Dear student,

I congratulate all the students who have opted for Vignana Bharathi Institute of Technology to pursue their engineering education. The institution has come a long way since its inception in 2004. In the last one year the college has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation and received permanent affiliation status by the JNTUH. VBIT is a technical institution which strives for the overall development of each of the students. Every activity at the institution is planned meticulously to benefit the students in their professional career. The institution provides excellent academic ambience and maintains stringent levels of discipline. Highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty handle classes and laboratories. The laboratories are fully equipped and modernized, so that the students perform the experiments and learn the concepts. In addition, in order to make the students acquainted with the latest development in their respective fields, Audio Visual classes, seminars, guest lectures and industrial visits are arranged on a regular basis. A teacher counseller is appointed for every 20 students to guide them, monitor their academic performance, attendance, regularity in submission of records and prepare the students to perform well in exams. VBIT is ragging-free zone. No stone is kept unturned to maintain discipline and several programms are conducted to inculcate good values through lectures by eminent persons. The ultimate objective of the institution is to mould each student perfectly in academics and discipline so that he/she could serve the society as a good citizen.

In order to familiarize the students with all rules and regulations of the university with respect to admission, courses, facilities, examination etc., comprehensively a hand book is distributed for their exclusive use. I am very sure that the book would serve the purpose and would be very useful to the student.

I hope that the students will have a fruitful and happy stay at the college and all of us here wish them all the best in their pursuit to become quality Engineering Professionals.

WELCOME NOTE

XI. Tutorials, Seminars, Assignments and Audio-Visual classes The prescribed syllabus of the University is taught in the regular scheduled classes. In order to provide wider scope and the application of a given module I topic, the students are taught in a separate open forum generally described as tutorial. The tutorial classes are expected to deal with the analytical and material strengths for a given module / topic and essentially the thorough understanding in the form of applications should be the output. This requires the appropriate subject strengths, planning and the deep concentration from both student and faculty. The student should also be able to work for various approaches to verify the outputs from a given unit / module. Conceptually tutorials were introduced to promote and cultivate the research approaches in student as well as faculty. Therefore, each faculty is required to work precisely with advance preparation to enforce the above concepts in an effective manner. q Each class will have 1 tutorial hour per week (per subject). q Separate tutorial sheets will be provided to the students.q Students should solve the tutorial problems only on these sheets. q Each tutorial will be assessed and graded by faculty based on performance.

Proportionally the weightage will be added in internal marks. q At least one Assignment will be given based on 4 units which has to be submitted on

the separate sheets provided to the students. Maximum of 5 marks will be given for these assignments.

q Audio-Visual classes are conducted (2 classes per a week) regularly in well equipped AV rooms. This approach enhances the students knowledge of the subject in a more practical manner.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CELL

Conceptual teaching along with research and development makes the institute unique and provides an opportunity to produce competent and employable engineers. VBIT has been on this track to orient its environment for this novel model by tracking the current technological and industrial trends. R & D is being guided by the experts from Academic, Industry, and Research. Talks by these are also being arranged by the department. A few of the important Labs are Digital Systems Development Lab, Software Development Lab, Design Automation Lab, Virtual Instrumentation Labs, and Systems Modeling and Simulation Labs.

The output from these developments is that, the in-house student projects are guided by the faculty, researchers and experts from industry. The faculty members are also trained in the current technological and research trends.

In this sojourn, VBIT is able to realize the environmental improvement in a phased manner for the establishment of a Research and Consultancy Center. The R&D cell is headed by Dr.Gopa Dutta who herself is the principal investigator of two projects in the field of Space Physics sponsored by Indian Space Research Organization. Research & Development cell is leading ahead with few more project proposals submitted to various agencies like DST, MOES for independent funding

The projects successfully completed under Research and Development cell are,

1) A campaign to investigate middle atmospheric structure and dynamics including exchange processes over Indian tropical region (8.5° N, 8.7° N, 13.5° N, 17.2° N) using high altitude balloon data, radar and LIDER observation.

2) Long term trends of atmospheric oscillations and their relationship with solar variability.

A new project has recently been sanctioned to the R&D center titled “Stratosphere-Troposphere Coupling Through Observations of Ozone and Water Vapour: Transport effects on the Vertical Distribution of Ozone” by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India fir the next three years
