The Charity Committee This term the charity committee will be collecting food for families that

can’t afford it. The food collected will be donated to Sparkhill food bank.

The foods that could be included are mentioned below. In the upcoming

week a box will be allocated to each form. Each form will be able to con-

tribute to the food bank by donating the foods listed, by placing products

in the given box. We will be collecting the food bank donations for each

year group on different dates:

Tuesday 8th December 2015 - Years 7s

Wednesday 9th December 2015 - Year 8s

Thursday 10th December 2015 - Year 9s

Friday 11th December 2015 - Year 10s & Year 11s

Teaching & Learn-ing committee The teaching and learning committee

looked at the possible changes to the

uniform.

We looked through samples and col-ours and came up with 3 possible op-tions. These options will now be passed onto SLT for approval.:

Option 1: - Grey skirt and trousers - Jumper = prefect colour with grey or silver trim - Tie = prefect colour with silver or grey strips - Blazer = black or grey but we pre-ferred the grey - Shirt = white or grey, open neck with-out a tie or non open neck with a tie - Swan logo (3rd) - Headscarf = black Option 2: - Black blazer - Grey skirt and trousers - Black jumper with prefect colour trim - Same tie as option 1 Option 3: GREEN OPTION - Grey skirt and trousers - Tie = main colour green with silver strip and prefect colour strip - Green jumper with prefect colour trim - White shirt (open neck or not ?) - Blazer = grey/white trim (colour?)

Eco Committee

We work to improve the environment at Swans-hurst and also seek to re-duce the impact that our school community has on the planet. We will be addressing the issue of gum being left on the floor as this would also be part of the larger scheme the council is trying to do across the UK of "bin it your way" . We have de-cided to do a representa-tion of the gum by choos-ing an area in school with the most gum and have a stall showing the pupils the gum. We will be en-couraging form reps to try and interact wit their form by asking them to look un-derneath the desk just to have a big realisation of the gum around us. We will also email a Power-Point to form tutors re-garding this matter.

Community Committee

This committee is responsible for everything linked to the Swanshurst Community - this could be within the school it-self but we also work with the wider community including parents, local residents and our primary feeder schools.

A Performing arts evening will take place where the com-mittee will have part of the area to put up some activities about the community and some cake sales. The part will be at 5pm which will include the following stalls: Musicians, face paints, cakes, refreshments, raffle, Tombola, henna and face painting.

A day with the Police! “On Tuesday the 29th of November, all of the year 8 ambassadors were invited to Edgbaston West Mid-land Police Station. We had a day of learning about charities linked to the police and asked the police, themselves, questions, as well as learning about the impacts of peer pressure. When we arrived, we originally got split up from our schools and had charity representatives come round to our tables. I was on table 2. First, I had a women inform our table about domestic violence. It was very informative, as we had to rate what we looked for, for a perfect relationship. We then discussed why we made the choices that we did. After around half an hour on domestic violence, my table’s representatives switched. And were replaced by two men informing us about drugs and alcohol and the reasoning behind why people take them. We categorized the three different types of drugs and went through different ideas of why people get involved with the money taking pharmaceutical. the positives and negatives of peer pressure. Year 8 ambassadors at a “Young Persons Question Time” event

organized by West Midlands Police.

As well as how it co-insides with knife crime. The idea of what the two peoples' story and their positions now, makes you really look back on how lucky we are. Lunch commenced with a buffet full of food. This was the time where we thought about the day so far. For the afternoon, once lunch had ended, we had a Q+A with several members of the police. The question ranged from current affairs to 'What is the scariest take down you've been in? Allowing the Police to voice their views on current affairs. Overall it was a great experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Other Projects Include:

Enrichment - The current clubs available have been all put on one

document and which day they occur on and have been emailed to

HOY’S who will pass it on to form tutors and also a paper version for

the class notice board. If there are any other clubs you would like to

see as part of the school then make a list of at least 20 people who will

take part and pass it onto us via email or if you see us around school.

Prayer room—There are currently ongoing discussions about a prayer

room, once this is finalised form tutors will be aware and will let you

know.
