  • How do I Qualify for a Student Visa?

    • Ties to Nepal

    • Sufficient financial resources

    • Qualified to pursue the course of study

  • INTENT

    • Intent is the state of a person’s mind that directs

his or her actions toward a specific object or goal.

    • We are required by U.S. immigration law to

presume you intend to immigrate to the United States permanently. You must overcome this

    presumption during your interview.

    • Common sense will dictate if an applicant’s intent

is consistent with the purpose of the visa.

    • If you have well thought through plans, your intent

will be obvious; if you don’t have clear and

consistent plans, your intent may be suspect.

  • Intent to Study During your interview, you must demonstrate that

you are a genuine student and that you are

qualified for your program of study.

    • Acceptance to a school and/or a valid I-20 alone

are NOT sufficient evidence of the intent to study.

    • Past academic performance (based on

    transcripts).

    • Information about the school, why you chose the

school, and about the program of study.

    • Be sincere – do not come with a memorized

    speech.

  • Intent to Return

During your interview, you must demonstrate that

you have the intent to return to Nepal, or otherwise

leave the United States, at the completion of your

    program of study.

    • A student visa is a non-immigrant visa valid only for

the period of study indicated on your I-20.

    • Clear career plans consistent with your program of

    study.

    • Strong economic, social, and family ties in Nepal.

  • Ability to Pay During your interview, you must demonstrate that

you, your family, or your sponsor has sufficient funds

to cover the cost of your intended program of study,

    including living expenses.

    • We are required by law to rely on the figures on

    your I-20.

    • College tuition and living expenses in the United

States can cost 60 lakh NPR or more per year!

    • Most American families struggle to pay college

    tuition costs.

  • Qualified for a visa? If, after reviewing your documents and interviewing

you, the Consular Officer determines you are

qualified for a student visa under U.S. immigration

    law:

•There is a $200 reciprocity fee that must be paid at

the Embassy prior to issuing the visa.

(The Nepal Government charges American students

in Nepal this so we charge you the same amount.)

    • Your visa will likely be ready to pick up after two

business days. However, some cases require

    additional administrative processing.

  • Appointment Tips

    • Make your appointment well before your

    anticipated travel date.

    • You do not need to wait until your visa has expired

to make a nonimmigrant visa appointment.

    • You do not need a machine readable passport

  • The Interview

    • Bring the required documents. Make sure they are

    original, complete, signed, and dated.

    • DO NOT BRING FAKE DOCUMENTS: we work closely

with the Nepal Police to prosecute document

    vendors.

    • DO NOT LIE: if you lie about one thing, the

Consular Officer may not trust that you’re telling

    the truth about anything else.

  • Interview Tips

    • Plan your travel and visa application as far in

    advance as possible

    • Complete your application fully and accurately

    • Arrive prepared for your interview by being able

to articulate clearly and concisely your intentions

    • The only “wrong” answer is a dishonest one

  • REMEMBER

    • Remember: You alone are responsible for the

accuracy of the information in your application.

Intentionally submitting false information either on

the application or during the interview can lead to

a finding of a permanent ineligibility for any type

    of visa.

    • We recommend against using educational

consultancies to prepare documents or interview

    strategies.

  • Waiting Room Tips

    Do not bring:

    • electronic devices (including cell phones, tablet

    computers, laptops, MP3 players, games)

    • weapons

    • large bags or containers

    Do Bring:

    • a snack or beverage

    • reading material

    • patience

  • What rules apply to my Student Visa?

In order to use your student visa legally, you must:

    • Apply no more than 120 days prior to the start

    date of your program

    • Arrive in the U.S. no more than 30 days prior to

    the start of your studies

    • Be in continuous full-time student status

    • Depart the U.S. no more than 30 days (M or J) or

60 days (F) after study ends

  • When do I need a new Student Visa?

You need to renew your student visa if:

    • You have been outside of the U.S. for more than

    5 months

    • You need to return to the U.S. and your student

    visa has expired

    • You need to return to the U.S. after receiving a

new I-20 with a different SEVIS number

  • May I work with an F1 Visa?

    • It depends…

    • On campus only, 20 hrs./week maximum

    • Spouses and minor children with F-2 visa status are

not authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Customer Service

    • We strive to facilitate travel for

    qualified applicants and legitimate

    travelers quickly, efficiently, and in

    accordance with U.S. immigration

    law.

    • If you are a student, we will make

every effort to ensure that you get

an appointment and, if qualified, a

visa in time to start classes.
