Week beginning: 23rd April 2019

We were welcomed back after the Easter break to find some large foot prints in our classroom leading to the sand tray – who could they belong to?

Some children were brave enough to creep up to the sand tray and lift the lid. To our surprise, we found some large dinosaur bones! We used the brushes to dust off the sand and compared the different sizes. We then used cubes to measure the different sized bones.

Today we hopped on the dinosaur’s feet which had the numbers 1-10 on them. We hopped, saying each numeral we landed on, reached 10 and let our biggest and scariest ROAR!

We enjoyed lots of messy play in the dinosaur swamp. The dinosaurs enjoyed playing in the thick oozy mud. “Stomp, stomp, stomp!”

We used interlocking cubes to measure the length of different bones.

After discussing fossils and finding different sized bones, we used the wooden blocks to make our own fossils. It was a good opportunity to practise working in teams and sharing resources.

We re-enacted the story in our new role play area, the police station. We were on the hunt for Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len who attempted to steal the fine prize cow! We explored the role and responsibilities of a police officer and talked about doing the right thing and enduring the consequences of our actions.

We rolled the dice and counted out how many spots we needed to put on the ladybird. Some of the children were able to add the counters on each wing of the lady bird and tell us how many there were altogether.

We enjoyed making lots of silly soup this week as our literacy focus was on rhythm and rhyme. We started off making our silly rhyming soup inside and then we found some rhyming objects hiding in our sand tray and made some more during continuous provision. Silly Miss Huey kept putting in words that didn’t rhyme and we had to help here put in the rhyming ingredients such as tree, bee, three and key!

“We are making silly soup, We’re making soup that’s silly, When we cook it in the fridge,It makes it nice and chilly!
