INSIDE THIS ISSUE

23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

(Colossians 3:23-24)

We had a great Holy Week! I am grateful to everyone who attended; and especially grateful to those who worked so hard to make this week possible.

I dare not name names for fear I will omit someone. However, I thank everyone who provided food. I also thank those who worked in the kitchen. Not only did you serve us; but you cleaned up after us each day! Thanks to those in the AV booth and all our musicians and singers. Each day you helped assure we would hear the Word of God through song. I thank those who worked as ushers and greeters; you extended “southern hospitality” to all our visitors!

I thank those who prepared bulletins and provided bulletin information; you helped us do all things “decent and orderly”. I thank one of our own who brought us the Word of God in a powerful message – a message which called us to wonder what it must have been like at Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem!

In my opinion, all of you worked heartily for the Lord. You were not seeking applause but serving your Lord, so I pray He will indeed reward you for your service.

So often I think, “I’m the guy out front; but I’m certainly not the one making all of this run smoothly.” I am very proud of you, Church! I love the way you work and serve our church and community. I am truly blessed to be your pastor!

2019 Feed the Funnel Mission Project

By: John T. Johnson

Thank you so much to those of you who helped with the Feed the Funnel event on Friday April 5th! Food insecurity and hunger unfortunately affect many of our friends and neighbors. As believers, we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus in reaching out

to those in need. The Feed the Funnel event is designed to allow community members

to be a part of packing a massive number of meals in a short period of time for those in

need. The packaged meals are then distributed by local food banks, churches, etc. A

wealth of information about the program can be found online at www.thepackshack.com

During the event we packed and sealed 26,208 bags, each of which is a meal for four

people. That’s 104,832 meals and they all stay within the local area. In case you haven’t

participated before, here’s how the process works: Numerous assembly stations are set

up with about 5-6 people per funnel. Each person has an ingredient they scoop into the

funnel which dumps into the meal bag. After each person pours in their scoop, a

designated person at the assembly station places the filled bag into a waiting box and

puts a new empty bag under the funnel. This fast paced process takes about 5 seconds

and is repeated continuously.

Helping pack 26,208 meal bags in less than in hour is an experience not to be missed. We’ll keep you posted when next year’s date is set.

New Small Group Starting:

The Rise and Shine small group will meet Monday mornings at 10:00 AM

starting May 20, in the Fellowship Hall. "Before Amen: The Power of a Simple Prayer" by Max Lucado is the

topic. Contact Ann McConnell for more information.

Blessings from Children’s Church

By Terri Birkett

You may think that going to Children’s Church instead of getting to listen to Danny’s sermon is a burden. And, of

course, sometimes my flesh wants to just bask in the sweet worship atmosphere and be taught by our pastor. However,

I know a wild blessing usually awaits me in Children’s Church. (And I can be blessed by Danny’s sermon later since

it’s online!) I think it’s only fair that I share some of those blessings with you.

On Palm Sunday we talked about the fact that, hundreds of years before Jesus, an angel told Daniel when Messiah

would appear to the people, and that Daniel wrote that information down to be found in the Old Testament for anyone

who would read it and figure it out…so that they could be expecting Him. In addition, God put the amazing picture of

Passover in the Old Testament, when the Israelites were saved from death and freed from Egypt by their obedience to

the sacrifice of a perfect lamb and its blood covering, painted on the door of their homes.

We talked about how Palm Sunday would have been the day the people chose their perfect lamb, keeping it for a few

days before slaughtering it for their Passover meal. We mentioned how the Hallel (Psalms 113-118) was written many

years before the specific Passover that Jesus would ride into Jerusalem, but that the people knew it by heart as they

cried it out to Jesus who, for the moment, they proclaimed Messiah. The palm branches and the cry “God save

us” (Ho-Sha-nah in Hebrew) had been used by zealots as signal devices in their efforts to try to throw off the yoke of

Rome, so the people could only use those things outside Jerusalem. (I did not mention that this is because they

represented Jewish nationalism, so the people were proclaiming Jesus a victorious military leader they hoped

for rather than their Savior.) The palm branches, date palm Branches from the Mt of Olives, were forbidden to go into

the city.

And then, we noted how this picture of the Passover Lamb was repeated over and over again (by God’s instructions)

throughout Jewish history so that they would not miss Jesus coming to fulfill the prophetic picture. So, I asked,

“Why did they miss it?” In a flash, a sweet voice, no doubt inspired by the Holy Spirit, answered, “Because they

weren’t paying attention.”

Yes! Jesus is coming again.

Are we paying attention?
