New course choices at NUI GalwayIn the last six years, we haveintroduced over 20 newprogrammes, all of which have beendeveloped in response to thechanging needs of the job market.Here are just a few of them:

BA (Children’s Studies)The BA (Children’s Studies) is a new coursethat is particularly suited to school leaversinterested in developing careers working with,or on behalf of children. During year threestudents go on a work placement for onesemester, either nationally or internationally.Students also have the option to take a foreignlanguage and will have the option to study in a European University for a semester.

BComm (Global Experience)The BComm (Global Experience) is a newfour-year comprehensive business programmewhere in year 3 you will undertake a workplacement, or study abroad, or do acombination of the work placement andstudying abroad. Featured Course:

Biomedical EngineeringBiomedical Engineering at NUI Galway is a fouryear interdisciplinary degree programme, whichmerges traditional engineering subjects withbiology and medicine. The aim of the programmeis to train Biomedical Engineers for future careersin designing new medical technologies, or forgraduate education in engineering, medicine, and science. The programme has been developedthrough interaction with Medical Deviceindustrial partners and medical professionals.Our students undertake an 8 month industrialplacement, during which time they work side by side with Biomedical Engineers in the Med-Tech sector to solve real worldbioengineering problems.

Galway city is a hub for multinational biomedical device companies and smaller start-up Biomedical Engineering companies, with 38 biomed industries based in the cityregion. These industrial interactions are asignificant part of our course and our students areoften employed by these companies aftergraduation. There are strong links between theprogramme and Universities in Europe and theUSA, and we have exchange programmesenabling students to study at an internationalUniversity as part of their degree.

Since the University opened the doors of the Quadrangle in 1845, the NUI Galway campus has been constantly evolving toaccommodate ever-increasing numbers of students. Today, the main campus has over 90 buildings on 105 hectares of landsituated on the banks of the River Corrib.
