• IS are embarking on a project which aims to deliver a pilot Mobile Campus within the University of Edinburgh.

• £40K is from Student Experience funding …learning/evaluation exercise with an exit strategy

• Time and location sensitive mobile application for students– Where is the nearest shuttlebus to Kings Buildings– Which computer currently has a free PC to use– I wonder if that library book is available to reserve just now– I need directions to my exam hall this morning

app which provides seamless access to a range of existing University services and information.

• Improve Students Experience providing easy access to key information and services

• Work with tried and tested supplier’s hosted package, to speed up delivery and our understanding of this new technology

• Improve reputation of University

• Allow the students to choose how, when and where they access services

• Re-use existing golden copy information

• Develop web services which can also be used outside of the mobile campus. A complimentary approach to web and portal frameworks.

• Learn about mobile applications

• One of the aims of our project is to capture requirements for a Mobile Campus at Edinburgh.

• We wanted to know – how many students have smartphones– what we need to support to deploy native apps – do students use them for accessing the internet– what services the students wanted most
