Catalogue 2021-22

Dear student,Many thanks for considering to study with us here at Edge Hill University. Within this document you will find the class options (modules) for any students wishing to study with us here during the academic year 2021-22. The catalogue is broken down into the various subject areas and is also broken down into levels of study and class availability. In order to help you explore the catalogue please read the guidance below.

UK Universities levels of studyStandard undergraduate degrees in the UK are 3 years in length. Once a student has completed their 3 years they will graduate with a degree in their chosen subject field. Level 4 = 1st year of degree studiesLevel 5 = 2nd year of degree studiesLevel 6 = 3rd year of degree studies

Post GraduateOnce student have completed an undergraduate degree they can apply for postgraduate options. This may be post graduate teaching qualification (PGCE) or a masters programme, both of which can be 1 or 2 years.

Level 7 = Postgraduate degree studies

Class choices (referred to as modules)Module codes will provide you with an idea of which level of study that class will be at. The further you progress through a degree the more substantial the workload and assessment becomes. Below shows the codes for the classes i.e. LIT1000 is a 1st year Literature class

1000 = 1st year of degree studies2000 = 2nd year of degree studies3000 = 3rd year of degree studies4000 = Postgraduate degree studies

During their studies, UK students at Edge Hill will take 60 UK credits per semester (120 credits per year) which equates to full time studies. For many students this means taking 3 x 20 UK credit classes per semester. This is the minimum we recommend incoming Study Abroad students to take. We do, however realise some student may need to take more. We will endeavour to support students who wish to take 80 UK credits (4 x 20 UK credit classes) per semester but students must be aware that they will have over 30% more workload than UK students. We won't allow students to take more than 80 UK credits per semester. Please consult your Study Abroad advisor at your home instituion as to how UK credits are translated back to your instituion.

SchedulingAll Study Abroad applicants are advised, at application to provide us with a list of 8 classes they would like to take and have approval for them from their home instituion. This must be provided in preference order and be correct according to the catalogue. Module code and title must be included. Choosing 8 classes allows us flexibility in planning your studies with us. As many students choose classes across years and subject areas there can be clashes on timetables. We do endeavour to approve students 1st class choices on their application. During the months leading up to your studies with us we will work on your class schedule and once you arrive you will be given your final timetable.

When choosing classes from the cataloguePlease make sure that you provide us with the module code and full title on your application. Please make sure you consider the correct semester the module runs in - Semester 1 = Fall, Semester 2 = SpringPlease consider the level of study of the classPlease consider any pre-requisites attached to some of the modulesApproval of modules at your home institution is the responsibility of the applicant

NB - Please do not use the main Edge Hill University site to choose modules as this does not reflect what is currently being offered for both SA stduents and home students

Credit transferAs the Study Abroad programme work across many countries we do not convert or transfer credits for your home institution. This is the responsibility of your home institution. We provide all students with a transcript of results that outline UK credits achieved during your studies.

Please note that whilst every effort has been made to make this catalogue up to date all course are subject to change. Updated changes will be published online - https://www.edgehill.ac.uk/international/incoming/study-abroad/?tab=module-catalogue

We looking forward to meeting you here on Campus!!Study Abroad Team
