Summer with MIRIAMSummer is meant to be fun and at Miriam we keep the fun in fundamentals. Our camps will enhance and improve skills through exciting, challenging, and entertaining activities.
Our redesigned summer 2015 programming offers options to meet all types of needs and schedules. Choose from full-day or half-day camps to keep your child active and involved in meaningful fun. We have also added before and after-care to meet the needs of working parents!
Our passionate and dedicated staff helps children with complex learning disabilities gain ground and grow their skills. Our programs are open to students ages 4 – 14 with average to above average IQ who have diagnoses including ADHD, sensory integration disorder, specific learning difficulties in reading, writing, or math, speech/language delays, high functioning autism, or motor delays.

To register for any of the summer programs please visit www.miriamstl.org to complete the registration form or call 314-968-3893.The summer admissions coordinator will contact you to discuss your goals for your child and the next steps.
Evaluations, IEPs, report cards, or standardized tests may be requested to help us place your child in the most appropriate camp and group. Campers new to the program will meet with the admissions coordinator prior to camp acceptance.
A $250 deposit per camp (non-refundable after April 30, 2015) is needed at the time of enrollment to secure your child’s place. Full payment is required by
May 1, 2015. Limited scholarships are available for all camps on a first come basis to those who qualify.
Half-Day Morning CampsMonday – Friday from 8:30 am – 11:30 am
ACADEMIC BOOTCAMP Session 1: June 8 – June 26, 2015 Session 2: June 29 – July 17, 2015 (Closed July 3) $1,500 per session Student skills will be expanded this summer through an intensive half-day academic bootcamp that provides reading, writing, math, and learning strategies in small groups, with 30 minutes a day of 1:1 tutoring. A customized learning program that may include SPIRE reading, REWARDS reading, Lexia, Reciprocal Reading, Edmark Reading Program, 6 Traits Writing strategies, TouchMath, or interactive notebooks will be created for each student. Campers must benefit from a 4:1 ratio and groups will be led by a special education certified teacher. Children may bring their own lunch and stay over only if they are also enrolled in an afternoon session.
Half-Day Afternoon CampsMondays – Fridays from 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm
SOCIAL SKILLS CAMPSUsing Michelle Garcia Winner’s “Think Social,” “Superflex,” and “Thinking About You Thinking About Me” curriculum, children get a better understanding of social interactions with peers. Each camp incorporates sensory integration time, direct instruction, and reinforcement of concepts through play-based activities and social stories. Children will be placed in small groups based on age and skill level and must benefit from a 5:1 ratio.
Session 1: Super Social Heroes June 8 – June 26, 2015 | $1,000Superflex takes on Rock Brain and the Team of Unthinkables! Children will identify Unthinkables who have invaded their brains and make social thinking rigid and difficult. Children will learn to become super flexible social thinkers! Session 2: Confident Kids June 29 – July 17, 2015 (Closed July 3) | $1,000 Compassion, Cooperation, and Collaboration (the three Cs) are the basis for good friendships. Children will learn different ways to implement the three Cs to make new friends. Instruction helps children work on seeing another’s perspectives as a cooperative and flexible team member. Campers will also work on self-regulation skills during fun group activities.
ALL 4 SPORTS AND SPORTS 4 ALL Session 1: June 8 – June 26, 2015Session 2: June 29 – July 17, 2015 (no camp on July 3)$400 per session Non-competitive sports camp is perfect for the camper who wants to try sports but does not like the competitive nature of traditional teams. Campers will learn to play hockey, soccer, basketball, dodge ball, and many other sports over each three week camp. Camp will also include daily scrimmages and all activities will be held in an air conditioned gym. Campers must benefit from a 10:1 ratio.
Full-Day CampsMonday – Friday from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm
Reading, writing, and math are embedded in thematic hands-on projects, plus students will receive 30 minutes each day of group sensory diet. Children must benefit from a 10:2 ratio and will be divided into groups according to their ages and skills. Campers bring their lunch each day and a snack will be provided.
Session 1: Invention & Beyond June 8 – June 26, 2015$1,000Campers will learn about the history of robots and their value both today and in the future. Using Lego products, K’Nex, recycled materials, and other building medium,
campers will create robots from their imagination using collaboration and critical thinking. Campers will learn to
problem solve, use trial and error, follow instructions, and work together as a team to bring their robot to life!
Session 2: Imagination in Motion June 29 - July 17, 2015 (Closed July 3)$1,000Students will plan, script, stage, shoot, and produce their own mini-movie or play. Campers will bring literary characters to life through creativity, motion, and the arts! Small group teams will research, design, and build their own sets and characters. Campers will impress their family and friends by holding a viewing party on the last day of camp!
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY CAMPSCampers receive occupational therapy in a small group setting to work on skills with similarly aged peers. The camp atmosphere provides motor skill development in a fun and social environment. Students must benefit from a 5:1 ratio.
Session 1: Fine Motor, Typing, and Handwriting June 8 – June 26, 2015 | $1,000Children will receive daily handwriting (printing or cursive) and typing instruction. Typing programs are individualized and self-directed with a computerized program. Hand muscles and other fine motor skills will be addressed to optimize progress. Curriculum is adjusted based upon the age of the child and his/her goals. Sensory breaks are incorporated to help maintain focus.Session 2: Gross Motor & Sensory Integration June 29 – July 17, 2015 (Closed July 3) | $1,000This program focuses on improving gross motor skills such as ball skills, jumping rope, skipping, and core strengthening. It also helps children learn to regulate their body by identifying sensory issues and trying different interventions through a sensory diet. Children are grouped based upon skill level and age to ensure a fun experience.
CREATIVE COOKINGWorking both in and out of the kitchen, adapted cooking camps are perfect for children who love to chop, mix, bake, and create tasty foods. Campers will find new recipes and take home food creations daily. Children must be able to benefit from an 8:1 ratio.
Session 1: International Cuisine June 8 – June 26, 2015 | $600Tempt your palate with exotic cuisine from Europe, Asia, Africa, and other continents. Students will research different foods and cook fabulous savory and sweet recipes that are sure to amaze.Session 2: All-American Cooking June 29 – July 17, 2015 (Closed July 3) | $600America is known for many tasty and native dishes. Learn about and cook our country’s delicacies and impress your family and friends with your cooking talents.
