The UN’s collaborative initiative on REDD, launched in Sep 2008 to assist developing countries prepare and implement REDD+ strategies

UN-REDD builds on the expertise of FAO, UNDP and UNEP

Pakistan became a UN-REDD member in 2011, met all requirements

Supports 42 countries spanning Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America

14 are receiving direct support to National Programmes (US$59.3 m)

28 countries (incl. Pakistan) not receiving direct support, participate in regional workshops and knowledge sharing

Policy Board: Made up of partner countries, donors, Civil Society, Indigenous Peoples and 3 UN agencies

UN-REDD Global Programme incl. Targeted Support started in 2012; Pakistan initially submitted 2 proposals for TS 1. MRV (through FAO) 2. Governance (through UNEP)

Formed in Oslo in May 2010, the Partnership serves as an interim platform for its partner countries to scale up actions and finance for REDD+ initiatives

The Partnership aims to take immediate action (including improving the effectiveness, efficiency, transparency and coordination of REDD+ initiatives and financial instruments), to facilitate knowledge transfer, capacity enhancement, mitigation actions, technology dev/ transfer

The REDD+ Partnership builds on a voluntary, non-legally binding framework to develop and implement collaborative efforts for REDD+

Pakistan became Partner in 2010

Pakistan developed Voluntary REDD+ Database (VRD)

As of 12 June 2011, the Partnership included 73 Partner countries

REDD+ Partnership meeting and workshop, 27-28 Feb, 2012

Next meeting and HLS due in Doha on margins of UNFCCC COP

FCPF is a global partnership focused on REDD+, formed in 2008

FCPF assists forest countries develop the systems and policies for REDD+, performance-based payments (Readiness Phase)

Support to reference scenarios, REDD+ strategy, designing MRV setting up REDD+ arrangements

Governance structure: 28-member elected Participants Committee

The World Bank acts as trustee for the Readiness Fund, providing technical support to the REDD country participants

37 REDD countries have been selected as FCPF members, 13 countries submitted Readiness Preparation Proposals (R-PPs)

Readiness grant agreements of up to $3.6 m, 16 financial contributors have pledged about $447 m

Pakistan applied for membership to the WB/FMT, expected 2013

Full-scale SFM / REDD+ Project for GEF funding“Implementation of National Forest

Programme”

Forestry Wing developed PIF at $ 18 m

3. Workshop on “Social & Environmental Principles & Criteria for REDD+ safeguards” 12 January 2012, with the support of SLMP

4. Visit of REDD+ Demonstration sites in Nepal, January 2012, with the support of FAO, ICIMOD
