Q. Are there social opportunities and/or trips for the students?

A. RRIS organizes a wide variety of social and cultural activities for all the students on campus, including Study Abroad students. Throughout the academic year the school hosts cultural events, performances, film screenings, educational tours, meetings, social gatherings and more. Study Abroad students are invited to participate in events organized by the IDC Student Union, Hillel and the OU-JLIC (Orthodox Union Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus). There is an Orientation Week before classes begin where students have an opportunity to meet other RRIS students and get acculturated to IDC and Israel.

Q. What kind of supervision is provided for students?

A. Study Abroad students, as well as all first-year RRIS students, are given a peer counselor. Peer counselors are second or third year students, bilingual in both English and Hebrew, and have experience in youth movements, camps, youth guidance and training. Peer counselors are responsible for contacting incoming students before the school year begins, as well as maintaining communication and guidance throughout the year. We also offer psychologists on campus, a Career Center and a writing center to help students with anything they may need.

Q. What kind of classes can students take?

A. As a Study Abroad student you will be able to choose courses from most of IDC’s schools and build a tailor-made schedule according to your interests and academic requirements. Following admission, Study Abroad students will work with an academic advisor to build a personal schedule and select relevant courses according to what is offered each semester and in consideration of required prerequisites. Students can take classes in the Psychology, Government, Communications, Business and Entrepreneurship schools. Q. Are there restrictions on classes that students can take?

A. There are select restrictions such as no honors classes, skills workshops or computer science classes (unless given special permission). Q. How many classes do students take per semester?

A. Students can take as few or as many classes as they choose.

Q. Can I receive credits for the classes that I take?

A. Yes. Our coursework can count towards your major, minor and electives at your home institution. IDC is a recognized academic institution all over the world, but we also advise students to check with their home college or university about accepting IDC credits.

Q. Do the students live in dorms or apartments?

A. Students will have the option of living in our brand new, on-campus dorms. They consist of single-room suites with a bed, closet, bathroom, kitchenette and table/chairs. The facilities include study halls and communal social areas to enable students to focus on their studies and to maintain a varied social life. Each building has laundry rooms with washing machines and dryers at the residents’ disposal, a shomer Shabbat elevator and a prayer room. The dorms are maintained by a skilled, experienced professional staff who are at the students’ service on a daily basis
