Intentional Instruction in a Readers’ Workshop: Assuring High-Level Competencies For the Common Core, Grades K–8PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT HOURS: 24

Our annual four day Summer Literacy Institute will focus on the structures and rationales for readers’ workshop and examine how the use of whole-group mini-lessons, small-group instruction, independent reading, and the language of conferring all support the growth of readers while meeting the demands of the Common Core State Standards. We will cover topics such as how to establish routines for managing the classroom, engage students in writing about reading that maximizes the impact of Reader’s Notebooks, and select texts for a variety of purposes. With Irene Fountas, Author and Director, Lesley faculty, and key practitioners in the Center’s network.

“ “So much practical, easy to incorporate information that I can utilize in my classroom right away.Tracey Bowker, Second Grade TeacherHamilton-Wenham Regional School District, MA

Using the Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) Red System (grade 3), Gold System (grade 4), and Purple System (grade 5), this professional development training will provide you with an introduction to an effective literacy intervention system for struggling readers in the intermediate grades.
