Suffolk Chapter Columbiettes

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

As I sit here and write this newsletter, I cannot help contemplating what our future is going to be like.

Many questions have been asked and brought up. Is our Society going to change for the better or for the worse? Is this our new way of living? We are all living in uncertainty what our future is going to be like?

We must keep our faith, strength and hope in us that our dear Lord will see us through.

I know our brother Knights and Sister Columbiettes have been working so hard in trying to ease some of the stress by doing the good works that you do in helping in so many ways and supporting our Doctors, Nurses, Heath Care Workers, Essential Workers, EMTs etc.. They have and still are given so many endless hours of their dedication during this horrible Pandemic. God Bless them all.

Ladies, I know Auxiliary President received the Guidelines on how to proceed with your elections from our Supreme President Micki. Any question you have you can call our NYS. Officer in our area Kathy Anderson C. (516) 313-5483 or e-mail [email protected] or Supreme VP. Ronnie Pliszak (631)289-5758 or e-mail her at [email protected]

Our NYS. Convention has been postponed. Those who paid money, will receive a refund.

When we come to any kind of normalcy, I had e-mailed your Auxiliary Presidents about hosting a Chapter meeting asking them if they could keep the same month as they did in the 2019-2020 year. The only change would be the date and year. So please talk it over with your Corporation President.

In closing, I pray that you all Stay Safe and Stay Well. Please pray for those who have lost a loved one, who are in the hospital fighting every day, our elderly who are in Nursing homes and to all the professionals who are in the health field. I miss all my brother and sister’s smiling faces.

God Bless

Suffolk Chapter Columbiette

Pope Francis’ Prayer During Coronavirus Pandemic

As trustful children we turn to the father. We do it every day, several times a day; but right now we wish to beg mercy for mankind, so sorely tried by the coronavirus pandemic. And we do this together, Christians of every Church and Community, of every tradition, of every age, language, and nation. We pray for the sick and their families; for health workers and those who help them; for the authorities, law enforcement agencies and volunteers; for the ministers of our communities. Today many of us celebrate the Incarnation of the Word in the womb of the Virgin Mary, when her humble and total “Behold” reflected the “Behold” of the Son of God. We too entrust ourselves, with full confidence, to the hands of God, and with one heart and one soul we pray:

“Our Father …”

COVID-19 LOCKDOWN

The official lockdown started on March 23rd. May 1st was exactly 40 days. The Latin root word for “quarantine”

is “forty.” So, what does the Bible say about 40?

The flood lasted 40 days.

40 years Moses fled Egypt.

40 days Moses stayed on Mount Sinai to receive the Commandments.

Exodus lasted 40 years.

Jesus fasted 40 days.

40 days for a woman to rest after giving birth.

Optimum number of weeks for human gestation is 40.

Please know that during this “quarantine” rivers are cleaning up; vegetation is growing; the air is becoming

cleaner because of less pollution; there is less theft and murder; healing is happening, and most importantly,

people are turning to Christ. The Earth is at rest for the first time in many years, and hearts are truly

transforming.

Remember we are in the year 2020, and 20 + 20 = 40.

Also 2020 is the year of the United States Census. Just as Jesus Christ, the savior of the world, was born during

a census.

Lastly, 2020 is perfect vision. May our sight focus on the Lord and living according to His perfect vision for us

knowing He holds us in the palm of His hand.

Mike Cohen, DD

In 1954, lobbying by the

Order of the Knights of

Columbus helped convince the

U.S. Congress to add the

phrase “under God” to the

Pledge of Allegiance.

President Dwight Eisenhower wrote to Supreme Knight, Luke E.

Hart, thanking the Knights for their “part in the movement to have

the words „under God‟ added to our Pledge of Allegiance.”

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America,

and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God,

indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father

Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service

of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son,

Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his

Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater

confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and

outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J.

McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession,

grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord.

Amen. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father
