Narration:What do these individuals have in common? They play sports. They are professional athletes. They make a lot of money. All those are correct, but not the answer I was looking for.

Narration:They all have put up some amazing numbers in their sports and have set records along the way. Let’s take a look at one of sports greatest if not the greatest athlete of all time. Insert Drum Roll Sounds Can you guess who it is??

Narration: Did you guess it correctly??..Michael Jordan...a former American basketball player who put up some big numbers during his time. For example, Jordan finished with 29 Career Triple Doubles, 840 Consecutive games of Double figure scoring, Scored 50 or more points 37 times, Scored 60 or more 5 times, He is only the 4th player to win a world championship and scoring title in the same year, His career high was 69 points. But how did it all begin? Let’s look closer!!

Narration:Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up and played his high school ball in Wilmington, North Carolina. He developed a competitive edge at an early age and wanted to every game he played. Jordan used this mentality to put up some great numbers in college.

Narration:Michael Jordan attended the University of North Carolina where he played for 3 years. He averaged 19 points, 5 and a half rebounds, and shot over 50% from the floor. He made the winning shot his freshman year during the NCAA National Championship in 1982.

Narration:Due to Jordan’s efforts, he was ACC Freshman of the Year in 82, he was a 2 time Consensus All-American and College Player of the year in 83 & 84, He walked away winning the John Wooden Award and Adolph Rupp Trophy in 84. 84 was a GREAT YEAR! All the numbers he put in college and his accomplishments earned him a spot in the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame!

Narration:On comes the NBA! The Chicago Bulls drafted Jordan with the 3rd overall pick in the 1984 draft. The best decision the franchise ever made! The team made the playoffs and Jordan won the Rookie of the Year award while averaging 28.2 points per game. He was selected to his 1st All-Start Game in only his 1st year!!

Narration: Jordan was breaking new ground on the court and during the 86-87 season. He became the first player since Wilt Chamberlin to score more than 3,000 points in a single season. He received his 1st Most Valuable Player NBA award. The Bulls made it to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1990 and won their first of 3 straight NBA championships!! Jordan then briefly called it quits and retired due to a personal reason.

Narration: While in retirement from basketball, Jordan decided to play baseball (don’t look up those numbers!!). For that same reason, he decided to come back. Once he returned in 1995, he was ready to began his second quest at NBA Championships. Later that season, in 1996 he was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.

Narration: Jordan and his team would win another set of 3 Championships. Bringing the total to 6 for his career. Jordan went on to be a 5 time League MVP and a 6 time Finals MVP. He has the most NBA Scoring titles. He has made the All-NBA First team 10 times, All-NBA Defensive First Team 9 times, and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 88. He is a 2 time Slam Dunk Champion, winning in 87 & 88, a 14 time All-Star Selections, and a 3 time All-Start Game MVP. Jordan also led NBA in Steals 3 times and is 3rd on the all time list.

Narration:I’m not done yet, please bare with me. He is the second fastest to reach 20,000 points. Holds the highest career scoring average at 31.5 pts per game in the regular season and 33.4 in the playoffs. He ranks 3rd all time in career points at 29,277 and 1st (there’s that first again!!) in the playoffs at 5,987. He holds many other playoff records, steals with 376, free throws made at 1,463. He doesn’t only score, he ranks 4th all time in playoff assists with 1,022.

He is Chicago’s Career Leader in Points (27,262), Assist (5,012), Rebounds (5,836), Steals (2,306), Minutes (35,887), Field Goals Made (10,962), Field Goals Attempted (21,686), Free Throws Made (6,798), Free Throws Attempted (8,115), and Games Played (930).

Narration: Not only did Jordan rule the NBA, but he also won 2 Olympic gold medals internationally, in 1984 & 1992. If you were listening, I mentioned 84 was a great year! During that summer, Jordan made his first appearance at the Olympics. As a member of the U.S. Olympic basketball team, he won the gold at the games that year. and later helped the American team bring home the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games. That team came to be known as “The Dream Team”.

Narration: I forgot to mention, Michael Jordan also won the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year award. He was Rank No.1, No. 1 by SLAM Magazine's Top 50 Players of All-Time and by ESPN Sportscentury's Top 100 Athletes of the 20th century. Although 1 isn’t a big number, it is ultimately what you should strive to be!! Here you see MJ at the podium of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He was inducted in the Class of 2009.

Narration: When it’s all said and over with, all the mentioned numbers make up a career which will never be broken or matched. But you know what they say, records are meant to be broken. If so, who is the next Michael Jordan?...What makes Jordan the best is not just what he did on the court, but also was he was able to accomplish off the court.
