Begin with a general idea of what passage isabout. It helps us form a general idea of thetop in your mind



Identifying the point of view of the author—what the writer’s thesis is. What does theauthor propose to write about the topic.

Can be worded:◦ What is the main idea?◦ What is the subject?◦ What is the topic?◦ What would be a good title?



Context is the combination of vocabulary andgrammar that surrounds a word. If you knowthe general meaning of a sentence, you alsoknow the general meaning of the words in the

sentence.



After reading a passage, you will be expectedto answer six to ten question. First, read aquestion and find the important contentwords (nouns, verbs, adjectives). Next, let

your eyes travel quickly over the passage forthe some content words or synonyms of thewords.



You will be expected to select from fourpossible answer the one that’s NOTmentioned in the reading.

Use your scanning skill.



First, find the pronoun in the passage. Thenread the sentence using the four answerchoices in place of pronoun. The meaning ofthe sentence in the context of the passage

will not change when you substitute thecorrect antecedent.



You will be asked to find certain informationin the passage, and identifying it by linenumber
