INTRODUCTIONThe International University (IU) is the first public International University of Vietnam and a member of Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City (VNU). The IU is currently striving to become a prestigious research institution and training high quality human resources for the country. SCHOOL OF BUSINESSThe School of Business is a part of International University which offers fully English

Business courses for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

As English is the school language, all courses in undergraduate and graduate programs as well as for all related training courses and research disciplines of SB are taught fully in English.

The Twinning Programs with oversea universities at Undergraduate level:

Oversea degrees: awarded by partner universities for students who complete one or first two years at IU and the rest of program at partner universities

COURSE DESIGNBachelor of Business Administration Program is designed with consideration of students’ English level which is estimated on TOEFL and TOEFL IBT score. There are 3 levels as

• AE1: 500 ≤ TOEFL ≤ 549 (≈ 61 ≤ TOEFL IBT ≤ 78 OR 6.0 ≤ IELTS < 6.5 )

English level 2:

• IE4: 461 ≤ TOEFL ≤ 499 (≈ 49 ≤ TOEFL IBT ≤ 60 OR 5.5 ≤ IELTS < 6)

• IE3: 418 ≤ TOEFL ≤ 460 (≈ 36 ≤ TOEFL IBT ≤ 48 OR 5.0 ≤ IELTS < 5.5)

English level 3:

• IE2: 374 ≤ TOEFL ≤ 417 (≈ 24 ≤ TOEFL IBT ≤ 35 OR 4.0 ≤ IELTS < 5)

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The expected learning outcomes of BA program are:

a. Knowledge: possess a solid body of knowledge relevant to the area of business, appreciate changes and dynamics in the broad range of environments, and comprehend the applications of business administration knowledge focusing on one of four concentrations: Business Management, International Business, Marketing, and Finance and Banking.

b. Political perspective: understand fundamentally the structure and principles of Vietnamese political system and its orientation.

c. Analytical skills: demonstrate an ability to apply appropriate quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques, relevant conceptual frameworks, and general knowledge in one’s majors to draw valid conclusions and provide recommendations.

d. Communication skills: demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively by using appropriate communication methods to both domestic and international audiences.

e. Critical Thinking skills: understand issues in multi perspectives, interpret information effectively, and give sound judgment.

f. Technology skills: apply effectively and efficiently appropriate techniques to business and communication settings.

g. Ethical Attitude at Work: develop an awareness of the ethical dimensions of communication, behavior, and decision making at workplaces.

h. Cognitive Ability and Perspectives on Globalization: be sensitive of opportunities and challenges of globalization; be responsive to cross-cultural issues that influence business operations in a global context so as to take advantages of global opportunities and overcome challenges.

Internship time: Students can take internship in the following time:• Summer of Year 3• Year 4: Semester 7 or semester 8

Duration of Internship:• Part-time: 4 months with at least 32 working days (2 days/ week)• Full-time: 2 months with at least 32 working days (4 days/ week)

Other regulations:• If a student takes a full-time internship in summer, he/ she can take one course

during that period• If student takes a full-time internship in year 4 (semester 7 or 8), he/ she can take

ACADEMIC REGULATIONS

1. Course registration

Students should register a minimum of 12 credits in one semester, except for the last semester.

• Students should register a maximum of 24 credits in one semester, except for the last semester, for those who have cumulative GPA >=65

• The subject registration form must be approved by the academic advisors.

o For exceptional cases, students must file for the consideration of the Dean of School.

2. Adding and dropping courses

In the first week of teaching, based on their timetables, ability and learning conditions, students can file for adding and dropping courses.

3. Requirements to attend tests and final examinations

• In the event that absence occurs more than 20% out of required class attendance, the student will be prohibited from final examination attendance, and the score of zero will be recorded.

• On the examination date, the student who is late from 15 minutes onwards will not be allowed to enter the test/examination room and the score of zero will be recorded.

4. Incomplete grade (I)

Used by academic instructors for incomplete work of students for sufficient reasons by the end of a course or of a semester

A student will receive an incomplete grade on the following conditions:

- Attended classes, taking mid-term tests, working on subjects in lab sections, and practicing.

- Paid the tuition for that semester

- Got leave of absence for mid-term tests, and the final examination (due to illness, accidents…)

• The below procedures must be completed:

- Students will receive Incomplete grade (I) when filing document to be properly submitted to the instructor of the course. With the course instructor’s and the Dean’s approval, the Office of Academic Affairs will decide whether a student is eligible for an I grade.

- Students happening to get sick or for some reasons cannot take an exam must file

- The appropriate document of sufficient reasons with evidence to the Office of Academic Affairs within three days of the examination date.

- For special cases, students file the appropriate document to the Dean who will suggest to the Board of Rectors for their approval In order to remove incomplete grade, students need to file a proper form to retake the course examination. If students do not get enough grades for their performance evaluation by the end of the next academic year, the Incomplete is changed to an F (zero point) for grade point computation.

EN007IU & EN008IU - Academic English 1 (R) 4 creditsThis course concentrates on academic English listening and writing skills.Strategies for Academic Listening, Note-taking, and Discussion will help the student face the challenges of learning English in an Academic environment. The student will learn to do all the things that successful international college students do – listen actively to lectures, take effective notes, and participate confidently in discussions about the lecture with classmates and the lecturer. While learning these strategies, you will also learn and use common academic vocabulary as well as useful idioms.Writing skills are developed for pre-advanced academic writers. It focuses on composition writing using Writing process, Building Framework, Description, Opinion, Process, Comparison-Contrast, Cause-Effect, Problem-Solution, and Argument. Students will have writing practice in “Real-World Writing” formats.

EN011IU & EN012IU - Academic English 2 (R) 4 creditsThis course concentrates on academic English speaking and writing skills. Speaking subject provides students with the skills to be able prepare and deliver effective formal, structured presentations that are appropriate to the specific environment and audience.Writing subject provides an overview of the organizational format for a research paper and assists students in completing research projects in any content area course by providing assistance in writing effective research papers using a step-by-step process approach. Course content includes the components of a research paper, and techniques of selecting and narrowing topics; writing thesis statements; outlining; locating and documenting sources; taking notes; writing introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions; and writing rough and final drafts. In a world, the trend of global trade is increasingly vital, WEG is an imperative for all who wish to know what is happening to their global economy. Course gives the very basic concepts and terms in studying economic geography. In economic aspects, it concerns: the varied ways of people earning, the patterns of human activities to produce, the distributed and consumed good and services, and the geographic framework of world trade and business. The lectures will have an emphasis on geographic changes in the world economy. We will examine the geographic organization of economic activity around the world at different geographical scales (global, regional and local) as well as the relationship between geographic conditions and economic development in different states. Course requires critical thinking on current economic and social problems from a geographic perspective.

BA220IU - Working Capital Management (E) 3 creditsThis course is designed as a high level undergraduate finance course and is built on the principles of the course Financial Management (BA016IU). It introduces the management of short-term or current account of the firm to optimize the risk/return profile, and covers in-depth the concepts and techniques of managing account receivables, inventories and corporate cash, forecasting and planning short-term investment and financing, and application of NPV concepts to various aspect of corporate working capital functions.
