You never know what you might learn at Pony Club — did you know that 20 Polish Zloty is worth £3.60 Sterling? Well, someone paid their entry fees at CFHS Open Team Show Jumping with a Polish 20 note — that’s how we found out. Despite that the event raised approximately £1,000 for CFHS Branch funds. Thank you to everyone who supported this event. Our Pony Club Branch stars in this newsletter are the members of CFHS Junior Committee - they organised a Dressage Competition in January, which raised £172, and a Car Treasure Hunt in April. Total Membership Fees received to Jan 2014 was £6,499 of which £3,193 was paid to PCHQ and only £3,306 remained in the Branch. Only 33% of Membership Renewal Forms did not need to be amended or completed by the Membership Secretary when they were received!! The Branch is now fined £5 for every Gift Aid Form sent to PCHQ which is rejected because it is incomplete — we have only received one fine to date! “Well I can currently say I had an amazing time at , it was definitely one of the most

memorable moments of my life so far! Coming from

a person that had never stayed away with her pony

before, never mind going to such a place like this! I

had a smile on my face from start to finish. The fun

packed weekend was worth every minute, all ponies

and horses behaving well in and out of the stables,

all facilities being fantastic - felt weird riding in such

a place. Hopefully CFHS will hold such an event eve-ry year! All instructors pushing us to our best, seeing

everyone happy made the whole weekend complete.

Would definitely recommend this weekend, as there is

something for everyone!! Thank you to everyone who

made this weekend possible!!” Tayla Purdham

On 16th April I went on a fell ride led by Marion Arter, with her daughter, Emily. It was a

lovely sunny day, perfect for a nice long ride. We set off at Low Close, Askam and went up

Askam Fell. There were great views of Ullswater and the fells. All three of the horses loved

the freedom to have a good gallop. It was great to be away from all the noise and distrac-

tions apart from another rider and a dog walker. We went for 3 hours and that was enough

to have a long ride. Jacko and the other horses had there ears pricked all the way even on

the short ride on the road. It was a shame when we had to turn for home. Breanne Kelso

Well done to the CFHS Members who competed in the

Area 2 Pony Club Quiz on 16th February. We had two

great teams: ; Nicolle Murray, Chloe Reed,

Amy & Holly Veitch and ; Jess Clark, Chloe

Hogg, Beth Walsh and Emily Watson.

Much researching and revising of ‘War Horses in History’,

‘Mountains, Rivers and Lakes in the UK’ took place in the

weeks before the competition along with plenty of choccy

biscuits to keep us going.

With the exception of Amy & Holly, who were off on their

hols straight after the competition, the team members all

travelled up to Longhorsley together. It was a quiet and

tense journey with last minute swotting taking place.

Both teams did CFHS proud on the day with team Saddles

finishing 7th and team Bridles in 4th, which for team train-

er Nicolle Murray was a personal best!

The journey home was much more relaxed with games of

‘eye spy’ and a stop for sweets and drinks.

As well as a great result, there were also a lot of

laughs and giggles and everyone had a good day.

Thank you to both teams, you did fantastic! Hope

to see you all back again next year!

CFHS Horse & Pony Care Area Teams 2014 Caitlin Fox

On 17th April two Junior teams and one Senior team made

their way up to Linnels, Hexham to compete in the Area 2

Horse & Pony Care competition. Junior team A consisted

of Sally Braithwaite and Amy & Holly Veitch and Junior

team B was made up by Emily Watson and Maddison &

Morgan Ellis. The questions ranged from naming eccen-

tric pieces of tack to correcting a badly tacked up pony

and the teams did very well to come 3rd and 6th out of

more than ten strong teams. South Northumberland PC

took the title for the third year running to go on to the

Championships this summer.

The Senior team made up by Ashleigh Neen, Caitlin Fox

and Tamar Miller spent the morning quickly brushing up

on their facts before putting in a strong effort to come 5th,

experiencing some very challenging AH test questions

which required a few Eureka! moments.

The teams thank Treena Lang for all the hard work she

put in to prepare members for the competition, especially

as it was Treena’s and a lot of the members’ first time in

this discipline. Also thank you to Val Braithwaite for her

support and for organising the teams.

In the Tivyside PC Postal Shoot, CFHS

Member Caitlin Mitchell shot 820, 840 &

900 in the under 15 shoot and received

two silver and a gold medal and was 4th

overall in her age group. Congratulations!

The CFHS Show Jumping Team

of Nina Smith & Prospero IV, Jilly

Francis & Medicinal Purpose,

Sophie Dodds & Be Touchable

and Emily Arter & Meikle Munroe

was placed 5th (out of 20 teams)

in the Pony Club Invitation Class

at the recent Bramham Interna-

tional Horse Trials. Well done

girls - and all looking very smart!

On 26th January Holly Veitch and I entered the CFHS Jun-

ior Committee Dressage Competition at Newton Rigg. We

entered the Musical Pairs class on our ponies Treacle and

Smudge. The music that we had to perform to was “Billy

Jean” by Michael Jackson. We made up our routine and

practiced it lots in the mud! On the day the weather was

horrendous and we all got soaked, but Morgan and Tayla’s

cupcakes helped us through the day! We were really nerv-

ous to go in the arena however, we did very well and didn’t

forget our routine. Although we came fourth we really en-

joyed the day! Madison Ellis
