I’m so glad you found my addition and subtraction word

problems to be of value to your classroom. I promise they

won’t let you down! I was SO impressed when my kiddos

mastered these so quickly. They knew the format and what

was expected of them within each box. They also learned

valuable aspects that will help them as they transition into

forms of standardized tests. For instance, they know there

is more than one way to find the answer, the answer should

restate what you were finding ie. there are 5 apples.

-One new aspect to the problems would be a number line!

I’m very excited about adding this to the problems. Below

is how I teach using the number line.

Sam has 5 blue dinosaurs in his toy box. Sam gave 2 blue dinosaurs to his sister. How many dinosaurs does Sam have left?

Farmer Brown has 4 horses. Farmer Brown gave Suzie Q 1 horse. How many horses does Farmer Brown have left?

Jack’s Mom put 5 red apples in the bowl. Jack ate 2 apples. How many apples are left in the bowl?

There were 4 frogs sitting on the lily pad. All 4 frogs jumped off the lily pad. How many frogs are left?
