Around 2000 years ago, Jesus rode towardsthe gates of Jerusalem. The crowds had been waiting forHim, knowing that He was on His way. His entry wastriumphant, all around people were crying out 'KING' and theymeant it. They believed that He had come to release themfrom Roman rule, to be an all powerful ruler like the Kings ofold. They could not have been more mistaken, - He had cometo free them, but not from the Romans. The enemy thatfaced the people was the evil that was so much a part ofthemselves, the barrier between them and God.

In JESUS, God broke down that barrier. He came toforgive and forget. "He who believes in the Son has eternallife; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but thewrath of God rests upon Him." (John 3..36)

But they misunderstood. Within a few days the crowds werecrying 'CRUCIFY'. Jesus was betrayed, arrested andsentenced to death. From 'KING' to 'KILL HIM' in a week.He was nailed to a Cross and left to die slowly and in agony.

So, what can this possibly mean to us? The evil that ispart of us separates us from God: because of our rebellionagainst Him we are dead to God. But in His love He sent HisSon to earth to die in our place. "He Himself, bore our sins inHis body on the tree..... (1 Peter 2:24)

If we believe in Jesus Christ and repent of our failures,we will take up a place at His side. Through His death, we willhave eternal life.

If we do not accept Him we will face the wrath of Godand eternal destruction.

We cannot afford to ignore the Easter message.

Ever since John Wesley's "change in the heart"conversion, 250 years ago, hymns have been a key element ofworship in the Methodist movement he fathered. Make hymnsinging "the more acceptable to God, as well as the moreprofitable to yourself and others," he wrote in hisintroduction to Select Hymns.

Among his favourite hymns was "O For a ThousandTongues to Sing," written by his younger brother Charles onthe first anniversary of his own conversion. Like numerousothers from Charles Wesley's pen - he wrote more than 6,000- it remains an inspiration for Methodists around the world, sung on occasions great and small when they meet together togive praise as their first spiritual leader directed.

Sing all. Let not weakness or weariness hinder you. If it is across to you, take it up, and you will find a blessing.

Sing lustily and with a good courage. Beware of singing as ifyou were half dead, or half asleep. Be no moreafraid of your voice now, nor more ashamed of itsbeing heard, than when you sung the songs of Satan.

Sing modestly. Do not bawl, so as to be heard above ordistinct from the rest of the congregation, that you

may not destroy the harmony; but strive to uniteyour voices, so as to make one clear melodious sound.

Sing in time. Whatever time is sung be sure to keep with it.Do not run before nor stay behind it; but attendclose to the leading voices; and take care you singnot too slow. This drawling way naturally steals onall who are lazy; and it is high time to drive it outfrom us.

Above all sing spiritually. Have an eye to God in every wordyou sing. Aim at pleasing Him more than yourself orany other creature. Attend strictly to the sense ofwhat you sing, and see that your heart is not carriedaway with the sound, but offered to God continually;so shall your singing be such as the Lord will approveof here, and reward when he cometh in the clouds ofheaven.

O for a thousand tongues to singMy great Redeemer's praise,

The glories of my God and King,The triumphs of his grace!

My gracious Master and my God,Assist me to proclaim,

To spread through all the earth abroadThe honours of thy name

There werethree

crosses on thehill outsideJerusalem. Inthe middle wasJesus and oneither side ofhim were twothieves.

"He made himself ofno reputation, takingthe form of a servant, and coming in thelikeness of men.

"And being found inappearance as aman, he humbledhimself and becameobedient to the pointof death, even thedeath of the cross."

"He was oppressedand he was afflicted,yet he opened nothis mouth;

He was led as alamb to theslaughter. .. "

"This is what love is:it is not that we haveloved God, but thathe loved us and senthis Son to be themeans by which oursins are forgiven."

"Therefore God alsohas highly exaltedhim and given himthe name which isabove every name,

that at the name ofJesus every kneeshould bow, of thosein heaven, and ofthose on earth, and ofthose under the earth, and that every tongueshould confess thatJesus Christ is Lord."

"Were the wholerealm of nature

mine, that were anoffering far too

small,

Love so amazing,so divine, demands

my soul, my life,my all."
