One of our ex-dads continues to volunteer every week helping children with their reading and writing. His own children are now in their mid 20s! We often have grandparents who attend excursions and/or assist with reading and writing in the classrooms. We are so very grateful and appreciative of the time and support offered in this regard. It is also heartwarming to note the number of parents, children and staff who enthusiastically get behind events and initiatives to support the disadvantaged and/or seriously unwell. Allocating 700 children takes some time; it is complex and there are occasionally competing demands including: Individual childrens friendship requests Parentsrequests for individual children to be with or separated from Teacher suggestions for pairings and separations Ensuring that grades have a balance of personalities and behaviours Ensuring grades have a spread of cognitive abilities Being mindful of the gender – trying to ensure we have balanced numbers of both boys and girls. We are looking to create harmonious and well balanced grades that result in the best learning opportunities.

Parent Volunteers and Helpers Morning Tea Tuesday 17 December at 10.30am I remind all parents that we have an appreciation morning tea on Tuesday of next week to acknowledge the many generous spirited mums, dads, grannies and grandpas that lend a hand at Hampton. I warmly invite our volunteers and helpers to a morning tea on Tuesday of next week 17 December at 10.30am in the quadrangle. 2020 Staffing Yesterday children had the opportunity to meet their grade and teacher for 2020. Allocating 700 children takes some time; it is complex and there are occasionally competing demands including: Individual children’s friendship requests Parents’ requests for individual children to be with or separated from Teacher suggestions for pairings and separations Ensuring that grades have a balance of personalities and behaviours Ensuring grades have a spread of cognitive abilities Being mindful of the gender – trying to ensure we have balanced numbers of both boys and

Our Grade 6s will attend their graduation ceremony tonight at Brighton Grammar School. This is a formal and celebratory occasion for our Grade 6s where we officially acknowledge the final stage of their primary school education; they share some reflections and highlights on their time at Hampton and each child is presented with a graduation certificate by our School Council president Fiona Loveland. I wish all our Grade 6s the best of luck with their speeches. 2020 Student Leaders Yesterday we announced our student leaders for 2020 at a special assembly. I acknowledge that quite a few children applied for the positions and on this occasion, did not receive a position. This takes courage and confidence to have a go at a role, knowing you may not be successful. I commend all children who applied, completed the application and presented for an interview. Every child in Grade 5 opted for an action team for 2020 today, we now have some very excited children who are eager to take initiative and make a difference in our school. I extend my congratulations to the following student leaders: School Captains: Paddy Wilson and Isabella Tranter Youth Ambassadors: Tali Shevach and Daniel Storey Art Captains: Ruby McMillan and Hannah Pordage Environment Captains: Mia Suddes and Max Anquetil Intercultural Captains: Chloe Edwards and Nick Capel

In Term 3 the unit focused on living things; this term, solids, liquids and gasses has been the focus. Last week was spent trying to make a helium balloon hover; this required the children to patiently and very carefully make adjustments to the weight in the basket attached to the balloon and catching dragon's breath. Needless to say the children were totally engrossed. Assembly Well done to 6D who led the singing of the National Anthem at assembly on Friday. Congratulations go to Saxon Taranto in 6D and Patrick Hill in 6C who playing ‘Avengers March’ on viola and cello respectively. They learnt to play this piece very recently and presented a very poignant performance demonstrating their outstananding musicality. We are lucky to have another performer in Niko White who played an unusual piece on guitar with great sensitivity. We were fortunate to have the state member for Southern Metropolitan and member of the Legislative Council, Mr Enver Erdogan visit the school and address the assembly on Friday. He showed much interest in our school. Fiona Loveland our School Council President and we escorted him on a short tour through some classrooms and viewed the school facilities. We were keen to note that our school needs to have a major upgrade in facilities and in particular to have a netball stadium built. Mr Erdogan committed to bringing our school to the attention of Minister Merlino and possibly orchestrating a visit to the school from the Minister.
