MITS office issues an account to every studentThe account contains one unique User ID and an initial passwordYou can use this account to log on any IT system such as computers, E-mail, File server, Library and so on.

After log in press “Ctrl+Alt+Del”Select “change a password” in the new windowChange the password in the new window

After log in press “Options” on the upper right cornerSelect “Change Your Password”Change the password in the new window

Press “Ctrl+Alt+Del”, the login window will appear.Input username and password, and press “Enter” to complete the login process.

Password securityYour password should be: • at least 7 characters long; • include at least 3 types of the 4 character sets: - Upper case letters (A, B, C, …), - Lower case letters (a, b, c, …), - Numbers(1, 2, 3,…), and - Special characters (Except |, :, space). For example, “Tye9090” is a valid password, but “tye9090” is not since it contains only two types of character.

If you forget your passwordPlease send your XJTLU mail account, XJTLU ID number and photo copy (<5MB) of your XJTLU student ID card and identity card to [email protected] via your personal mailbox. MITS staff will then reset your password.

Student ID cardEvery student is given a student ID card. This card shows your name, photograph and student ID number, and is used as iden-tification on campus.You can use it to• borrow books in library• pay for student self-service printing• pay for canteen meals • take city bus and subway

How do I top up the ID card?The card can be recharged in i Wisdom Lake Customer Service Centre on the east side of the first floor of Suzhou Graduate School of Nanjing University (Monday & Friday) and in Kedi convenience store on XJTLU campus.

If you lose or damage your cardPlease login http://portal.xjtlu.edu.cn/sites/ssp/, find “Student ID Card Replacement” to apply a new one, it will cost 20RMB fee for a new card. It usually takes around one week to issue a new card.

If your card has lost the magnetismFirst, you must go to i Wisdom Lake Customer Service Centre to change a new blank card (transfer money into new card if you have money in pre-vious card), which is free. Second, send your student ID number, name, student account and problem description to [email protected]. Third, go to office 956A Central Building to print the ID card. It may take two days to process your application.

The university provides free wired and wireless network.The campus total bandwidth is 2.8G (IPv4) + 1G (IPv6).

Note:You may experience limited access and slow response while accessing some oversea websites on campus (even in China). That is because of the national firewall policy implemented by the government, not by campus network.

Connect to University’s free Wi-Fi network Search and connect campus wireless SSID (XJTLU) in terminal. Open any web page by browser, the authentication page will be automatically popup. Please login by username and password.

Students are able to access campus intranet resources off-campus by VPN (Virtual Private Net-work).

You can browse https://sslvpn.xjtlu.edu.cn or use client software ‘Aventail VPN’ (Recommendation) to access campus intranet resources with your username and password.

Your email is based on the Microsoft Exchange Server. We use Outlook as desktop client. Outlook is pre-installed as part of Microsoft Office on all PCs in XJTLU.

Mailbox size LimitThe mailbox capacity for student is 500MB.Single attachment max. 20MB

Checking Emails There are two ways to check emails.

Email

• Outlook Microsoft Outlook is the rec-ommended method to man-age your university email. As mailbox size gradually increase, in order to make easier to manage mailbox, you need another location to archive important but not frequently used items.

• Web Access You can use this method on any computer connected to the Internet. Type https://mail.xjtlu.edu.cn/ and input your username and pass-word.

eduroameduroam is the abbreviation for Education Roaming. It is a global Wi-Fi roaming ser-vice agreed by Wi-Fi roaming alliance of global educational and scientific research institutions. The eduroam has covered more than 80 countries around the world of educational and scientific research Institutions.Global wide participants list: http://www.eduroam.orgXJTLU staff and students can use their university account to access free network in all the universities on the list. Choose Wi-Fi SSID “eduroam” and input XJTLU ac-count (e.g. [email protected]) to join the network. Visitors from other universities can choose XJTLU Wi-Fi SSID “eduroam” to obtain XJTLU Wi-Fi service as well.

File Server FTP ServerEach student is provided with 1GB of file storage on the student file server (\\file2). The file store name is the same as your account name. It is strongly recommended that you store your important files there. It is a secure location and is backed up on a daily basis. Every student has full control authority of their named folder on the file server.

There are varieties of ways of accessing file store. At first you should be use your account to login XJTLU domain. •

The FTP server is provided for staff to share large docu-ments with students. The server address is ftp.xjtlu.edu.cn and the port number is 21. Everyone in XJTLU can view or download shared documents on this server using the account “anonymous” with the password “anonymous” within the campus network.

There are two ways to access this server. • FTP client software

• Web browser You can also use browser to access and download.

Storage

Your file store is mapped to the “M:” driver for ease of access when you log onto any domain computer in XJTLU.

You can access it by typing \\file2 or \\file2.xjtlu.edu.cn into the address bar of Windows Explorer. You can also access the server (\\file2) directly. Left click the Start menu, type the server address (\\file2 or \\file2.xjtlu.edu.cn) into the search box, and then press Enter.

For MAC system, please click “Go” on the top menu bar, then choose “Connect to Server”. Input “smb://file2” in the Server Address. Click “Connect” and login with XJTLU account to finish.

It is recommended you download the FileZilla FTP client. Drag the file from Sector 2 to Sector 1 for downloading

SITS e-bridgeSITS is a student information management system used to store, administer and manage all aspects of student information from registration to gradua-tion.

Digital Library

Library OPACICE SystemICE (Interactive Communicative Environment) is an online teaching system.

You can browse http://ice.xjtlu.edu.cn and login by your username and password from campus net-work or off campus.

Registry post notices on ICE and lecturers can cre-ate interactive teaching materials and courseware. Students can browse teaching materials, submit homework, check marks and complete questionnaires online.

XJTLU Library is strategically on its way to become a Digital Library, emphasizing on digital resourc-es produced domestically and in overseas. There are 67 academic electronic databases available on campus which contains more than 50,000 academic journals, 531 classic academic e-books, 2.5 million Chinese e-books, a massive resource of disserta-tions and conference papers. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) provides a book search function, including Search, Top Books, Browsing, New books, Journal, and Sug-gestion, Curriculum, InfoBoard, My Library.

Cxstar is Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University Library Multimedia Database which is a platform to manage the library non-book materials, such as a CD from a book. It integrates the functions of processing, publishing, and browsing for various multimedia resources (including at-tached CD, audio, video, etc.), which could manage and utilize the non-book materials efficiently. It has many features, including resources category browsing, over-view, search and direct employment of various resourc-es.

CRMThe CRM system is intended to help us route en-quiries with prospective students amongst various internal offices and departments and to track our responses and our ability to convert prospective students into registered students. It would not be only for Masters Programmes, but also for interna-tional undergraduate students and for certain co-horts of Chinese national students through autono-mous admissions. It will also be used for managing business engagement, executive education, and alumni relationships.

Student PrintingMITS provides student self-service printing. You may submit your printing jobs from any PCs in the campus computer labs, web page (intranet only) or email. Then, you can get printing by swiping ID card on any campus student self-service printers, which proves to be safer and efficient.

At the beginning of each academic year, the University will credit your account with 90RMB. If your printing quota account balance is overdraft more than 500RMB, the account will be fro-zen. Then you need to send an email (with screenshot of Trans-actions page of Self-Service Print System) to [email protected] to indicate that you want to pay off the overdraft of your account. The overdraft will be deducted from your Service Charge (代办费) account. Your printing account will be released after pay off the overdraft. We will settle the account when students leaving XJTLU.

Computer Labs

1) All PCs in the computer labs are preinstalled Microsoft Windows OS and various software. Students can login as a normal domain user with their unique username and password. 2) All PCs are connected to network and can browse internet freely. 3) All computer labs open from 8:30am to 10:00 pm every day during the academic semester. During the school holiday, most of the labs will be closed. All stu-dents have free access to the labs except if a class, main-tenance work, or event is scheduled.

Computer labs provide service for those who use computers for learning, not for other purpose. Self-study is expected not to affect the scheduled class. All students’ belongings in computer labs should be cleared by themselves when labs close at 22:00. The University takes no responsibility for loss or damage to items who leaves in computer labs. Foods or drinks are prohibited in the computer labs. Any unauthorized acts to the equipment are forbidden, do not taking any peripherals like net-work cable, mouse, and keyboard. Software could installed by IT staff only, do not install any software by your own. No tampering for any of the system file Keep the voice down, making the movements smoothly and quietly. Mobile phones must be switched to silence mode and step outside for making or answering a call. Keep clean and neat, leave yourself and others a nice environment. Please remember to log off when you leave. For any failure of hardware or software, please report to MITS Office by http://service.xjtlu.edu.cn or 88161250.

Many kinds of academic teaching software installed in computer lab. Students can use that software in computer labs of university. Software list for student in computer labs

SRS is based on Wi-Fi connection. Partici-pants are able to respond to polling ques-tions through their smartphone, tablet or computer through an app or web browser. All subscriptions include mobile responding capabilities which provide immediate, full access to engage and interact in the learning process.

Campus Media Centre XJTLU Media Centre is designed to make it easy for you to upload existing media content like AVI, MPEG, QuickTime, WAV etc., and for these to be encoded for streaming delivery, currently RealMedia, H.264/AAC and MP3 in a Flash player.

The content on Media Centre is sorted by individual purpose, and managed by individual administrator. The content can be viewed in the Media Centre site http://media.xjtlu.edu.cn, or in external sites (a Virtu-al Learning Environment for example), so users are not required to login directly to the Media Centre. You should get the approval from the category administrator, if you want to upload content to Media Centre, even if you want to view some content on Media Centre.

As a member of the university students, you are responsible for the data you handle. Although the university take meas-ures to protect the IT environment, it is important that all students help contribute to this process.

Avoiding installing the personal network equipment on campus by you, such as wireless AP, router, and switch;

And please avoiding installing any illegal software in the University’s computers.

Please call Student IT Service Desk at 8816 7700 if you have such requests.

All the computers of XJTLU are pre-installed with Symantec Endpoint Protection. This software will protect your computer from virus and intrusion software.

Email Spam

Other Security Tips

XJTLU email anti-spam system filters spam automatically.

User will receive notification about quaran-tined suspicious spam from [email protected] and decide whether to open the email in the quarantined area or not.

We recommend user must check spam no-tification because some useful mail may be blocked by spam system. If user find useful mail is blocked in SPAM area, it is easy to do:1. to click links in email or open https://spam.xjtlu.edu.cn to access Anti-Spam web interface. Select the useful mail and click the “release” to release it. The system will add the email address to whitelist and does not block it any more in future.2. to add white list manually directly in system so these mail address will not be blocked forever.

• Before leaving the computer lab, don’t forget to log off. This helps ensure that you are the only user of the system through your XJTLU account.

• Avoid visiting unknown websites or downloading from un-trusted sources.

• Avoid Phishing scams – beware of suspicious emails or attachments.

• Protect your personal information. Only share personal information with sources you trust.

IT services for students which include but not limited to:Help students install software and solve basic computer problems.

IT Service Centre is the first contact win-dow for IT campus service. It is located at 956A Central Building and open from 9:00am – 5:00pm every weekday. TEL: 0512-88161250.

The Service Request System (OTRS) is a point of contact interface between the service offices and users (Workflow as shown above). We recommend you use the OTRS system to submit requests. There are three ways to submit requests: 1.
