Completed Remote Operations Projects

The Matrix (backend switching under software control)•Commissioned October 2010 and in full use since then •Rohde & Schwarz COTS hardware & embedded controller•Fast, reliable PCS astronomical baseband switching to backends

Master Control Panel (remote stowing the 64m)• Installed March 2011, project finalised June 2011•Completes drive system stowing functionality under remote control•Duplicated MCP unit, functions as SERVO development platform

Control & Monitoring (for remote operations•MoniCA system points increased ~ 100% (now ~2000 monitor points)•Monitoring & control of telescope systems essential for remote operations•Receivers, backends, conversion, essential power, timing, airconditioning•Project close imminent, but further monitoring to be implemented

Parkes Power

Site UPS upgrade (essential bus)•Battery replacement & upgrade•Uptime increased from 14 minutes to > 1 hour•Thycon UPS electronics upgrade enhanced reliability•Separate dedicated drive system UPS planned for tower basement

Standby Generator (essential bus)•250kVA generator replaced by a 350 kVA Cummins•New fuel tanks bring compliance with environmental requirements•Temporary installation completed, pending HV infrastructure work

High Voltage Infrastructure (main transformer +)•Replaces 50 year old 500kVA transformer & 11kV control equipment•New 750 kVA transformer onsite, pending installation in May 2012

Telescope Instrumentation

Maser & Timing (hut & distribution system) upgrade•Insulated airconditioned container, fibre feed to telescope tower•Timing system architecture change improves isolation, fanout.•Cutover target August 2012 Parkes Shutdown

HIPSR (Collaborative Backend Project)•UWA/Swinburne/Oxford University & CSIRO•Rack space allocated and installation proceeding in Parkes tower•Further work during March 2012, including tests with MBCORR

Telescope Instrumentation

Operational RFI Analyser (0.01 – 3 GHZ)•Wideband receiver & backend, phase coherent, 22 MHz baseband•COTS hardware, remote web interface, flexible API .•Independent, ToA/DoA RFI/EMC identification, tracking & monitoring

•Initially for ASKAP (MRO) Operations

MARS receiver upgrade•Baseband widened to 1 GHz, in S-band (2600 – 3600 MHz)•Compatibility with Parkes Conversion System•Receiver monitoring and control package upgrade.
