & RECIPE

Can People Truly Lose Weight In Only A Week? Most individuals are desperate to lose weight and do it fast. Perhaps it’s for a wedding or a high school reunion, or maybe it’s totally because they ate too much food over the winter and now need to visit the beach and not look like a sausage in a two piece. When the clock is ticking, we search for a fast way to get rid of those extra pounds so we can look our very best. But is it realistically achievable to lose weight in only a week, and if it is, is it safe? Well, that depends on how you decide to lose the weight.Enter a Juicer DietA juice cleanse is a fantastic way to shed extra pounds. However unlike other ways you might have struggled through before, juice fasting has a myriad of benefits that are some major icing on an already-sweet cake. One incredible benefit of a juice diet is that by drinking freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices only, you are giving your body a much needed break from the act of digestion. Have you ever thought about how much energy it takes to digest all of your food? You’d be amazed. This is why on a juice cleanse people might notice that the body’s energy goes way up. The energy you normally use for the act of digestion can now be used for other things, such as

detoxifying cells, healing other organs of disease and getting rid of dangerous inflammation. You can’t get these benefits on an Atkins diet, I promise. How Much Weight Can You Honestly Lose on a Juice DetoxCleanse? To answer this question we have to decide how long of a juice diet we are talking about. A person can do a 1 day juice diet, a 3 day, 5 day, 10 day and even 30 day cleanse. Obviously the length of cleanse will determine how much weight loss is doable.Let’s take a look at a 10 day juice diet, as that is a realistic time frame. That is to say most people, even newbies to juice diets, have the will to do a 10 day fast and 10 days is also the perfect amount of time to really see and feel all of the amazing benefits.By doing a 10 day juice diet, a person’s body body will lose weight in 3 specific ways: water, waste and fat. Any shorter than 10 days and your body will mostly lose weight from water and waste loss only.Shedding WaterNumerous men and women roll their eyes at water loss as anything significant because they assume it’s not as good as fat loss. But let me tell you from personal experience - much of what makes us fat is not fat, it’s bloat, pure and simple. You’d

be stunned at how better you look, and how much better your clothes fit simply by losing 5 pounds of water weight.Loss of Fecal MatterAn individual would be amazed at how the body eliminates old waste. Multiple days will have gone by without an individual eating any dense food, but the body will keep evacuating solid waste. In addition to the fact that this weight loss flatten the stomach, but the toxins are being released which will makes a person healthier.Loss of FatThe fat loss will start around days 7 - 10. At this point your body will be forced to turn to stored energy to fuel itself. It goes without saying that an individual will have a whole bunch of new energy as well, so physical activity will be more fun. The more you move, the more you will burn. It’s safe and fair to say that during a 10 day diet, an individual can expect to lose anywhere from 8 to 12 pounds, give or take. Okay, guilty, 10 days is actually more than a 7 day week, but I believe those 3 extra days are definitely worth it!Meredith Henner is the creator of The Juicer Diet blog, a site dedicated to teaching the many health benefits of a juice cleanse.

I am not against plastic surgery: Priyanka ChopraThough Piggy Chops never felt the need for plastic surgery, the actress says she’s not against it if it helps build self esteem. In an interview to a daily, the actress says she loves the way she looks and has not resorted to plastic surgery so far.“So far, I have never felt the need for any enhancement surgery. What I have is what I have been blessed with. People had a lot of issues about the fact that I was dusky and not a conventional-looking actress. But I still got the opportunities I did,” the actress told the daily.“I am not against plastic surgery. If it helps build self-esteem, I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. But if it becomes an obsession, that can be a problem. For me, I got confidence from my films doing well. Through this profession, I came to understand myself better. So, it hurts when people judge or crucify me on imaginary counts. I have looked different at different ages because I have worked on my look. I love myself the way I am,” she added. The actress previously said

Sonakshi Sinha to play village girl avatar

during an event: “I belive in cosmetic surgery. I’m not judgemental about anybody’s individual choices. But if you can make yourself look better to

feel better, I don’t think there’s anything bad in it. Cosmetic surgery only becomes wrong when it becomes a disease.”

Sonakshi Sinha’s wholesome village belle image, from her debut hit Dabangg (2010), seems to have stuck with her ever since. Starting with that and then Rowdy Rathore earlier this year, the actor has officially become the desi girl of Bollywood. And what’s better is that it even works to her advantage. We hear that in her next, Milan Talkies, Sonakshi is all set to play a village girl once again. A source close to the film tells us, “The looks Sonakshi sported in Dabangg and Rowdy Rathore suited her really well and she garnered a lot of appreciation for them. The audience seems to like her that way.”The source adds, “Her role and, more importantly, her look in Milan Talkies is inspired by these two films. And since she can carry it off with ease, the makers are quite sure that the look will yet again be a hit with the masses. Sonakshi, by now, has a decent fan following, which is also an advantage. Besides, the look they’ve zeroed down is perfect for the storyline of the movie.”In an earlier interview, when

asked if going the desi way worked best for her, Sonakshi had said, “I don’t mind experimenting, but sticking to the Indian look has definitely worked well for me so far. I think it has also made me connect with my audience in a certain manner and I’m fine

with sticking to it (the look).” About making the desi girl look sexy, Sonakshi had said, “I know I’m not stick thin and I don’t intend on being that way either. Being desi suits me and voluptuous is definitely very sexy. So why not?
