They also will be the site of First Friday after-parties, where people can watch bands play to films. They open Friday. Capital BlueCross Creativity Commons Glass doors open like accordions from this first-floor multi-purpose venue to the Air Products Town Square. Its Mike and Ike Bistro will be open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. A shop in the northeast corner will sell SteelStacks and Musikfest mer- chandise. Around the corner you’ll find Connect@SteelStacks, where guests can plug into new gaming or host presentations. Fowler Blast Furnace Room/The Loft This second floor loft and exhibition space will welcome comedy and improv shows and be available for private events. Beams and ducts are painted international orange, the color of the Golden Gate Bridge built with Bethlehem Steel. Sands Deck Off the third floor of the ArtsQuest Center, this outdoor balcony with views of the SteelStacks campus can seat 120 people. Unique pro- gramming is planned, such as cigar demon- strations and domino tournaments. Musikfest Cafe Presented by Yuengling A winding staircase leads to the third floor of the ArtsQuest Center and the Musikfest Cafe, the heart of the center. The indoor venue for ticketed concerts seats 500 in cabaret-style, 657 in theater-style and 1,021 for standing-room only. The stage is in front of floor-to-ceiling glass windows with the Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces as a dramatic backdrop. The room includes two full bars and a kitchen. The cafe is expected to showcase entertain- ment 200 days a year beginning May 1. The first performance April 30 features Steve Miller in a private concert for major donors. PBS39 PUBLIC MEDIA AND EDUCATION CENTER This 29,000-square-foot facility will house two television studios for PBS39. Like the ArtsQuest Center, it features an all-glass north wall. It will include state-of-the-art HD production and broadcast equipment and public access to satellite uplink communications. PNC PLAZA This will be the home of an expansive farmers market with local vendors and cooking demonstra- tions, as well as an antiques and arts market. The farmers market will run 3-7 p.m. Tuesdays, May 10 through Nov. 8. The arts and antiques market will be open May 14 through August 28, noon-8 p.m. Satur- days and noon-6 p.m. Sundays. It also will be the main site for Oktoberfest, Christkindlmarkt and Peeps Fest. AIR PRODUCTS TOWN SQUARE The granite and brick paved plaza sandwiched between the ArtsQuest Center and the Levitt Pavilion will be the spot for about 400 free performances a year of all kinds. It is also one of the sites for the iSabor! Latin Festival, RiverJazz Festival, Musikfest, SteelJam Festival and Blast Furnace Blues Festival. It opens Friday. LEVITT PAVILION Scheduled to open July 2, this outdoor concert venue for 2,500 people will provide free musical programming on a giant lawn. Currently, 33 shows are scheduled for this summer, and organizers expect 50 each summer there- after. Acts will range from local to national and include anything from rock to blues to Celtic. Sunday evenings in July will feature performances exclusively for kids. Programming previously at Musikfest’s Americaplatz venue will move here. FESTIVAL CENTER Once the Bethlehem Steel turn-and-grind shop, this building west of the blast fur- naces and adjacent to PNC Plaza will be a 26,000-square-foot open space festival center. Plans are to replace the roof, win- dows, doors and floors while maintaining some of the historic equipment. Work is expected to begin later this year and take about a year. SANDS STEEL STAGE This occasional outdoor venue in the PNC Plaza will be the site of Musikfest’s ticketed concerts previously staged at RiverPlace on Sand Island. The venue seats 7,200 and has two private VIP areas. ARTSQUEST CENTER Positioned in the heart of the campus, this four- story performing arts and cultural center features indoor and outdoor entertainment venues. It will stage local, regional and national artists and musicians and movies 365 days a year.
