Swim Lessons

LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAMThe Hanover Park Park District’s Learn To Swim Program offers swimming instruction for people of all ages and abilities. Several sessions of swim lessons are available throughout the summer. Rain dates are reserved for make-up classes due to inclement weather. The Learn To Swim Parent Manual is available at registra-tion, the first day of lessons and on the Park District website at www.hpparks.org. Participants 5 years & older will be tested the first day of class and placed in the Seahorse through Dolphins levels. Parents and other spectators are permitted to wait on the deck area under the Funbrellas or the Oasis concession area. Ad-vance registration is recommended to ensure choice of class times for the entire summer. Registration will not be accepted after the registration deadline to ensure low ratios, quality lessons and in-structor availability. The Park District reserves the right to combine class levels if deemed appropriate.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICYThe Hanover Park Park District’s swim lesson program includes out-of-water instruction and teaches safety awareness. If there are questionable air or water temperatures/conditions, classes may still be held out-of-water. Classes will be cancelled only in the case of severe weather. The decision to cancel class will be made before the start of each swim lesson. Because of the large number of par-ticipants and unpredictable summer weather, we cannot contact everyone in case of cancellation. See the Learn To Swim Parent Manual for cancellation procedures.

Bike Path and Trails Maintenance Policymother nature will be allowed to take her own course of action with re-spect to our park district bike paths and trails, located at community park, ahlstrand park, harbor park east-west, nautilus park and ranger park. in illinois there is no legal duty to clear paths or trails. but if an agency vol-untarily takes on the job, liability may be imposed if it is not done properly.

The park district risk management agency (pdrma) recommends that we limit path maintenance to a thorough season-ending inspection and docu-mentation of irregularities, that we fix any hazards and that we post signs conveying the message that users of the paths and trails do so at their own risk.

Northwest Special Recreation AssociationThe hanover park park district is a member of a cooperative agreement among 17 park districts which forms the northwest special recreation association (nwsra). The nwsra team of full-time Therapeutic recreation professionals and trained part-time staff offer safe, fun and high quality year-round recre-ation opportunities to individuals with disabilities of all ages and ability levels. for more information on nwsra, brochures may be picked up at the park dis-trict main office or at the nwsra office at park central, 3000 w. central road in rolling meadows. nwsra may be contacted at (847) 392-2848 (voice) 392-2855 (TTy) or 392-2870 (fax). check us out on the web at nwsra.org.
