    SUMMARY

The book of History from the People is a way of letting the reader knows more

about the local history, thats why they held up seminar-workshops for sixteen regions. The aim of their seminar-series has led to the discovery of impressive talents and

potentials from the various localities of the Philippines. It also seeks to highlight the

contributions of the regional and local sectors to the progressive development of

    national history.

It had its story about the past of Negros Occidental, they have their own belief that

the origin name of Region VI s the Visayan Region may have originated from the 8 th

century. Much has been said and written about the island of Negros as an island of the

profligate and ostentatious rich who used to flaunt their diamonds even at daytime-an

island of malnourished children and miserable squatters and the island of bitter-sweet

sugar. For the moment, suffice it to say that Negrenses for the past 00 years have provenresilient in coming out from the ashes of many crises.

Way back from the time of World War II Negros was also involved but because of

their multifaceted efforts and experiences of Negros under the leadership of the Negros

Resistance Movement they were able to survived from difficulties during the inhumanity

of Japanese occupation and many more. Their major source of inspiration which kept

alive the Negrense hopes for freedom were the secret American submarine landings in

Southern Negros, the growing number of US airplanes attacking in 1944 and the freedom

songs in the mountains which sustained the flagging spirits of Negrenses.

ANALYSISThis topic will help us understand more about the past so that we will be able to

relate it to the present for a better future to us all and help us realize that the stories

being told by these people coming from different regions make up the sum total of

Filipino History. Learning from this book tells me that the focus must not always be on

the Manila-centric perspective for it always build gaps and omissions with regard to local

history so as a citizen living in a local region I should have first the knowledge about the

    history in my area.

It is also a way of appreciating our ancestors and how they told about the

uniqueness of our local history and its culture. This is important to understand for us to

be able to teach and remind our fellow Filipinos of our ancient heritage for and also to

preserve the legacy of our national heritage for it is a paramount of where we came from

and also give us our true identity as a Filipinos. I would also say that it is helpful in a way

that we already have the insights about the history in our local region so we are able to

share about some of its history for the future generation and also a way of showing that

we also care not only in our national history but also on our own local history.
