W CE L O M EThe Parks and Recreation Department consists of a total of four service areas: the park maintenance division, building maintenance division, recreation and athletics. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of Pharr resi-dents through innovative recreational facilities and programs.

The department currently provides facilities such as walking trails, playgrounds, barbecue areas, a youth skate park, outdoor basketball courts, youth baseball and soccer fields, dance and entertainment venues. The youth recreation activities include dance, cheerleading, guitar, and karate lessons.

REGISTRATION & PROGRAM INFORMATIONRegistration for Summer Recreation Programs will be held from May 4th through May 29th. Summer Program classes will be held tentatively from June 1st through July 23rd. Youth partici-pants will participate in the 2015 Summer Recreation Program Recital scheduled on Wednesday, July 29th, 2015 at the Pharr Events Center. The Pharr Parks and Recreation Department offices are located on 1011 W. Kelly, and our office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at (956) 402-4550.

REFUND & TRANSFERS POLICYThe City of Pharr Parks and Recreation Department constantly strives to provide you with the highest quality recreation programs. If, for any reason you are not completely satisfied with a class or activity, please inform us so we can respond to your concerns. In addition to using your feedback to help us improve, for nearly all of our programs, we will arrange one of the following:Transfers between classes will be allowed only prior to the third class meeting at no charge. After the third class meeting, transfers may be made pending space availability, with a $5 charge per class.

Refunds for classes will be allowed only prior to the third class meeting and will carry a $5 fee per class. Request for transfers and refunds must be in writing. The Pharr Parks and Recreation Department retains the privilege of canceling any scheduled activity that fails to generate the minimum interest.

Summer Program classes will be held tentatively from June 1st through July 23rd. Youth partici-pants will participate in the 2015 Summer Recreation Program Recital scheduled on Wednesday, July 29th, 2015 at the Pharr Events Center. The Pharr Parks and Recreation Department offices are located on 1011 W. Kelly, and our office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. REFUND & TRANSFERS POLICYThe City of Pharr Parks and Recreation Department constantly strives to provide you with the highest quality recreation programs. If, for any reason you are not completely satisfied with a class or activity, please inform us so we can respond to your concerns. In addition to using your feedback to help us improve, for nearly all of our programs, we will arrange one of the following:Transfers between classes will be allowed only prior to the third class meeting at no charge. After the third class meeting, transfers may be made pending space availability, with a $5 charge per class.

Refunds for classes will be allowed only prior to the third class meeting and will carry a $5 fee per class. Request for transfers and refunds must be in writing. The Pharr Parks and Recreation Department retains the privilege of canceling any scheduled activity that fails to generate the minimum interest.

INTERESTED IN BEING A YOUTH ATH-LETIC COACH?The City of Pharr Police Athletic League is proud to announce that it will host a Volun-teer Coach Training Clinic for area coaches. These Clinics are being offered locally through the National Youth Sports Coaches Association, which has helped train over 1.8 million volunteer coaches world-wide.

NYSCA’s training program educates coaches in areas such as the psychology of coaching children in sports, safety, first aid, maximiz-ing athletic performance, legal liability, the coach as a role model, how to organize a fun and interesting practice, tips on coaching the proper techniques of the sport, and how to help keep children away from drugs, alcohol and tobacco, as well as other important topics.

To complete the program, coaches must pass a written exam based on the material presented and sign a NYSCA’s Coaches Code of Ethics Pledge, which increases the importance of placing the emotional physical well-being of players ahead of any personal desire to win.
