In December 2011, the Court of Appeal released its omnibus decision on the new summary judgment rule. Join Co-Chairs Glenn Smith and Nadia Campion in welcoming The Honourable Justice Perell of the Superior Court of Justice for Ontario and Professor Trevor C. Farrow of Osgoode Hall Law School, who will address the Court of Appeal’s clarification of the purpose and scope of Ontario’s new summary judgment rules, the implications of the Court of Appeal’s decision and the need for lawyers to ensure that the cases they bring forward for summary judgment fall within the spirit and intent of Rule 20 as defined by the Court of Appeal.
Understanding the Court of Appeal’s approach to summary judgment is essential to effective and efficient litigation. Make sure you have a full-appreciation of the test and learn whether summary judgment is the right and most economical strategy for your client.
