The new Porsche design boutique in Oak Brooks, Illinois (USA), has installed the ultracompact surfacing material Dekton, Domoos colour, in the exterior façade.

In conceptualizing the Porsche Design boutique in Oak Brook, architect Eric Styer of DXU Architecture sought a façade material that would embody the client’s design philosophy and that would set it apart from adjacent storefronts in an upscale retail development.

The design concept required a material that would achieve a minimalist, homogenous look, with understated detailing. Key considerations such as budget, performance and aesthetic eliminated initial materials including stone, tile and fiber cement board.

However, the zero-porosity, UV and freeze/thaw resistance, and dimensional stability characteristics of Dekton® made the material an ideal solution for the installation.

PROJECT #1: TANDRUPKOLLEGIET

KANT Arkitekter selected CUPACLAD® for his project Tandrupkollegiet, a modern youth housing partly founded by the Ministry of Welfare, and carried out between 2009 and 2012.

Sustainability was especially important for the Danish architects. “We wanted to create a compact building using materials with a good life-cycle assessment”, they explain.

Page 19: Stone from Spain Projects

PROJECT #1: TANDRUPKOLLEGIET

In fact, the architects selected very specific materials such as white expanded metal as railing, concrete balconies, and CUPA PIZARRAS natural slate, following their decision to take a contemporary design.

Page 20: Stone from Spain Projects

PROJECT #1: TANDRUPKOLLEGIET

“We chose CUPA PIZARRAS natural slate because it looks great!”, says Anders Bay Holm and Uffe Bay-Smidt, co-directors of Kant Arkitekter.

Page 21: Stone from Spain Projects

PROJECT #1: TANDRUPKOLLEGIET

The key concepts of the project design were based on “natural slate blocks with white balconies cut into the slate”.

Page 22: Stone from Spain Projects

PROJECT #1: TANDRUPKOLLEGIET

The project focuses on the needs of young people, and the objective was to maximize the residential square meters of every apartment.

PROJECT #2: ALMEN BOLIG +

ONV Architects, in cooperation with Scandi Byg, have developed a new economic housing concept: AlmenBolig+.

Page 29: Stone from Spain Projects

PROJECT #2: ALMEN BOLIG +

The concept has been applied in seven locations around Denmark. The reason for the development of AlmenBolig+ is that new traditional buildings have become very expensive, both in terms of building and operating costs.

Page 30: Stone from Spain Projects

PROJECT #2: ALMEN BOLIG +By thinking of new and unconventional ways of building they managed to reduce costs considerably, allowing for this apartments to be offered from approximately 1000 €/m2 (7500 DKK/m2).

Page 31: Stone from Spain Projects

PROJECT #2: ALMEN BOLIG +

CUPA PIZARRAS natural slate was amongst the chosen materials due to its high durability and easy installation process. The dwellings were mainly distributed in two floors and offered in four sizes: 85 m2, 93 m2, 104 m2 and 125 m2. AlmenBolig+” buildings were designed with a focus on energy saving and sustainability
