P R I N C I P A L ’ S M E S S A G E : Students in 3rd, 4th, & 5th grades will be taking the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College Careers) Test from April 10-26. This is an important test that provides information about the extent to which our stu-dents are meeting state learning standards. This is an exciting time when students get to show what they have learned! A few reminders for our families:
*Make sure your child is here every day. Make appointments on days off or later in the day.
*Be on time to school. Testing will start promptly at 9:05 in some classes.
*Encourage your child to get a good night’s rest.
*Eat a healthy breakfast.
*Encourage your child to do their best!
Thank you for your support and encouragement!

Spring Picture Day
Don’t forget—Spring Picture Day will
be Thursday, April 13.
National Walking Day!—April 5
Walking Toward a Healthier You
There are countless physical activities out there, but walk-
ing has the lowest dropout rate of them all! It’s the sim-
plest positive change you can make to effectively improve
your heart health. Research has shown that the benefits of
walking and moderate physical activity for at least 30
minutes a day can help you:
-Reduce the risk of coronary heart disease
-Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels
-Improve blood lipid profile
-Maintain body weight & lower the risk of obesity
-Enhance mental well being
-Reduce the risk of osteoporosis
-Reduce the risk of breast and colon cancer
-Reduce the risk of non-insulin dependent (type 2) diabetes
-Fun and easy
-No special equipment needed
There really are so many benefits for such a simple activity!
Let’s take a WALK! Walk to school, to a friend’s, around
the neighborhood or in the mall with your family!

Café News The school year is quickly coming to an end. I
would like to take a minute and ask parents/
guardians to watch for negative balance letters
that are sent home with their students. Any large
dollar amounts will be turned over for collection at
the end of the school year. If your student has a
large negative dollar amount, I urge you to set up a
payment plan by calling any of the following: Char
Formella or Katy Hansen @ 663-2351 or Deidre
Witte @ 827-6031. If we haven’t heard from you
by Thursday, April 13, 2017, your student will
begin receiving a Cheese sandwich, fruit, veggie &
milk. If your income changes any time during the
school year, you are always welcome to apply for
free/reduced breakfasts & lunches. If you have a
child in your household that qualifies for free/
reduced lunch and one that has not, please
contact Deidre Witte so that benefits can be
extended.
Thank you,
Char Formella, Stevenson Café Manager

Stevenson Student Council
Student Council Service Project:
Our school is still partners in education with Ronald McDonald House and we are continu-
ing to collect pop tabs for this charity. Please send your pop tabs to school in a zip lock
baggie.
The Leader in Me:
At Stevenson, the student council members are seen as leaders. These students are role models in our school and
other students look to them for advice and guidance. Since our student council members are already showing the
school expectations we have been giving them more opportunities to grow as leaders by learning more about the 7
habits of happy kids during our monthly meetings. Visit http://www.theleaderinme.org/the-7-habits-for-kids to learn
more about each habit and to support discussions at home.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 1-5!
This year, try something different to honor the special teacher in your child’s life -- consider a donation to the Beyond the Books Educational Foundation in the teacher's name.
Each year, Beyond the Books supplies grant monies for innovative educational projects to educators in both Bloomington District 87 and McLean County Unit District No. 5. Since its inception in 1992, Beyond the Books has given $550,000 to fund 725 area projects.
To view a list of projects funded for the 2016-2017 school year, visit
http://bit.ly/2cmAjK3
To make a gift to Beyond the Books in appreciation of a teacher, visit
http://bit.ly/2cmA4hO
The 2017-2018 grant winners will be announced in May.
Instead of the same old teacher gifts, this year honor your teachers with a do-nation to Beyond the Books.
