We are excited to host Sue Spargo for an informative 3 day retreat! We have room for 18 to stay on site for $1200 and seven to come to the 3 day event but find their own lodging (we have some resources) for $1100. Price includes three days of instruction by Sue Spargo, two complete kits, trunk show, and meals. Day one is a beginner project, to get the basics down with a small project. Day two and three is a larger wallhanging that is more involved, with many more techniques and stitches (see page 3 for descriptions). We will not be using sewing machines in Sues classes, but if you would like to bring your machine to sew in the evening after classes, you are welcome to do so. You will have plenty of time, and all evening after dinner to work on anything youd like. Accommodations: There are some fairly good pictures on our website. We generally set up the work space with two 4’ tables per participant. But we will be doing only hand work, no sewing machines, so each participant will have one table and a design wall. This will give us an opportunity to set up a dining room in the event center, and add more comfy seatingchairs for use as needed. The room has 56 100 watt day light bulbs in the work room, but you will have power at your table if you would still like to bring a table lamp and/or assistive magnification for your handwork. The chairs are armless rolling chairs. Very comfortable. All of your food, snacks and basic beverages will be provided. We have a wine fridge, a Keurig, and a barista ($3 for 16 oz hot or cold). If there is something special you want to drink, please bring it along. We do not provide soda, only bottled water, tea and coffee; but we are having a wine/ cheese welcome at the art gallery Thursday night.

We will not be using sewing machines in Sue’s classes, but if you would like to bring your machine to sew in the evening after classes, you are welcome to do so. You will have plenty of time, and all evening after dinner to work on anything you’d like.

Accommodations:

There are some fairly good pictures on our website. We generally set up the work space with two 4’ tables per participant. But we will be doing only hand work, no sewing machines, so each participant will have one table and a design wall. This will give us an opportunity to set up a dining room in the event center, and add more “comfy seating” chairs for use as needed. We do not provide soda, only bottled water, tea and coffee; but we are having a wine/cheese welcome at the art gallery Thursday night. A menu will be finalized about a month prior to the event, if you have any food allergies or intoleranc-es, let us know in advance and we will accommodate your needs.

Necessary Supplies*: 1. Sue’s “Creative Stitching” book. 2. Needlepoint kit that includes: sharp scissors, needle threader, glue, pincushion, appliqué pins, frixion

pen, small ruler, “hole thing” and any magnification notions needed or desired. 3. Needle case that includes: #1 milliners, #11 straw, #22 chenille, #24 chenille

and #7 embroidery (a starter needle pack will be provided*). 4. Thread box that holds an assortment of: appliqué threads (aurifil 80 wt), wool

12 wt, eleganza size #3 and #8 and all other desired threads and baubles** 5. Both kits (included). We will have a class in February to collect your kits,

discuss additional needs and get instruction to stitch down your wool appliqués to prepare for the class.

*all notions and books are available at The Fabric Patch for 10% off with paid registration. **Sue is bringing some of her ribbons, threads and notions that we do not carry for you to add to your stash of supplies.

Retreat Cancellation policy: Full refund until January 5th. No refund after January 5th, class is transferrable.

Sue Spargo Retreat

April 5th, 6th and 7th 2018

Retreat Schedule: Sue asks that all participants work on the same project as she will be teaching 25 students at a time. A different project can be disruptive and difficult for Sue. If you have other “Sue” projects, you can bring them to work on in the evening, during your down time, but it would not be appropriate to work on them during the three days of class. Also, we order the kits directly from Sue, and she requires that each participant use one of her kits as she wants to be very familiar with the contents and their quality. Once you pick up your kit and prepare your project, you do have the option of trading out colors as you wish, but it is not recommended. Colors and design can be altered with the embellishment stitches if desired. Thursday, April 5th: 8am: arrival to get set up and select your table. 8 - 8:30: continental breakfast 9 - 12: Cana Blossom Pin Keeper (see description page 3) 12 - 1: lunch (provided) 1 - 4: Completion of Cana Blossom Pin Keeper 4 - 10pm: Massage Therapist arriving 6pm: dinner and wine at Fire on Main Art Gallery

Friday, April 6th: 8 - 9am: Breakfast 9am - 12: Flower and Vase (see description page 3) 12: Lunch (provided) 1pm - 4pm: Flower and Vase 4:30 - 6pm: Trunk Show/Lecture 7pm: dinner

Saturday, April 7th 8am: Breakfast 9am - 12: Flower and Vase 12:30: lunch 2pm - 5: Flower and Vase completion 4pm: Massage Therapist arriving. 6pm: dinner

Sunday, April 8th: 8am: Breakfast 9am - 12: Finish up projects 12:30: lunch 1 - 2: pack up 2pm: check out

We will provide: 4’ work table, adjustable rolling chair, personal design wall. A large cutting mat for group use. Two irons/boards for group use. Food, beverages (coffee, tea, water). All linens, bedding, quilts, pillows.

You will need to bring: Clothing, toiletries. Bring any projects you want to work on in the evening. Just in case you feel like working on something else. We will have evening events planned if you want to get away from the event center, but if you’d rather take advantage of the time to sew, bring whatever you’d like to work on.

Both of these projects are unique to Sue’s workshops. The patterns are not found in stores, online or in magazines. This is an opportunity to create two unique pieces, and to learn from the expert. The complete weekend, as described on page one includes ALL food, lodging, instruction, kits and swag bags. You are just responsible for travel and personal notions. We do have limited space for those that want to take just day one, or just day two and three. This registration will include lunch, instruction, kit and swag bag.

Cana Blossom Pin Keep ($400)

In this one day workshop you will create this lovely pincushion. This small project is packed full of possibilities… instruction is focused on learning basic embroidery stitches, playing with stitch combinations, incorporating tiny buttons and ribbons to enhance designs and experimenting with layering techniques using wool and silk velvet. The complete kit to create this 6” x 6” pin keeper is in-cluded with your class. It contains the hand dyed wool used in the background, the back and the appliqués, as well as the ribbon, velvet, two starter nee-dles and a bead packet. 7 hour class includes lunch snacks and beverages and kit.

Flower and Vase ($800)

This 16” x 25” wallhanging focuses on stitching and layering techniques that incorporate a variety of specialty threads, fabrics, fibers and beads. Participants will be expected to complete the wool appliqué portion prior to class to ensure that class time may focus on learning embellishment stitching and layering techniques. Examples for creating distinctive borders for completing the project will be discussed. The kit for this project is included with the class and contains: • hand dyed wool for the background of the piece and

the appliqué designs • one chenille #24 and one milliner #1 • a small journal for sketching or note taking • a single page of instruction that describes Sue’s meth-

od for completing wool appliqué using the whip stitch
