SOWING SEEDS IN PRE-PREP
In Reception this week the girls have been looking at planting sunflower seeds, beans and looking after plants.
In Years 1 and 2 topic work the children have been comparing sea voyages in the 1400's to the modern day.
A SHAGGY DOG STORY IN ASSEMBLY A very special visitor joined us on Tuesday this week, to the delight of the girls and even the staff. Taking pride of place at the front of Swann Hall, and enjoying every minute of the attention, was Lewis a beautiful golden retriever from Raystede Animal Sanctuary. The assembly was an opportunity to hand over the substantial collection of dog, cat and animal foods that had been collected as part of our Pyramid charity initiatives.
Raystede were most grateful for our donations and hoped
that we would all take the opportunity to visit the centre.
Thank you girls and well done.
TV ROLE FOR KATIE
Katie Hillyer from Year 5, had an enjoyable day last week, filming in Brighton as an extra for a new six-part ITV drama called "The Level". Due to be screened later this year, the drama stars such seasoned actors as, Amanda Burton, Laura Haddock, Philip Glenister and many more. Katie spent the day filming at various locations in Brighton and got to experience the background opera-tion of a TV film set, which she thoroughly enjoyed. It was a great day and gave her valuable experience.

of Key Stage 3 until our system adjusts in September.
I wish to thank all the girls and Old Girls who came to the Lansdowne Club for our annual afternoon tea yesterday. It was a lovely event and a great opportunity for us all to get together. The Old Girl network is of ever increasing
importance for our current girls who need to seek out
every opportunity that such an association can provide. We need our girls to recognize the importance of giving back so that the next generation will continue and develop that tradition. A full report from the event and be in the
next issue of Strands).
I am sure that I will see many parents at the Summer Concert this evening (Friday). As I write this I can hear
the wonderful preparation going on in Swann Hall!

‘FARM TO FORK’ OUTING FOR PRE-PREP
On Tuesday the girls from Pre-Prep visited the Tesco store in Eastbourne as part of their 'Farm to Fork' program. They took part in a variety of activities, challenges and taste tests. They were given a special behind-the-scenes guided tour of the shop including the recycling centre and the freezer! Brrr! We were taken to the bakery, fish counter and fruit and veg area where we completed a 'hands-on' quiz. The girls even received a party bag to go home with, full of healthy recipes and a bread roll baked especially for them in-store! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and cannot wait to go back to participate in one of their other topic-based sessions!
DUKE OF EDINBURGH EXPEDITION
Last weekend the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award girls had their first

LAMBING TIME AT SEVEN SISTERS SHEEP CENTRE
Some of our Boarders enjoyed a day out on Sunday 24 April to
the Seven Sisters Sheep Centre on the South Downs. It holds a
large collection of about 50 sheep breeds, including rare
breeds that are no longer raised by commercial farmers, and a
number of South Down sheep.
The girls had a fantastic day! A special thank you to Miss
Maynard for taking them.
PEDRO PONY JOINS
THE TEAM!
A big Moho welcome to Pedro Pony who has joined our team this week. Pedro is a very smart skewbald Irish Cob who will look after our
girls very well.
He will soon be joining our lessons after a short settling in period.
Our Junior riders are improving in leaps and
bounds! Gymnastic exercises on horseback are
helping them to strengthen their core muscles and
balance. Well done girls!
A MESSAGE FROM MR ASHBY With the first (i)GCSE exam taking place on Tuesday, I would like to wish all of our candidates the very best in their forthcoming examinations. Last night I was privileged to enjoy a lovely time at the Sixth Form dinner where we wished our Year 13 students, in particular, every success for the future and I would like to thank everyone there for their good wishes for my retirement. I am looking forward to this evening’s Summer Concert and hope that many of you will be there to help make it another eventful occasion.
Ellie Mizen, Year 10, recently took part in the Sussex Dance Festival, which showcases dancers aged 5—11 years.
She was awarded four 1st places, one 2nd and one 3rd place.
At the end of the Festival each year, one dancer is chosen, out of everyone to receive the 'Gibraltar International Stage Award'.
This is an opportunity to represent Sussex in Gibraltar at the International Stage Festival.
This year, Ellie was awarded this special prize so she will fly out to Gibraltar next March to represent Sussex!
Well done Ellie, we are so proud of you!
BIG FUTURES EXHIBITION
Last week all of Years 9 & 10 were fortunate to
attend the first ever ‘Big Futures Show’ at the
Winter Gardens in Eastbourne. With around 150
exhibitors, it gave the girls the opportunity to
talk them about future career and employment
opportunities as well as gaining some valuable
experiences. Hopefully, this will help to inspire
the future career decisions of our girls.

THIS WEEK IN SPORTS
U11 & U10 ROUNDERS V SKIPPERS HILL
Our Junior School Rounder's teams played some excellent matches this week against Skippers Hill School. Our U11 team were leading by 6½ rounders to 4½ after a good first innings, with some solid fielding. An excellent second innings, with accurate bowling from Imogen McNaughton-Ely, good attacking running and some exceptional batting, in particular from Stephanie Vieira (6½ rounders) led to a fine victory for
Moira House by 20 rounders to 11.
Stephanie was awarded player of the match. Our U10’s had a close, exciting game, gaining in confidence as the game progressed. Lois Harffey-Burkhill took a good catch; batting is improving and de-cision-making in the field is speeding up. Well done to the U10s’ for winning their match by 12 rounders to
9½.
U13 ROUNDERS V BEDES Moira House U13A team went to Bedes to play their first tournament on Wednesday. We tied as runners up in our group but lost on goal difference. A really promising start to the season with outstanding bowling from Megan Lee, phe-nomenal fielding from Daisy Williams, Lana Harffey-Burkhill and Hannah Ward with extremely strong batting by Maisie Gibbs and Taliah Maidens. This is a very exciting start to the season and we look forward to seeing what the girls have in store for their next match.
U15 ROUNDERS V BEDES
Our U15A girls played a good batting innings with some ex-cellent speedy runs and tactical play. In particular, some outstanding batting play from Esther Palanca Romualdo, Olivia Standing, Amelia Carrington and Raphy McDavitt-Lowe. In the field we started off well with some tight play between Esther Palanca Romualdo, Emily Davison, Millie Garner and Tahlia Winn. Millie Garner made some excellent calls as Captain to guide the team preventing Bedes from scoring early in the innings. Towards the end of the innings the team lost their concentration and with the onset of a sleet blizzard and let Bedes slip away with a more convincing score line than the girls deserved with their earlier efforts. A lesson learned, but well done ladies for
keeping up your spirits and energy.
The U15B team faced a strong Bedes U14 A team. Accurate and fast bowling from Isobelle Barlow kept the Bedes total down and great fielding from Katy Anne Burr at second post helped the team get the best Bedes’ batter out early on in the innings. Bedes scored 11 rounders. Our girls batted well against an extremely strong bowler and recorded a total of
9 and half rounders.
U15 CRICKET V GILDREDGE HOUSE
The first U15 cricket match of the season, was played in wintry conditions and both teams did well to complete the game. We batted first and everyone contributed to our total of 84 for 6 in 16 overs, with Jess Brierley being top scorer. Unfortunately, we only had 7 players available, in-stead of a full team of 8 and having one player missing in the field proved to be crucial. Gildredge House eventually overtook our score with less than 2 overs remaining but on
the whole it was a very promising start to the season.
