GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
General safety instructions
1. Correct useSMW-AUTOBLOK pneumatic centering chuckswork safely and troublefree if they are used accor-ding to their specification i.e. to center tubes onturning machines in order to be clamped by com-pensating chucks. Centering chuck is installedstationary on turret or tailstock and does not rota-te.
2. PersonnelChuck must be installed, operated and maintai-ned only by qualified and regularly trained per-sonnel.
3. Safety guards During loading and machining the centeringchucks and the clamped component must be pro-tected by safety guards. Open machine door onlywhen machine spindle is completely stopped.Maintenance and actuation of the frontendchuck must only be carried out when machinespindle and all movements are stopped.
4. Checking the residual jaw strokeThe end position of the jaw stroke is not monito-red automatically. Before starting the machiningprocess a sufficent residual jaw stroke has to beensured to center the work piece properly.
5. Technical detailsThe max. data, max. actuating pressure p, areengraved on the chuck body. They must not beexceeded.
6. Remaining risksThe type of components (shape, weight, unba-lance, material etc.) has a big influence on thesystem “machine tool - frontend chuck - compo-nent”. For that reason there is always a residualrisk. These residual risks must be calculated by theuser and have to be eliminated by suitableactions.
7. JawsTop jaws must be mounted with head socket scr-ews of the class 12.9 only. Tighten with the speci-fied torque. Always ensure sufficient length ofthread engagement (min. 1,25 x thread dia.)!
If the jaw height of special jaws exceed the heightof the standard jaws, the max. actuating force ofthe chuck must be reduced in order to avoid anexcessive lever action and thus damage to thepower chuck.
8. MaintenanceThe centering chuck must be maintained at regu-lar intervals. Check the conditions and the sealnessof the cylinder chamber by measuring the grippingforce with static gripmeter.Replace damaged parts with original SMW-AUTOBLOK spare parts only.Maintenance must only be carried out at safespindle stop of the machine.

DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTION
Centering chuck Type CC 240 / CC 350
The SMW-AUTOBLOK centering chuck is an air chuck withbuilt in air cylinder (5) that drives the clamping jaws (6) viawedge hook design. A hydraulic dampening unit (2) is loca-ted in the center of the chuck in order to damp and stopthe tube (4) moved through the spindle (9) via the pipe con-veyor.

Sequence of Operation
1. The tube conveyor moves the pipe (4) through themachine spindle (9) to the centering chuck (1).
2. The hydraulic dampener (2) decelerates the tube (4) andstops it in the axial end position for machining.
3. The end position is detected by an prox. switch (3) (notincluded in delivery). The signal is used to start theclamping of the centering chuck (1) and to stop themovement of the pipe conveyor.
4. Then the rear end BIG BORE chuck (7) closes and follo-wing the front end chuck BB-AZ (compensating) (8)clamps the tube (4).
5. The centering chuck (1) opens and retracts.
6. Now the clamping procedure is finished and the machi-ning of the tube can start.

Maintenance
For long service live and accuracy the front-end chuck mustbe maintained at regular intervals.
Every 20-30 working hours: Clean the chuckand lubricate via 3 grease nipples. Use onlySMW-AUTOBLOK grease K 05. The use ofunsuitable lubricants can cause considerableloose of gripping force or damage to the cente-ring chuck.
Check regulary the clamping force with SMW-AUTOBLOK gripmeter GFT and check sealnessof the built on cylinder.
Every 12 months: Disassemble the chuck, cleanall parts and change the seals. Replace all dama-ged or worn-out parts with original SMW-AUTOBLOK spare parts only.

INSTALLATION / OPERATION / MAINTENANCE
Installation
1. Mount the centering chuck on turret or tailstock pro-perly and make sure that the center of the CC –chuck is in line with spindle center.
2. Use air service unit with oiler pressure regulator andair filter. Max. pressure is 10 bar / 145 psi. Use oil HLP 46
3. Connect chuck with control unit and check all func-tions and proper sequence of the centering and rear-end / fronted chucks.
4. Adjust the prox switch in order to stop the tube con-veyor when the tube arrived to the stop of the dam-pener.
Check all functions and sequences carefully.
Operation
Before mounting top jaws clean the serration ofthe base jaws and top jaws. Use screws 12, 9

Adjust pressure according weight and characteri-stic of work piece. Recommended pressure 5 – 10 bar / 70 - 145 psi.

3. • Remove first part No. (16 center sleeve) with the dampening unit
• Remove flange part No. (12) and remove the piston disk (14)
• Remove cover (19) located under piston disk• Take out the wedge (21) and the base jaws (22) by
moving the wedge in axial direction (closing chuck)
Please note: On the CC 350 the chuck body of our SP 350chuck is used. The CC 350 does not use non return valve.Therefore the valve system is closed by a dummy (10) + (11)
