Dear reader,

The Summer University year 2008 started

with electing the brand new team. We

are starting the third decade of Summer

Universities this year and we - five very

motivated people who started out as individuals, but

grew to be a great team – are trying to bring somenovelties into the projects. Some of you might be new

to the project, but also many of you have had an

opportunity to participate in a Summer University and

some even to organise one. During that time you have

been shaping the project. Since AEGEE is evolving and

new topics of interest are arising we try to embrace

them. The most visible project of the network - the

Flagship Project - is for the upcoming time connected

with environmental topic. That is why we decided to

focus this year to two topics: Summer Universities with

a green theme and Summer Universities with a volun-

tary theme. We have been promoting Summer

Universities that not only offer fun activities, but also

focus on the impact that our everyday actions have.

While volunteering during a Summer University you

can get to know the local society much better then

while only being a guest. We feel that it gives a whole

new level in the intercultural dialogue. Living first hand

all those experiences you could otherwise never dream

of - that is the goal of this years Summer Universities.I would like to express my gratitude to the whole net-

work that has been helping the new Summer

University Coordination Team. Especially a big thank

you to the Comite Directeur, who have been very sup-

porting, and to the old teams who have made the

Summer University project possible already for 21

years.

Yours,

Katrin Tomson - SUCT Project Manager (AEGEE-Tartu)

32008 Summer University Booklet

This is my very first involvement with the Summer University Project and I would like to thank

the awesome SU Coordination Team for their support! My big thanks also go to all SU organis-

ers this year, especially those who reacted to my call for photos! A few words about this booklet:

treat it as a taster and always consult the website www.aegee.org/su! While the booklet is a fun

way to browse through the Summer University menu 2008, the website contains more detailed

information about each Summer University event’s contents. I wish you all a great Summer!

Kat Chzhen - Publications (AEGEE-York)

Dear AEGEEans,

Welcome to the biggest mobility project in Europe! Well, my first AEGEE event was

indeed a Summer University, far away in Moldova. It was a truly cultural experience,

a memory that I still cherish, an excellent beginning to my AEGEE career. After spending

two years in the local board of AEGEE-Valletta, I have moved on to the European level. And

I chose SUCT because long ago I realized that the project has a lot of potential.

It gave me a lot of motivation and enthusiasm, and I bet it will do the same for you! ;)

So many cities to choose from: Where are you going this summer?

Antonella Bonavia - Public Relations (AEGEE-Valletta)

A

lso this year we try as Summer University Coordination Team to manage the whole project as

smoothly as possible. I became member of AEGEE in 2004 and immediately joined as participantin a Travel Summer University in Spain. It was a great experience and also the following years I par-

ticipated again and explored Ukraine, Slovenia, Austria and Hungary. This year I decided it was about

time to give something back to this

great project, so I'm happy that I can do my part to let you participate in a Summer University in

2008!

 Joost Rovers - IT (AEGEE-Nijmegen)

It is a great duty and joy to be part of AEGEE's biggest project and Europe's largest cultural exchange and

youth mobility scheme in non-formal learning settings. Thousands of students will again this year join this

unique celebration of European unity in diversity and extraordinary exercise of European learning mobility. I

hope that this year Summer University will again bring a lot of valuable knowledge and unforgettable experi-

ences, through exploration and fun, friendships and a few summer loves, perhaps ;-) I would like to congratu-

late and thank all 114 organizing teams for making Europe happen again this summer, by volunteering their

time and energy to Summer University Project.

1. How to fill in the applicationform for a Summer University

(SU)?

- Before you apply, you should

first become a member of AEGEE

(you find contact data of your

nearest local branch on

www.aegee.org (“join AEGEE” on

the left).

- Applications are only done

online! You find an online appli-cation form on

www.aegee.org/su.

- Fields marked with * are

required.

- Please use only Latin characters

for names as well as addresses

(so avoid Cyrillic, Greek charac-

ters, etc) to ensure that the data

can be understood when read by

a foreign SU organiser.

- Submit your application includ-

ing a motivation letter in which

you explain who you are, why

you want to participate in the SU

you chose, etc. Attention: the

selection is mainly based on the

letter, so be specific and do a

good self-PR!

DISABILITY: In case you want to

apply for these special places,

please reply to the followingquestions: Which disability do

you suffer from? Is it sensorial

(are you blind, dumb, deaf) or

motoral (do you need a wheel-

chair or have problems with your

hands/legs)? Do you

need a person who takes care of

you for the whole duration of the

SU? If so, are you able to find

someone by yourself or do youneed the SU organiser to provide

you with an AEGEE-member who

takes care of you? What kind of

help would you need from thisperson?

2. When to apply?

For that, please get in contact

with your local AEGEE antenna

to find out about the internal

deadline for the application,

which will be no later than the

24th of April. Take into consider-

ation that your application has tobe approved by your home local

in order to be valid. You also find

the deadlines on

www.aegee.org/su.

3. How much is the fee and what

does it include?

The general SU fee is € 2,50 that

you have to pay to your AEGEE

local when sending the applica-

tion. Later, the upper limit to the

ordinary fee for the SU itself

depends on the SU-kind:

Language Course (LC) and

Summer Course (SC): € 70 per

week. Travelling Summer

University (TSU), Language

Course Plus (LC+) or Summer

Course Plus (SC+): € 90 per week.

The fees include: lodging, at least

two meals per day of which atleast one is warm, tuition and

social programme.

In some SUs you may be asked

for an extra fee for excursions or

other activities. This additional

fee is optional and you are not

obliged to pay it! The obligatory

fee, the optional fee and the way

of payment is described in the SU

booklet or the online eventdescriptions.

4. What is accommodation like? The type of lodging as well as the

needed equipment is described in

the SU booklet. It can vary from

SU to SU: with AEGEE members,

youth hostels, tents, gyms…

Remember: the price you will be

charged is quite low and organis-

ers will have to pay a lot more

than only the lodging.

5. And what about the quality?

The quality of our SUs is con-

trolled by the Summer University

Coordination Team. We can

observe that the general quality

is rising from year to year. But do

not forget that AEGEE is no travel

agency and that the SU-organis-

ers are no professionals but stu-

dents who are not paid for their

work and who invest their pre-

cious leisure time to make this

great experience possible for

you! Mistakes can happen, but

the organisers will always do

their best to make your stay

unforgettable! Remember: the

group makes the spirit and it is

up to you what your personal

outcome of the SU will be like!

However, in case of any problemsin a SU your attending, please do

contact your local or Summer

University Coordination Team.

6. The selection procedure – or

what’s happening next with my

application?

After having sent your applica-

tion, there are several steps:

- The SUCT runs the pre-selectionin which 2 of the 3 choices are

being cancelled.

The whole pre-selection is done

Frequently Asked

Questions

Page 5: Su Booklet 2008 Version 3

completely automatically,

changes afterwards are impossi-

ble! We cannnot make sure that

you will be pre-selected in the

same SU as your friend e.g., as

the process is meant to provide

the organisers with enough appli-

cations that are well balanced inmatters of country, city and gen-

der.

- Your applications have to be

approved by your home local in

order to become valid.

- Your pre-selected choice will be

forwarded to the organisers who

then do the final selection. The

selection is completely up to the

local but often this is done fol-

lowing some criteria, e.g. balance

of genders, nationality, age, moti-

vation letter. After this, the local

publishes a selection list and

informs all the people who

applied to their event.

7. What does it mean to be on

the waiting-list for a Summer

University?

Being on a waiting-list does notmean that you cannot go to a SU.

After a certain deadline set by

the organising local, people from

the waiting-list may be accepted

due to cancellations or due to

missing conformations of the

selected persons. The locals are

obliged to inform you but it could

help if you got in contact with

the organisers to ask for yourchances to be still accepted. You

may also ask them to remove you

from the list so that you can

answer open calls of SU with

vacant places.

8. How to find out about possi-

ble free places in other Summer

Universities?

In the application form you will

be asked if a) you want to know

about free places and if yes, b)

getting the info on a mailing-list.

We will subscribe all people who

want that to a mailing-list onto

which we post open calls from

SU’s and their vacant places. Last-

minute-offers may also be posted

to the public mailing list AEGEE-

SU-L.

9. Visas or passports needed? To travel to certain countries you

may need your passport and

sometimes even a visa. Getting a

passport can be time-consuming,

and a visa even more - up to 2

months in the worst case.

Consequently, when applying pay

particular attention to the start-

ing date of the SU you choose!

And do remember that you will

get to know only in April if you

are selected for the SU in ques-

tion! Generally, most of the

AEGEE locals are experienced in

the visa-getting process as stu-

dent mobility is a part of the

AEGEE spirit and getting visas

may be necessary for its mem-

bers. We even have a working

group willing to help you: the

Visa Freedom Fighters! In anycase, the visa-process will need a

good communication and collab-

oration from your side!

10. Data protection

AEGEE-Europe stores your data

for internal purposes only (e.g.

statistical analysis). AEGEE-

Europe may use the provided

information to contact you forinternal reasons. Your data will

not be handed out to third par-

ties; the organiser(s) of the SU

that obtained your data is/are

also subject to this restriction.

The organiser of the event that

you were pre-selected for may

only publish your name and

AEGEE local in order to announce

who was accepted and who was

not. You have the right to receive

information about the data are

stored about you (contact head-

[email protected]). You may

revoke your consent to store your

data; however please note that

without your consent your SU

application cannot be considered

for the pre-selection & selection

process.

11. PhilosophyAEGEE is not a travel agency and

Summer Universities are not

events that you can “book”. But

AEGEE and the SU project give

you a tool and a possibility to

travel and to get to know foreign

countries, cultures, languages

and people. It is the ultimate way

to overcome mental and physical

borders! That is why we strongly

encourage you to choose events

that are organised in cities that

are not on the usual touristy

map. This is the adventurous

aspect about our project: every-

body can go to famous capitals,

but with the SU Project you have

the unique chance to do some-

thing different, to really experi-

ence Europe. Because it is not a

matter of the place, it is a matterof the people and you!

Environment and nature affectsus all whether we like it or not

 – through weather, food chains,

water, energy, wildlife and so on.

But being responsible and caring

about the things around us does-

n’t mean that we have to be hard-

core „green” people – it can be

also part of fun activities, summer

adventures and discovering new

places and cultures.

That’s why SUCT and EnWG have

joined their forces to create green-er Summer Universitys with two

main goalss:

1) organising your SU with as small

ecological impact as possible;

2) raising awareness on some

issue connected to environmental

protection, nature conervation or

sustainable development

SU can be focus on one of these

directions or both of them.

AEGEE locals organising that kind

of a Summer University don’t onlyoffer you cultural exchange and

summer fun, but also try to take

some responsbility towards our

environment and our own future.

Have a look into this booklet and

find out how different locals have

taken up this challenge – maybe

you will be attending the SU, that

will be rewarded with the

Greenest SU Award in autumn

Agora 2008.

Event Types

SU with a Green Theme

SU with a Voluntary Theme

The idea of VSU started in 2004 when AEGEE-

Zaragoza decided that their SU should have impact

not only on the participants and organisers but also on

people outside the average AEGEE target group. We

believe that organising a Voluntary Summer University

gives you a chance not only to participate in a program

prepared by the organisers, but also to give somethingto the community you are a guest of. Volunteering in a

Summer University does not mean hard labour, or

doing things that you would prefer to escape from! In

previous years participants and organisers were enter-

taining people from small villages of Aragon with street

theatre, small concerts and shows, games with chil-

dren, cooking festival with old ladies and many more

activities that brought happiness to villages which are

quite isolated. We would be happy to see if more

locals would organise in following years SummerUniversities where they add some volunteering

aspects. Even if you help someone just for a day- it will

give you an amazing positive feeling!!

Public Relations Working Group

The Public Relations Working

Group (PRWG) of AEGEE Europe

is the meeting point of all AEGEE

members from all over the networkwho have an interest in Public

Relations. As a Supporting Working

Group, the PRWG is aimed to assist

the Comité Directeur in its specific

tasks and is responsible towards

the AGORA.

Its vision is to provide the best

possible Public Relations to AEGEE.

Its mission is to support the

AEGEE network in matters of Public

Relations.

The goals of PRWG are:

1- To maintain a pool of AEGEE

members with sufficient expertise

in Public Relations and able to act

as Public Relations practitioners

within AEGEE.

2- To act as a knowledge and expe-rience source for locals, project

teams, commissions or working

groups interested in developing

their Public Relations.

3- To keep up a link between the

European and local level in what

Public Relations are concerned.

4- To develop and maintain specific

Public Relations tools for AEGEE.

The PRWG is being coordinated

by a board consisting of a speaker, a

secretary, a treasurer and several

general board members. Every

member of PRWG has

the right to candidate for a board

position and to vote during the

2008 – 2009 Flagship ProjectI

n AEGEE we think that it is impos-

sible to make our world a better

place to live in if only left for others.

We have the opinion that the only

way to make an impact is if every-

one is improving in small steps.

That has been done in our organi-

sation with cultural exchange, pro-moting active citizenship, our vision

on higher and non-formal educa-

tion and with promoting democra-

cy for peace and stability.

Now we are taking the next step

and adopting the 2008 – 2009

Flagship Project “Changing

Landscapes: Sustaining our Future”.

This project will give a view of what

is happening in the field of sustain-

ability and global warming, without

taking a prefixed stand. We will

stress that problems do not stop at

national borders, so neither canpossible solutions. We’ll try to get

the people that are involved most

at the moment into the discussions:

us, the European Youth, the future

generations. And we’ll try to show

that it is not so difficult for an

organisation to take small steps to

improve our actions.

Our first activity will be the Action

Day at 5 June 2008, with actions

throughout Europe.

In this booklet you can find

Summer Universities during whole

summer that deal with the greentopic. Visit them if you can! It will

be a great experience. There will be

more Flagship activities throughout

’08 and ’09. For more information

see www.aegee.org/sustaining.

Have you ever heard about

AEGEE Salerno?

Have you ever visited Salerno and

its surroundings?

If your answers are no, there

could be only two reasons: either

you are a new AEGEE member or

you have missed many opportu-

nities to enjoy unforgettable

days.

If we mention Capri island,

Paestum, Pompei, Amalfi and the

Amalfitan Coast, we believe we

said more than enough to con-

vince you that you must come. Now, you could think: “Ok, I

know these are wonderful places

well-known in the whole world

but what about your contribu-

tion? What’s AEGEE-Salerno 's

contribution?”

Well, come here to discover the

real AEGEE spirit. We promise

you wild parties, lots of laugh and

lots of surprises. And most of all,

we promise you a great Italian

language course that will maybe

not turn you into an Italian but

almost.

This summer you’ll be a special

AEGEE member. You’ll probably

want to become an AEGEE-

Salerno member, like lots of peo-

ple already did from all around

the Europe.

When you leave you’ll bring with

you the mentality of this crazy

gang as we are. And you'd have

You don’t know what’s meant

by “Schützenfest” and

“Planwagenfahrt”? You have

never heard before? Then come

to AEGEE-Münster! Get crazy

about the unique westphalian

landscape and be attached by our

motivation to rock the west-

phalian students’ city. You’ll cap-

ture the countryside from moat-

ed castles to beautiful farms,

especially by car, but we’ll also

take the bike and “Planwagen”!

In the evening a cold beer and a

bed of straw will be waiting for

you. But don’t be afraid: Wewon’t exclusively push you, there

will be enough time to relax at

one of our lakes or in the park

while having a barbecue. You’ll

get to know life in our old and

vivid student’s city Münster as

well as the Münsteranian park

landscapes and the German lan-

guage - just a real discovery jour-

ney across Westphalia in which

the evening’s program won’t be

missed out. Karaoke-party,

European dinner, “Schützenfest”

or brewery visitation: We want to

see life!!! We’ll lodge in gyms,

tents and pass one night in a

hayloft.

Viva Colonia is a famous song

in Cologne which expresses

what we want to show you: the

way of living in Köln.

If you want to have a great time,

be part of our Summer

University! Get to know people

from all over Europe and from

“Kölle”, have fun with them andlearn or improve the German lan

guage! Besides spending day (and

night) with us (by the way, the

people in Köln are known for

being very laid-back and fun),

there´s a lot of things to explore

in and around this city:

Köln, founded by the romans

2000 years ago, is one of the old-

est cities in Germany. Therefore

Köln has a lot of history and a lot

of tradition – you will see!

There will also be excursions to

the region around.

No matter if you don´t speak a

single word of German or are

almost an expert – we will pro-

vide you with basic, intermediate

and advanced courses. To make it

easier for you to actually speak

German, don´t forget the partys

at night. Enjoy the nights withnew friends and Kölsch, our typi-

cal beer in Köln.

So: be part of VIVA COLONIA,

climb to the top of the famous

cathedral of Cologne, see the

museum of German history in

Bonn, join us on a boat-trip on

the river Rhein and experience

one of the most frequented

shopping street of Germany!

This summer we welcome you

to Karlsruhe, the hottest spotin Germany – and you can make

it even hotter! Providing a

Pyramid in its center, being

shaped like a fan and being situ-

ated next to the Rhine makes

Karlsruhe a unique place that

everybody should have visited at

least once in his life. Karlsruhe is

a "green city", nearly half of the

area is covered by parks orforests. Especially the huge

"Schlosspark" in its heart pro-

vides many possibilities for relax-

ing, sun bathing and leisure activ-

ities. Besides that, Karlsruhe has a

magnificent city centre with

many shops and lots of pubs,

cafes and especially beergardens.

The leisure program includes trips

to Heidelberg (yes, with thefamous castle), Strasbourg

(including a visit to the European

Parliament), a cycling tour

through the picturesque Baden

countryside, a visit to a wine fes-

tival in the Pfalz (a famous wine-

growing region), and of course

parties and European Cooking.

During the programme, our

group will be joined by another15 (Non-AEGEE-) students from

Italy on exchange.

This year we’ll also put some

emphasis on ecological issues

during our SU.

think they are the best? Is it

just some sort of arrogance? Or is

there actually some reason for

this Dutch pride? Come to the

even the Romans already loved it

it’s historical qualities, but of

to taste the exciting nightlife

Nijmegen has to offer as a typical

ou think that the only Olympic

Olympian Gods have other plans.

During a famous Olympian party,

said with a disarming charm:

"Mmm... Strolling across the tra-

the historical Acropolis. Since

Olympic Games are one of the

greatest expressions of civiliza-

serious part! If there is some-

thing that the people of The Port

heart of Romania - the legendary

city Sighisoara where we’ll dis-

cover a little part of the medieval

Europe: knights, fairy tales, and

princesses.

Sailing through Dutch culture is

a spectacular event, in which

exciting activities, partying and

typical Dutch culture will be com-

bined in two weeks. We will

show many aspects of Dutch cul-

ture during daytime and night-time. A main aspect of this sum-

mer course is sailing with panora-

ma view throughout typical

Dutch landscapes. Another activi-

ty is a several days lasting visit to

a typical 'tropical' Dutch island

with the possibility to relax on

the marvelous sand beach at the

sea. Of course you will be taught

the necessary Dutch to buy abeer or date a Dutchie. A bike

excursion is another part of the

program. Our basis, the city of

Groningen, has a very old and

large university. The large num-

bers of students have made a

fabulous and unique nightlife

possible, which we will explore

until the break of dawn!

Groningen is capital city of thenorth of the Netherlands. The

University of Groningen has

around 40.000 students and is

400 years old. Numerous restau-

rants, bars, clubs and discothe-

ques let the city by lively for 24/7.

Those places are filled with tall,

blond, athletic, friendly Dutch.

Groningen nightlive is faboulous

for the lack of obligatory closinghours: partying goes on till break

of dawn.

Schiermonnikoog is a Dutch

island situated next to the North

Sea and the Dutch wad area. On

this island nature tourism and

beach tourism are combined.

Schiermonnikoog has kilometers

of fine sand beach. The boat trip

from the mainland takes an hourboating through National Park.

Seals can been seen on this boat

trip.

of places to discover, Would you

middle of our deep nature?

Don't you want to feel the

Mediterranean sun on your skin

and touch the hot sand of

Antalya?

Wouldn't it be nice if you walk

where all our ancestors lived

once peacefully and living in

the myths ?

Don't you want to adapt your-

self to the attractive rhythm of

music?

Also you know, you want to

wear your mask and costumes

and playing myths on the stage

with "peace theatre" just to feelhumanity...?

Dream about somewhere

where there's no ethnicity, no

identity, no religion or no any dif-

ferences.

You won't be just travelling

across Turkey, you will feel

Turkey in your individuality.

What? Is it impossible? Now,

we'll make it possible with you in

Mediterranean dream! You'll feel

peace in your souls and bones

with peaceful rays of smiling sun-

shine.

Some theories of special and

general relativity allow time

travel into the past… Physicists

discuss the possibility of world-

lines forming loops in spacetime… All of them suppose, think and

estimate… All of them say that

time machine doesn’t exist, yet…

Let them think and suppose!

Leave them alone with their the-

ories! AEGEE – Sankt-Peterburg

has invented the time machine –

AEGEE-TM! :)

But there is a problem! Of course

Russian mafia got to know about

our invention and broke the TM!

And it went mad! So that the but-

tons on the time-panel do not

correspond to the time or epoch

they point at! So now we have a

CRAZY TIME MACHINE!!!

We gathered together at one of

the secret AEGEE meetings and

drew the plan! We decided to

recruit a group of European best

of the best who are young, ambi-

tious and desperate. In Augustthey are to travel through the

Russian history and carry out the

secret plan of repairing our TM

and saving Russia! As we don’t

know where the main breakage is

our team will explore the Ancient

Rus with its pagan deities, cults

and wonderful landscapes, walk

through the Petersburg of Peter

the Great with its marvellous

buildings, streets and channels,

the epoch of Russian Czars with

its luxury and magnificence, go

back to Soviet time and… Finally

we will try to fix our TM and

come back to modern time to see

the contemporary city with its

modern art and crazy night life!

Al Gore told us the bad news:

due to global warming the

Netherlands will disappear in the

water! So before we no longer

exist, come and explore the LOW-

LANDS.

We will test our sailing skills, hik-

ing abilities, and Dutch-famous-

party-society. Furthermore you

will be introduced to the beauti-

ful natural treasures of our coun-

try. In these beautiful environ-

ments it is the challenge to fight

against the elements:

You will experience wild adven-

tures on land, sea and taste the

fire in the cities. But living and partying in the wild

is not enough, you will also see

the way we try to sustain the

lowlands: the levies and the

water supply of Amsterdam.

Not feeling like a hippie? For you

we have a great program as well!

Test your strength against the

elements, enjoy partying in the

student life, go on a search for

the hidden places in the

Netherlands.

And that’s not all: You will be

sailing on the IJselmeer and hik-

ing in the Dutch country-side.

This Summer University will be

green, therefore you will only

have the best natural products to

enjoy, for example a product

made of yeast, barley and hop…Are you prepared to fight water

wind and fire? Do you want to

experience the unexpected? Do

you like to party and do you have

the AEGEE-Spirit always with

you? Then Sustaining the low-

lands is looking for you!

Evolution reloaded: Experience

the long journey from the dis-

Our journey through evolution

will begin in the Pfälzerwald

Leaving Stone Age behind, we

will discover antiquity and medi-

aeval times in Mainz: The town of

the ancient Romans and

Gutenberg! Though mediaeval

remains (such as the Lorelei and

mediaeval castles at the Rhine)

and Gutenberg's legacy can still

be found in our time, nowadays'

media will finally lead us to mod-

ern times. Needless to say, that

we won't forget about viniculture

 – after all, this is a wine-growingdistrict!

After a delicious wine-tasting, we

are ready to go on to Frankfurt

and taste the national beverage

and its skyline as well as visit

Frankfurt airport, which is

Europe's second largest airport.

ages – experience evolution in

AEGEE-fashion on a journey lead-

ing you from the dark forest

(Kaiserslautern) to cultural high-

left for shopping, relaxing, city

tours, parties, ... - simply for

everything a hunter-gatherercould wish for!

Dear Princesses and Knights,

are you brave enough to

explore the drops of our culture?

Taste the drops of famous

Hungarian wine and palinka,

enjoy swimming in the drops of

Lake Balaton, feel the drops of

our spas!!!

‘…..Once upon a time, there was

a group of princesses and knights

who arrived from all over Europe

to conquer the magic land of Hungary. They had to stand many

adventures during the two weeks

spent here. They got familiar with

the culture of our country and

the traditions of the people, they

discovered the treasures of the

famous wine region of Eger,

defeated the fearful monsters of

the ‘Hungarian Sea’ (Lake

Balaton). But to be said that their

efforts were crowned with suc-

cess, they also had to live up to

the challenges of the country-

life…….’

During the way, they earned the

love of the locals, who helped

them carry out their mission.

During this hard adventure, theycould admire the beauties of the

Hungarian land: from the ’puszta’

to the mountains, from the

ranches to the capital, from the

rivers to the ’Sea’. They could

taste the specialties of the

Hungarian pubs (‘kocsma’) and

cuisine…….to be continued…

If you feel brave enough, start

packing!!!

AEGEE-Zagreb and AEGEE-Rijekarock together again!

We'll try to

show you as

many faces of

Croatia as pos-

sible in 2

weeks. The

event starts in

Zagreb, the

capital. You'll get to know this 1000years old city, culture heritages associ-

ated with the continental part of

Croatia, its legends and simply "the

way we are here"...All that com-

bined with crazy summer nights,

parties on the lake (swimming

too), traditional food, karaoke...

You'll have traditional folk dances

workshop held by a professional

instructor (yes, you will sing in

Croatian!), necktie workshop (let

the best (wo)man win!), andthere are also sports/sun-

bathing/swimming afternoons

(lakes), projections of Croatian

films at the Zagreb film acade-

my(subtitled)...

A day reserved for hiking on the

Mount Medvednica, a natural

park under which the city is situ-

ated, will be perfect for sport and

nature lovers. At the end of the

first week the path (OK,well, the

bus!;)) will take us to the city of

Varazdin, an old, incredibly

charming and beautiful baroque

city in whose vicinity is located

the most beautiful medieval cas-

tle (Trakoscan) of northern

Croatia.

And then, seaside, here we

come! On the way to the

south,we'll visit the national parkPlitvice Lakes where the beautiful

turquoise lakes, streams and

refreshing waterfalls protected by

UNECSO will be just a glimpse of

incredible things to come before

arriving to Rijeka. The second

week of the event will bring you

closer to summer life on the

north coast of Croatia. You will

be swimming and sunbathing, but be prepared to stand in awe

in front of grandiose Roman and

Byzantium monuments still

present today in Istra,

where you will also get to

know Glagoljica

(medieval alphabet),

during the excursion to

the heart of peninsula!

We'll take you to see the

mayor of Rijeka, as well as the

city sights, we'll show you how

crazy-all-day-long-party on the

boat while cruising among islands

looks like!

It was less than 20 years ago,

when there were no three Baltic

sisters, no Baltic countries – only

USSR. And it was only 17 years ago,

when Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia

got independence and started to

be like three sisters, not one

grown-up woman. Since that all of

them have always stack together

and showed their love and support

to each other.

In TSU 2008 you have a unique

possibility to see how much do

we stick together! How much dowe support each other and at the

same time what kind of jokes are

we telling about each other (slow

Estonians, “ irgagalvas”

Lithuanians, envious Latvians and

so on).

In this TSU we will show you what

are the biggest differences and sim-

ilarities between three Baltic sis-

ters, so after going home you

would see the differences between

them and you would be able to

remember, which the capital of

which country is.

We promise: fun in Lithuanian,

Latvian and Estonian way! Seeing

untouched nature in all three coun-

tries. Seeing capitals of all three

countries. The real AEGEE spirit in the

first Baltic TSU, organised by three

Baltic locals. We promise much more – but you need to come to find out,

what exactly!

Spain…is a country of stereo-types. Our country, one of the

most important touristic destina-

tions in the world, can’t let you

be indifferent!!!

BUT...what do you think?? Are

those stereotypes really true??

Or are they just nothing but

myths? For example...

Do you think we dance and sing

flamenco? Or sevillanas?Do you think that we have bulls

in the street? Or that we have

bulls as pets?

Do you think we often

eat paella and tapas?

Do you think we have

basically sun and beach

as sights to see?

Is siesta something we do day by

day? Fiesta too?

And what about drinking sangria?

Anyway, that’s life... isn’t it?You will get the answers to all

these questions and to many

more during our workshops and

adventurous activities.

Are you dreaming of a SU which

combines impressive mountains

with lovely beaches, never-end-

ing parties with cultural visits?

Wake up, this is reality!!

If you come with us, you will liveour real life. You will become

more “eSpaniard”! Taste our

food, our drinks, experience

our customs, our way of

thinking, definitely... our

WAY OF LIFE!!! Sounds

interesting to you?

made the right choice!

breakfasts and then let the wind

dance with your sails. Feel the

soft touch of the water on yourfeet, smell the fresh sea in the

air, watch the shores of Aegean

Sea while surfing on your boards!

You just need a break, now it's

time to let your bodies relax on

the golden sand, with a refresh-

party around the fire?

your place in the dancefloor.

Are you worried that you can not

do the belly dance? Delicious

Turkish food will make you feel

like a Turk, so no problems! You

will also see some tricks in the

Hamam, you will learn how to

use your bell. Actually you should

learn it, because you will need

those skills in the TurkishWedding.
