The Univerity of Manitoba is home to a wide variety of programs and services that are available to assist students in the health professional
faculties. This section highlights some of these services.
The University of Manitoba has two major campus locations. While the Bannatyne campus is home to most of the professional health faculties and related services (including CAHE), the Fort Garry campus serves as the central body of the university.
If you have any questions about services or programs that are available at the university, staff at the Centre for Health Education are available to help.
Libraries: The UM Libraries offer a variety of services, including e-journals, document delivery/inter-library loans, group study space, computer labs and remote access. Seminars on subjects such as doing more effective literature searches or general orientations to the library system are offered periodically, but students may also arrange individual or group instruction with reference librarians. The Neil John Maclean (NJM) Health Sciences Library, located on the second floor of Brodie Centre at the Bannatyne campus, houses the Aboriginal Health Collection, which includes books, reports, videos and electronic resources. More information is available at: http://umanitoba.ca/libraries/units/health/aboriginal/index.html.
In addition to the NJM library, there are eight other units that comprise the health sciences libraries at the University of Manitoba:
• Bill Larson Library (Grace General Hospital)
• Carolyn Sifton-Helene Fuld Library (St. Boniface General Hospital)
• Concordia Hospital Library
• J.W. Crane Memorial Library (Deer Lodge Centre)
• Misericordia Health Centre Library

Academic Supports
Virtual Learning Commons: The VLC is a web-based environment that provides learning resources and tools designed to help undergraduate, graduate and international students successfully complete their studies:
The Assignment Manager provides a step-by-step guide to a number of common tasks that a student might encounter, including writing a term paper, preparing for
an exam, or making a presentation. Based on a start and completion date, the Assignment Manager designs a schedule to meet each step in the process of completing that task and provides resources to aid in the completion of each step.
The Online Writing Tutor allows students to submit a sample of a writing difficulty or writing problem and have a tutor hired by the Learning Assistance Centre provide feedback or advice.
Workshops lists upcoming workshops and tutorials, and allows students to register for them online.
The social networking component of the Virtual Learning Commons provides users of the site opportunities to connect with each other, and form social networks and communities of practice. The VLC is also a link to other university services for students.
http://www.umanitoba.ca/virtuallearningcommons/
Learning Assistance Centre: The Learning Assistance Centre (LAC) serves graduate and undergraduate, full and part-time students at the University of Manitoba.
