Section F

(10 marks) Matching Questions and Answers.

Listening Examination: There are two parts and each part is heard twice.

Section L1

Section L2

(10 marks) A gap-fill exercise. Five short sentences with a missing word in each.

The Speaking TestThe Speaking Test is an optional extra test, not a part of the standard test. It is done with two students and an examiner. There are three parts (called ‘tasks’). The speaking test (for two students) takes about 5 to 8 minutes.

Time Allowed: the exam (including the listening section) takes one hour.

Listening L1, L2, L3

SCORING: Your final score comes from combining the three skills of writing (W) and reading (R) sections (33% each) with the listening (L) section (33%). You will be given an overall Refer (<50%), a Pass (50-64%), a Merit (65-79%) or a Distinction (80+%). The % you achieved for each skill will also be shown on your certificate. Your speaking test score will be given separately.

Anglia's Junior exam has a reading and writing paper with eight sections, A-H, and a listening paper with two sections, L1 and L2. The exam takes one hour. Most candidates do not need an hour. The speaking test is a short interview with another student. It's a separate test and not aggregated into the reading, writing and listening marks. The writing, reading and listening sections are as follows:

BRITISH AND AMERICAN ENGLISH

Spelling Differences Some words are spelt differently:

BrE aeroplanecolourfavouritegreyMum

AmEairplanecolorfavorite gray Mom

Vocabulary DifferencesSometimes Americans and British people use different words to describe the same thing.

British English American English

FOOTBALL SOCCER

TRAINERS SNEAKERS

TROUSERS PANTS

RUBBER ERASER

MOBILE PHONE CELLPHONE

Anglia Exams use British English (BrE) but students can choose to use American English (AmE). In speech, consistency is not as important as varieties are naturally blended in international communication. In writing it is more important to be consistent and use either BrE or AmE to avoid readers thinking you have made a mistake.
